Incredible photo shows a weasel riding a woodpecker

http://www.sfgate.com/news/strange-weird/article/Incredible-photo-shows-a-weasel-riding-a-6112140.php

Run for your lives: The mighty weaselpecker has arrived

Amateur photographer Martin Le-May captured this incredible photo of a weasel riding on the back of a green woodpecker in London.

This is no case of a cute interspecies friendship. That weasel is trying to kill the bird. Le-May told the BBC he heard a “distressed squawking noise” and spotted the midair battle. The woodpecker escaped after a hard landing, and the weasel ran off.

Experts said they believe the photo is real. “Weasels are fearless,” wildlife expert Lucy Cooke told the news channel. She said the vicious mammals often attack rabbits much bigger than themselves, and it’s not shocking a weasel would go after a bird if given the chance.

61 year old man walks 35 miles one way to work as janitor to support sick wife. $9.07/hr

DAVIS CITY, Ia. – Steve Simoff's daily commute to and from work can be more than a full-time job.

His route stretches 35 miles from this "deader-than-a-doornail" small town near the Missouri border all the way north to Lakeside Casino in Osceola.
And Simoff, 61, often hoofs it to work. That's right, he walks along Interstate Highway 35, the lone figure striding along the shoulder of the road, dwarfed by semitrailer trucks that whoosh by at 70 miles per hour.
He doesn't clock in until 11 p.m. for his overnight shift as a janitor. But to give himself time to get there on foot, he bounds out of the front door of his basement apartment at 3:30 p.m.

On those days, his 2002 Ford Windstar minivan with 105,000 miles on its odometer stays parked in the driveway. The Simoffs haven't always had a car. But even now that they do, gas money is tight

Her disability — Renee's Supplemental Security Income checks add a little cushion to Simoff's $9.07-per-hour job — prodded Simoff to walk to work on a more regular basis.

------
Lately, Simoff has been hitching a ride most of the way home with a co-worker who lives in Leon, leaving him a morning jaunt of barely more than eight miles.

actress tells minorities to stop stealing white super hero roles

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/01/michelle-rodriguez-superhero-movies_n_6778732.html

When TMZ asked Rodriguez on Friday if she was "going to be the Green Lantern," the actress responded, "That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Because of this whole 'minorities in Hollywood' thing ... It's so stupid. Stop stealing all the white people's superheroes. Make up your own."

The 36-year-old took to Facebook on Saturday to clarify the meaning behind her statements. In the video, Rodriguez first apologizes to those offended.

"I want to clarify about my comment yesterday. I stuck my foot in my mouth once again, and I said that people should stop trying to steal white people superheroes," she said. "I guess it got taken out of context because a lot of people got offended ... but I have a tendency to speak without a filter, so sorry about that."

The "Furious 7" star continued on to say that she wants to see more minority writers and producers create their own original characters for minorities.

What I really meant was, ultimately at the end of the day there's a language. And the language that you speak in Hollywood is successful franchise. And I think that there are many cultures in Hollywood that are not white that can come up with their own mythology ... I'm just saying that instead of trying to turn a girl character into a guy or instead of trying to turn a white character into a black character or Latin character, I think that people should stop being lazy, and that people should actually make an effort in Hollywood to develop their own mythology.
