Florida cop sits down on curb and shares meal w homeless man because "nobody wants to eat alone"

A Florida cop’s impromptu breakfast date with a homeless man has gone viral.

Ocala Sgt. Erica Hays bought a Dunkin Donuts sandwich and a cup of coffee for a hungry homeless man — and then plopped down next to him on the curb to eat alongside him.

Photos of the touching meal, snapped by a driver stopped at a red light, have been shared thousands of times on Facebook.

Hay, a 20-year police veteran, said she had just finished a morning meeting at police headquarters and ran to Dunkin Donuts for breakfast. On her way, she saw the man sitting on a curb next to a gas station.

Donald Trump’s surge is all about less-educated Americans

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2015/07/27/donald-trumps-surge-is-heavily-reliant-on-less-educated-americans-heres-why/

It seems that education really matters here. Even when pollsters took race out of the equation -- to the extent that that is possible since the Republican base is overwhelmingly white -- and looked at all Republicans, the relationship between education and Trump support was pretty clear.

Witness the following:

So, what's going on here?

Economic worries as well as anxiety about a shifting cultural landscape have long been hard to separate from this. American immigration policy has even been directly shaped by these forces. And people who face the most direct competition with immigrants for jobs or see large numbers of immigrant workers entering or working in their fields have repeatedly fueled or responded to political movements in the United States that center around concern, fear and or loathing of immigrants.

Woman Calls Police to Report Assault, Cop Shows Up, Holds Her for 7 Hours as He Demands Sex Acts

Source: alternet

— A Portland police officer, Jeromie Palaoro, who has a history of misconduct, is on paid vacation, pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.

Roni Reid-James was in Portland earlier this month on a trip to visit her boyfriend. Reid-James called the police after she said her boyfriend attacked her at her mother’s house.

Palaoro was one of the officers who showed up to the call on July 4, to investigate the alleged assault by the boyfriend.

According to Reid-James, on July 5 at 3:30 am, Palaoro came to her hotel room, wearing street clothes, but still carrying a gun, to “talk to her about the alleged assault.”

When he came into her room, Reid-James says Palaoro pulled out the gun and set it on the table. He then took off all of his clothes and demanded that she perform sexual acts on him.

According to Reid-James, this sexual assault lasted for 7-hours.

Michael Medved fighting stage 3 throat cancer

A few days ago, used his chemo healed throat to reaffirm his opinion that he understands why the cops would focus on blacks, stop blacks more often. Ugh

I wish him well but wish he wasnt such a hater

______
After four months of almost daily radiation and weekly chemotherapy treatments, he is cancer-free and — as of April 21 — back on the air. His show is based in Seattle and reaches almost 5 million listeners a week.

On Medved’s first day back, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush came in — the only Seattle media he did before a fundraiser that night. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal called in to wish Medved well. So did Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan. (“Paul went on for a while. He is one of the nicest people in politics.”)

All have a stake in the GOP’s showing in the upcoming presidential election — and are surely relieved to have Medved back on the air.

“I worked my whole life to be part of the national conversation,” he said. “And at the start of an election?”

There are those who are sorry to see him return to the airwaves — and told him so. One commenter said, “I wish the cancer had killed you,” a line Medved mentioned more than once as I drove him home from the station the other day.

female sex worker grabbed gun of client, killed possible serial killer, "kill kit" found in his car

The woman, whose identity hasn't been released, told investigators Falls drew a gun and tried to strangle her. She said she grabbed Falls' gun when he set it down to overpower her and shot him.

Police said they found what they described as a "kill kit" in the trunk of Falls' car, including handcuffs, knives, axes, a sledgehammer, a bulletproof vest, another gun, shovels and bleach and other cleaning supplies.

"BASED ON THE ITEMS THIS MAN HAD IN HIS POSSESSION, IT'S HARD TO IMAGINE THIS WAS ONLY GOING TO BE A ONE-TIME EVENT FOR HIM."
Lt. Steve Cooper, chief of detectives for the Charleston police, told NBC station WSAZ of Charleston that authorities issued a national alert because "based on the items this man had in his possession, it's hard to imagine this was only going to be a one-time event for him."

Authorities said Falls lived in Henderson, Nevada, near Las Vegas, about a decade ago, during the same period that three local women whom police described as prostitutes were killed and found dismembered and one other disappeared.

Trump may be liberal as they say, I won’t argue that, but for now, he’s useful.

Christie is perilously close to being knocked out of first debate

— As Gov. Chris Christie tours the country courting voters for his presidential bid, he refuses to talk about Republican opponent Donald Trump.

But how much longer can Christie — or any other contender — ignore the billionaire businessman?

As Christie, who is perilously close to being knocked off the main stage of the GOP first's presidential debate next month, concluded his two-day tour of Iowa on Saturday, Trump rode in and stole the show — and most of media covering Christie's mid-day event.

_____
The audience dwarfed the 100-200 people who have been attending Christie's town hall events in the early voting states of Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire.

------
At one time (I considered him) because he seemed to be honest and a straight shooter," McKeag said. "But I don't think Donald Trump can be shaken. I don't know about Christie."

McKeag's sentiment could be costly for Christie, who's built a campaign platform around "telling it like it is."

Nearly 9 in 10 students drop out of unaccredited law schools in California

Source: latimes

To Omar Medina, a security officer working the graveyard shift, attending Northwestern California University School of Law seemed like the ideal way to fulfill his dream of becoming a lawyer.

Unlike traditional law schools with high tuitions and entrance requirements, Northwestern California offered Medina a chance to take online courses while working full-time and helping raise his toddler son.

Medina enrolled in the unaccredited school. He said he paid about $3,000 a year in tuition.

But almost from the start, the Marine Corps veteran struggled. He said he frequently asked for help, but got little. Less than two years later, he gave up.

90% of "Teacup" pigs getting abandoned across America (because they get huge)

LOS ANGELES -- Eva Monroy bought a mini pig for her family and fed it what the breeder instructed: a half-cup of food in the morning and a half-cup at night.

But the piglet named Hammond started raiding the pantry and digging through the trash. A veterinarian told Monroy that he was behaving badly because he was starving.

The breeder promised the diet would keep him a mere 12 inches tall. But when Hammond grew to 20 inches and 180 pounds, "my husband couldn't handle it any more. 'Either the pig goes or I go,'" Monroy, of El Monte, California, says he told her.

So she took the animal to Lil' Orphan Hammies, a rescue about 130 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

It's a common story playing out nationwide, leaving thousands of pet pigs homeless and rescues packed. The crunch has led many sanctuaries to limit how many pigs they will accept or stop taking them completely.

The craze for tiny pet pigs started decades ago and gets reignited every few years. Online sellers offer teacup pigs for thousands of dollars, promising the animals will stop growing after age 1 and stay small if fed a restricted diet.

But the tiny pigs keep growing until age 4 and will starve if they aren't fed properly with potbellied-pig food or a blend of vegetables, animal groups say. Once they grow too big to handle, people give them up.
