A Democratic Senator will have the best edge over Trump in the General Election.

A huge factor in the presidential campaign will be the shocking Republican corruption currently being exposed in the Senate impeachment trial, specifically Trump's obvious guilt and the Republican senators' extraordinarily unconscionable efforts to deny and conceal it, particularly their determination to suppress the testimony of witnesses.

And the Democratic candidate best suited to exploit that will be someone who was there to witness it first-hand, fought against it, and can testify to the public about every moment of it.

Based purely upon that criterion, that leaves, listed in alphabetical order by last name:

Senator Michael Bennet from Colorado
Senator Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota
Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont
Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts

My choice will come from that list.

A One-Minute Summary of Trump's Defense

A message for Joe Biden from his father's ghost:

"Joe, please stop quoting the rest of your family and start making up your own witty sayings."

(Not undecided, just undisclosed.)

"all persons are commanded to keep silent, on pain of imprisonment..."

"all persons are commanded to keep silent, on pain of imprisonment, while the House of Representatives is exhibiting to the Senate of the United States articles of impeachment."

Is this just an insincere threat of something that everyone knows will never happen, or is there a real possibility that Senators could go to jail? If they could go to jail then when would they go? If not during the trial then that would mean they could stay and continue what they're doing. But if during the trial, it doesn't seem like this could happen without destroying any semblance of integrity that the trial might have.

What do you think?

Republicans must acquit Trump before any more truth leaks out!

Column: Republican senators must acquit Trump in impeachment trial before any more truth leaks out by Rex Huppke

As a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, I demand that Republican senators in charge of the upcoming impeachment trial swiftly acquit the commander in chief before any more truth leaks out...

The last thing we need is to see a great president, who we Trump supporters have built up to be an avatar of American strength and decency, get knocked down by stupid things like facts...

I wonder to what extent Poe's Law will apply to this Chicago Tribune article.

"Liberal" - A strange thing happened to that word.

Long ago, there was a noble word, “liberal,” which derives from the word “free.” Now a strange thing happened to that word. A man named Hitler made it a term of abuse, a matter of suspicion, because those who were not with him were against him, and liberals had no use for Hitler. And then another man named McCarthy cast the same opprobrium on the word. Indeed, there was a time — a short but dismaying time — when many Americans began to distrust the word which derived from “free.” One thing we must all do. We must cherish and honor the word “free” or it will cease to apply to us. And that would be an inconceivable situation. This I know. This I believe with all my heart. If we want a free and a peaceful world, if we want to make the deserts bloom and man grow to greater dignity as a human being — WE CAN DO IT! - Eleanor Roosevelt

John Roberts warns not take democracy for granted.

How John Roberts thinks about democracy

A statement from the Chief Justice of the United States about not taking democracy for granted would normally seem like an anodyne exhortation. But coming from the author of Shelby County v. Holder (2013), the Court’s 5-4 decision striking down much of the Voting Rights Act, it might raise an eyebrow.

When I read that I immediately thought of Rachel Maddow's saying, "Don't watch what they say, watch what they do."
