Once the fire was knocked down, Lacey Fire District 3 in Lacey, Washington, administered oxygen to a family of hamsters on Sept. 26.
There were two adults named Oreo and Madonna and 3 babies found the living room area during the fire, according to the department. One baby hamster didn't make it, the department explained via Twitter message to USA TODAY Network.

A host of ultra-Orthodox passengers heading to Israel to celebrate the Jewish new year delayed an El Al flight out of Kennedy Airport, kvetching that they couldn’t sit next to women because of religious reasons.
The Haredi travelers wouldn’t sit unless they could trade their seats with other passengers, rankling the secular Jews on board the Tuesday night flight, according to Shalom Life.
“It was an 11-hour long nightmare,” said one passenger of the flight, which left on the eve of Rosh Hashanah and arrived around 5 a.m. Wednesday in the Holy Land.
One man asked a woman identified as Galit to get her tuchus out of her seat next to her husband, but she refused to budge.
“Why should I agree to switch places?” Galit told Ynet. “I ended up sitting next to a … man who jumped out of his seat the moment we had finished taking off and proceeded to stand in the aisle.”
Other passengers recalled that the black-clad rabblerousers stood in the aisle, praying loudly and causing a scene — and making it impossible for others to go to the bathroom.

West Hollywood, CA - Crews responded to a water main break Friday afternoon in West Hollywood, flooding a portion of Sunset Boulevard and surrounding streets.
It was reported at about 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and North Olive Drive (map), an area located near the House of Blues.
Crews were reportedly trying to repair the pipe when it burst. Water was seen cascading down Sunset and Olive Drive.
According to the Department of Water and Power, the ruptured pipe is a 36-inch line installed in 1916. It was lined with cement in 1957 to protect from corrosion.
House of Blues announced Friday night's concert lineup was cancelled as a result.

The First Female Genital Mutilation Clinic for Girls Opens in UK
In the UK alone, more than 60,000 girls are at risk or suffering from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), according to a new report. The study, done by Equality Now and City University London, prompted the University College Hospital Clinic to open a monthly service dedicated to helping girls who are dealing with the ramifications of this practice.
It aims to both educate and council, with a focus on girls under the age of 18. Statistics have shown that if families are educated about the practice, it could save younger siblings from FGM. Although FGM clinics do exist in the UK, this will be the first one primarily devoted to minors.
It will work closely with families, social services and law enforcement. Referrals as well as surgery, when necessary, will be offered.

One woman, who agreed to speak about her experience with FGM, is a successful, modern 27-year-old living in the UK. A daughter of Eritrean immigrants, she was ‘nicked’ when she was a child. “You know the worst thing,” she says, “Is people assuming I’m somehow broken because of this. There is a stigma surrounding it and I rarely bring it up with boyfriends because of that. They all assume I’m defiled and ruined…I don’t need pity though.” She related that she still enjoys sexual activity and can achieve orgasm. “I am still a whole person; not defined by this.”
She said she would never perform the same ritual on her daughter, but holds no ill will towards her parents for what they did. “It was cultural, and they didn’t know any better. If there had been someone to explain to them why it was wrong, or even unnecessary, they probably wouldn’t have done it. It’s a matter of educating people.”
This is exactly what the FGM clinic for girls is hoping to achieve. While many within the west see FGM as unimaginable, the point of the clinic is not to shame or castigate, but simply to help parents and children who are grappling with this issue. It hopes that by treating the youngest subjected to FGM, and opening a dialogue, they can stem the tide of this practice for future generations.

Trooper charged with felony. Asked man for his license. shot him as he reached for it.
(Newser) – Officials say a former South Carolina state trooper is charged with a felony in the shooting of an unarmed man during a traffic stop earlier this month. The SC Law Enforcement Division says in a news release that 31-year-old Sean Groubert was charged yesterday with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Authorities say Groubert stopped a driver in Columbia for a seat belt violation on Sept. 4. The man got out of his car, and investigators say the trooper shot him as he reached back into his vehicle. Groubert was fired last week.
Prosecutors released video of the traffic stop that shows the trooper asking the driver for his license, then firing several shots as the man reaches back into his vehicle. The man then screams, "What did I do?" and tells the trooper he was just trying to get his license. Groubert says he shot the man because he was reaching back into his car.
