white Virginia state trooper who kneeled down to help a stranded young black man change a flat tire, and then stayed by his side all night until help arrived, has become a hero in the eyes of his grateful mother.

"This kind officer approached him didn't ask if the little Mercedes was stolen but rather got on his knees to replace his tire," mom Nada Owusu wrote in a Facebook post that has gone viral.

Owusu's 20-year-old undergraduate son Joseph Owusu was driving home to Danville from Virginia Tech last Thursday when his back tire blew on the road "in the middle of nowhere," she said.

That's when Virginia State Trooper Matt Okes stepped in to try to fix the flat.

When he couldn't, the law enforcement officer kept the student company on the dark road for over four hours until his mother and AAA arrived at 1 a.m.

Berkeley high academy students called "trash collectors of tomorrow" in racist year book prank

Berkeley High School officials plan to fix an racially offensive message created as a prank in its yearbooks, according to a local news report.

The school requested the yearbooks back after a description in the book referred to “trash collators [sic] of tomorrow” instead of “innovators of tomorrow” when describing one of the academies — which is predominantly made up of Latino and Black students — at the campus, reported KPIX.

“The Academy of Medicine and Public Service is a small learning community focus [sic] on medicine, making our future doctors, dentists, nurses, physicians, fire chiefs and trash collators [sic] of tomorrow,” the yearbook said.

District officials told the station the wording was a prank and that they are investigating the incident.

Students said that the message was incredibly offensive. “I feel like the garbage collector was in a way trying to attack colored people,” one student told

But among the social conservatives who are a powerful force within the Republican Party, there is a far darker view. To them, the widespread acceptance of Jenner’s evolution from an Olympic gold medalist whose masculinity was enshrined on a Wheaties box to a shapely woman posing suggestively on the cover of Vanity Fair was a reminder that they are losing the culture wars.

Across social media, blogs and talk radio this week, conservatives painted an apocalyptic view of America. They said they felt frustrated and increasingly isolated by the country’s sudden recognition and even embrace of transgender people. They see it as immoral and foreign. They drew comparisons to two grimly futuristic novels, George Orwell’s “1984” and Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World.”


“People feel like they’re under siege and that the terms of the debate are now you either applaud it or you’re a bigot,” said William J. Bennett, education secretary in the Reagan administration. “It’s like American culture is being dragged kicking and screaming not only toward acceptance but approval.”

Jenner’s watershed moment — which coincides with the Supreme Court preparing to rule on whether to allow same-sex marriage nationwide — leaves the GOP and its stable of presidential candidates grappling with how to represent conservatives who don’t wish to accept Jenner and more moderate voters who have already done so.

It's not your imagination. Those claw machines are rigged. But they're rigged in a surprisingly clever way — and not the way most people suspect.
The claw is programmed to grab tightly only part of the time
Some people think the claw machine is so hard to win because the stuffed animals are packed so tightly together. But the bigger reason is more insidious than that: the claw machine is programmed to have a strong grip only part of the time.

A lesson from the Duggars: 19 kids is too many


The Duggars’ television show is called 19 Kids and Counting, which isn’t really accurate: At some point, James and Michelle Duggar badly lost count of their kids.

My friends with a mere one or two kids do a heroic job of keeping them healthy and happy, raising the people who will soon take over our world: Telling them the names of things. Answering questions. Teaching them right from wrong.


No one can do a good job of that with 19 kids.

Indian villagers lower makeshift ladder to help leopard get out of well

Villagers stage dramatic rescue after using just a net and ladder after a LEOPARD gets stuck down a well in India
The leopard was believed to have fallen into the well when it was dark
Villagers and forest officials lowered a makeshift ladder into the pit
After some encouragement the leopard left its post and climbed out
It was later checked for injury before being released back to the forest


A leopard was rescued by a group of villagers after it fell down and got stuck in a well in India.
Awesome World reported on their YouTube channel that locals to the area and forest officials helped with the rescue of the animal that was estimated to be around two-to-three-years-old.
The leopard was believed to have mistakenly jumped into the well in the dark and had spent some part-submerged in the water.
