mom gets child abuse accusations after sharing sleeping arrangements online

http://www.wanderingtheworldbelow.com/adventures/2015/10/3/havoc-at-home-everything-you-ever-wanted-or-didnt-want-to-know-about-the-family-bed

Here’s what happened when a family of 7 started sleeping in the same bed

For Elizabeth and Tom Boyce, the struggle to get some shut-eye each night night can be a battle.

Their challenge: a clan of five, rambunctious kids — ages 1 to 11 — dealing with nightmares, shifting beds, bathroom breaks, anxiety and nursing needs, not to mention Tom’s disability issues that require care.

By the time morning rolls around, Boyce writes on her blog, the couple’s bedroom ends up “covered in palettes full of sleeping children. It got old.”

Their solution: A giant slumber party of sorts, with the entire family co-sleeping in the same bed.

Not just any bed, but a nocturnal mattress fort that the family created using two child-size beds from IKEA in the master bedroom.

Jared Fogle pays out $1 million to 10 victims

disgraced former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle has paid out a total of $1 million to 10 of his victims.

Fogle pleaded guilty in August to federal charges of child pornography and having sex with minors. As part of that plea he agreed to pay $1.4 million in restitution to his victims.

Checks for $100,000 have now been delivered to three of those victims who are now adults, as well as to the parents of seven other victims who are still minors, according to Timothy Horty, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney in Indianapolis.

Four more victims will receive their payments pending some administrative details, Horty said, but Fogle has already put those funds into a trust account.

Marty Ingels, a raspy-voiced comedian, actor and talent agent who was married to singer and actress Shirley Jones for nearly 40 years, died Wednesday in Los Angeles. He was 79.

Ingels died in the Tarzana neighborhood following complications from a stroke, according to a statement issued on behalf of Jones by her manager, Milt Suchin.

Trey Gowdy Just Elected Hillary Clinton President

Thursday's asinine Benghazi hearing solved every major one of candidate Clinton’s strategic problems

With Thursday's interminable, pointless, haranguing, disorganized, utterly amateurish attempt at a smear job, the Republicans and their tenth-rate congressional attack schnauzer, South Carolina's Trey Gowdy, got people feeling sorry for Hillary Clinton. Over the course of 11 long hours, they made the most eloquent argument for a Hillary Clinton presidency yet offered by anyone, including Clinton herself.

Hillary's detractors, and I've been one of them, have long complained that she is a politician without firm principles. She, her husband and the other Third Way types who've dominated the modern Democratic Party specialize in a kind of transactional politics, in which issues are endlessly parsed to maintain a balance between fundraising interests and populist concerns. It's a strategy that wins elections, but doesn't get the heart racing much.

But there is one overriding principle that does animate and define the Clinton campaign, and that's keeping Republicans out of office. For years, this has been the Democratic Party's stock answer for every sordid legislative compromise, every shameless capitulation to expediency, every insulting line of two-faced stump rhetoric offered to get over: We have to do this to beat the Republicans.

I never bought that argument, for a lot of reasons, but Trey Gowdy made it look pretty good Thursday. Those idiots represent everything that is wrong not just with the Republican Party, but with modern politics in general. It's hard to imagine a political compromise that wouldn't be justified if its true aim would be to keep people like those jackasses out of power.

Norwegians Use The Word “Texas” As Slang To Mean “Crazy”

We saw the screen capture from Tumblr float around social media this weekend and were initially skeptical. But, lo and behold, the evidence has convinced us that this is really an accepted part of Norwegian slang.

Here is an article from Aviso Nordland from March 2014 about reckless international truck drivers traveling through the northern part of the country. Norwegian police chief Knut Danielsen, when describing the situation, tells the paper that “it is absolutely texas.”

Here’s one from a 2012 edition of Verdens Gang, a Norwegian tabloid, in which Blackburn Rovers soccer manager Henning Berg—a Norwegian former star who played for the British team—describes the atmosphere at a match between the Rovers and the rival Burnley Clarets as “totally texas.”

And here’s a fisherman telling the local news about the rare swordfish he caught in Northern Norway: “I heard a loud noise from the bay, but I did not know where it came from right away. Thirty seconds to a minute later it jumped out in the fjord. I got to see some of it before I took up the camera,” he says and continues: “It was totally texas!”

Usually, when the word “texas”—as an adjective, most often without capitalization—appears in Norwegian, the context involves the phrase, “det var helt texas,” which translates to, roughly, “it was totally/absolutely/completely bonkers.” You wouldn’t call a person “totally texas”—it usually describes a chaotic atmosphere.

Ads for Period Underwear Might Be Too Lewd for the NYC Subway

The ads that plaster New York City’s subway system have shown women in the throes of passion, showing off most of their breasts, and wearing just a skimpy bikini—or nothing at all. Can’t they show a woman in a full shirt and modest underwear?

Not if the ad includes the word period. THINX, a recently launched company that makes underwear built to absorb period blood, has been trying to launch a subway ad campaign for the past month. Late last week, Outfront Media, the company that sells the subway’s ad space, sent back THINX’s designs, which feature women in nonsexualized poses sporting full-coverage underwear, tank tops, and turtlenecks.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has neither approved nor rejected the ads yet, but Outfront Media has expressed concern about the ads’ content. In an email on Monday, an Outfront representative told THINX CEO Miki Agrawal that the ads with models “seem to have a bit too much skin.” And the ones depicting a peeled half-grapefruit or an egg out of its shell? “Regardless of the context,” Outfront wrote, they “[seem] inappropriate.” Whole grapefruits, it seems, can be employed as sexual innuendo, as they were in this subway ad for breast augmentation. Just don’t slice those grapefruits in half!

agrawal told me she suspects that the double standard might have something to do with the fact that all of Outfront’s sales representatives and five of seven members of its leadership team are men. She says an Outfront rep told THINX’s marketing director that a silhouette of women’s underwear would be better than putting the underwear on models. When she protested what she perceived as Outfront’s hypocrisy, he told her not to make it a “women’s issue.”

--!!!

Most of the many ads that have plastered women in various states of undress on subway walls have been designed from the perspective of how others (read: heterosexual men) see women. The THINX ads address how women see and take care of themselves. “You don’t want to talk about how women’s bodies actually work, but you want to doctor the way a woman feels about her body?” asked Agrawal, comparing THINX’s designs to the breast-augmentation ads.

Daycare closes for the night leaving baby inside. Mistaken for a doll.

A Chicago father went to go pickup his 1-year-old daughter at daycare on Monday. But instead, he found a locked building with all the lights shut off and his little girl crying alone inside.

This is one of those situations that fits into the category of every parent's worst nightmare. You come to pick up your baby, and there's no one around and you don't know what happened to your child.

“I was ringing the bell and no one came to the door, so I called the number and no one answered the phone, so I called again like two more times and I was like, so I kicked the door like two times, then I heard my baby screaming in the background,” Jones said

------------------------

The baby, one-year-old Journee, was found crawling around in the back room of the daycare.

“I was glad that she was OK, but I was like real mad, I was mad because how could you leave a baby in a daycare, how could a child go unaccounted for,” Jones said.

However, she told the baby's mother that when workers checked the daycare, they thought her daughter was a doll.---

University of Mississippi fraternity members smile in mugshots after brutal beating charges

The Daily Mississippian, the university's student newspaper, reported on Wednesday that the five Pi Kappa Alpha members have been arrested and charged in the Oct. 6 assault of Sigma Pi member Jeremy Boyle at that fraternity's house.

Boyle heard a disturbance in the house's backyard and went outside to investigate when he was attacked, the Clarion-Ledger reported.

Boyle suffered a ruptured eardrum, lung contusion and concussion along with several broken teeth during the attack, according to the Mississippian.
"They descended upon him and beat him unmercifully. Beat him within an inch of his life," the student's grandfather Robert Boyle told an NBC affiliate.
