Alabama judge forced defendants with court debt to give blood or go to jail

ncident illustrates shocking disregard for poor people overloaded with court debt, unable to pay.

The SPLC filed a judicial ethics complaint against an Alabama judge who forced people unable to pay court fines and fees to give blood or face jail time.

Perry County Circuit Judge Marvin Wiggins threatened defendants in his court with jail on Sept. 17, noting that the sheriff “had enough handcuffs” for those unable to pay and unwilling to donate blood, according to the complaint filed Monday with the Judicial Inquiry Commission of Alabama.

“People who couldn’t pay their court debt with cash literally paid with their blood,” said Sara Zampierin, SPLC staff attorney. “This is a shocking disregard for not only judicial ethics but for the constitutional rights of defendants.”

Is it time to concede that Trump is likely to win the GOP nomination?

What's more, his lead has actually been much more stable this year than Mitt Romney's was in the latter half of 2011. Trump has led consistently for more than three months. In the last six months of 2011, Romney led for only a week or two at a time.

Woman shares over 1,000 shocking messages from perverted men

ver since a Los Angeles musician joined the online world over 10 years ago, she has endured online abuse — mainly from sick-minded men attacking her with their violent, sexual and racist words.

Mia Matsumiya took screen shots of the disturbing messages, going back to the days when she had a My Space page, and now the professional violinist is sharing them on an Instagram account titled Perv Magnet.
hile most any women with an online personality has faced online sexism and hate, the collection of all the messages together is shocking, harrowing, depressing. The men share perverted fantasies, attack her looks, and cluelessly assume that she'd want to engage with them in bizarre sexual acts.

Now, Matsumiya is turning the tables and exposing the foolishness of these strange men. She hopes Perv Magnet will create a space where women who've been abused online can commiserate. She also intends to shed light on this offensive online culture that degrades women and start a discussion around how to stop it.

Cop knocks on homeowner's door. 40 pound dog runs out. 3 immediate shots to the head

http://fox2now.com/2015/10/20/graphic-video-shows-florida-officer-knock-on-door-shoot-dog-3-times/

FLORIDA CITY, Fla. — A family claims surveillance video shows the graphic, fatal shooting of their beloved pet by a police officer.

Gillian Palacios, the dog’s owner, said her dog Duchess ran out of the front door when an officer knocked on it.

Palacios said the two-year-old, 40-pound bull terrier mix ran outside and was fatally shot three times in the head by the officer.

Editor’s note: The video below contains graphic content that some viewers may find disturbing.

The officer reportedly knocked on the door to let the family know their car door was open. Palacios can be seen opening the door and the dog runs outside.

“Before I could even do anything, the officer had his gun out and shot her three times in the head,” she said.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave as officials investigate.

“There were a million things he could have done other that shoot her three times in the head,” Palacios said in an interview with WPLG.

“She was curious. She wasn’t barking (and) she wasn’t growling,” Palacios said in the video interview. “There was no reason for him to think she was aggressive in any way.”

Hungarian camerawoman caught kicking migrants sues man she tripped, Facebook

ht

laszlolo said she is suing the social network for allegedly deleting groups that supported her, but keeping pages threatening her online. She said she complained to Facebook but got no action.

Petra Laszlo was filmed tripping a Syrian refugee carrying his child. She plans on suing the immigrant now, for changing his testimony during her trial.
One of the groups is the "Petra Laszlo Shame Wall," which currently has more than 10,000 likes on Facebook.

She also wants to sue the Syrian refugee she tripped, who was carrying a child. The migrant was identified as Osama Abdul Mohsen, a Syrian soccer coach who was welcomed into Spain to rebuild his career, The Guardian reported.

She blamed the refugee for changing his testimony in her trial. "My husband wants to prove my innocence. For him, it is now a matter of honor," she said.

SF's Kozy Kar bar under fire for sign with joke about date rape

https://cdn2.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/tdEI8C1V0TH2cLZF45fZ92_A7yo=/0x718:2448x2554/1200x900/cdn0.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/47476848/kozy_kar_sign2.0.0.jpg

After receiving a note from a reader, SFEater reported that the bar is currently advertising "B—in' Box Wine" with a sign containing text the tipster calls "misogynistic bulls—."

"One sip brings back memories of beach parties, camaros, Eddie Money, feathered hair, and date rape," the sign reads. "It's like high school all over again...but better."

The person who sent in the photo wrote that when they asked the bartender about the sign, he "quickly dismissed our concerns, saying, 'I'm not the owner; I can't take the sign down.'"

It would seem that with the never-ending feed of activists decrying rape culture (like here, here, and here, for example), public-facing businesses might think twice about making light of what many call a serious issue.
