Chevrolet confirms that police van has no bolt inside, has smooth interior

The police van in which Freddie Gray supposedly sustained his fatal injuries does not come with a bolt sticking out from the back door, Chevrolet has confirmed.
Designs from the car maker show that the Chevrolet Express - the vehicle used by the Baltimore Police Department - is smooth on the inside of both cage doors.
Chevrolet spokesman Michael Albano confirmed to Daily Mail Online that the standard issue Chevrolet Express Police Transport Van has bolts that are built into the door and don't stick out.
Mr Albano said that law enforcement agencies are known to customise their own vehicles and that the Baltimore Police Department may have done so to their fleet.
The development raises a number of questions about the official account put out by the force which emerged today in a report of its internal investigation into Gray's death.

Crying with happiness, the man who filmed the Freddie Gray video and was then arrested at gunpoint,

He has since been released without charge but the other two men have not, according to CopWatch's Twitter page. It is not clear whether they face any charges.
His arrest came after days of alleged intimidation from police officers for filming Gray, who suffered a catastrophic spinal injury while in police custody and passed away a week later on April 19.
Earlier this week, Moore hit out at police for issuing his photo and saying he was 'wanted for questioning'.

According to Moore, he had already spoken with officers and handed over his footage of Gray's arrest. He believes cops released the image to intimidate him.
'What is so important that you have to plaster my picture over the Internet? I've already spoken,' Moore told the Baltimore Sun.
'For the police to post that picture and say you don't know who I am, that's B.S. You know who I am.'

dad responds to school district that made his 5 year old cover up her spaghetti strap dress

Kindergarten Cop! A Houston dad, Jef Rouner, called out his 5-year-old daughter's school district after her kindergarten class shamed the little girl for wearing a spaghetti-strap dress.
Rouner vented his frustration at the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in a blog post written for the Houston Press, which has gone viral after it was published on April 22. The dad recalled how his daughter had her heart set on wearing a "rainbow sun dress" as the spring weather kicked in.

"I finally acquiesced and let her," he wrote. "Still it wasn't too surprising to me to see her walk out of school that afternoon with her T-shirt on over the dress and her jeans on under it."

It was their exchange that shocked him. "'Did you get cold, sweetheart?' I asked her," he wrote. "'No,' she said a little crestfallen. 'I had to change because spaghetti straps are against the rules.'"
"I'm not surprised to see the dress code shaming come into my house," Rouner wrote. "I didn't think, though that it would make an appearance when she was five years old. Five. You get me? She's five. Cut her hair and put her next to a boy with no shirt on and she is fundamentally identical. I guess you could argue that a boy would not be allowed to wear a shirt with spaghetti straps either, but the day they sell anything like that in the boys section of a Target I will happily withdraw my objections."

police van carrying Freddy Gray made mystery stop. cops didn't report it

http://nypost.com/2015/04/30/blaltimore-police-hand-report-on-freddie-gray-death-to-prosecutor/
At the same news conference, Deputy Commissioner Kevin Davis reviewed the timeline of Gray’s time in custody and his death — and acknowledged that the van made a fourth stop.
Gray was arrested after he made eye contact with officers and ran. After a foot chase, officers pinned him down, cuffed him and loaded him into a van.

Last week, Davis said there were three stops — one to put leg irons on Gray, the second “to deal with Mr. Gray” for an unexplained reason and the third to pick up another prisoner.

The new stop “was discovered from a privately owned camera,” Davis said, and came between the first and second stops. He did not elaborate.

The revelations came after two new accounts of what might have happened to Gray emerged.

Baker slammed for making 'distasteful' cake showing planes smashing into the Twin Towers

An owner of a patisserie in Vienna has shown his dissatisfaction with the Austrian governing coalition by creating a sugary sculpture representing the 9/11 terror attacks, infuriating Austrians.

Thomas Kienbauer, the owner of the Alexander patisserie in Vienna, created an unusual cake that depicts the New York twin towers in the colors of the Social Democrats (SPÖ) and the conservative People’s Party (ÖVP), two parties in the current governing coalition in Austria.

The planes flying into them represent the opposition: the Greens and the right-wing Freedom Party (FPÖ). Another plane atop one of the towers, representing the one that crashed into the Pentagon, embodies Austrian liberals.

Homeless woman's plight stirs consciences - 78 yr old driven another city by police employee

Homeless woman's plight stirs consciences

Officials in two cities are coming to terms this week with how a 78-year-old homeless woman came to be dropped off by a Napa Police employee on the streets of Fairfield Friday after maxing out her time at the South Napa Shelter.

The incident came to light when a good Samaritan in Fairfield saw the woman struggling with her walker and luggage late that afternoon and realized the elderly woman needed help in finding a place for the night.

This set off a flurry of phone calls between homeless advocates and police officials in Fairfield and Napa who tried to sort out how Catherine Campbell, a senior citizen with a physical disability, could have ended up in that situation.

Samina Masood, executive director of a Fairfield homeless facility, was so disturbed that she wrote an email that night to a range of public officials, from President Obama down to Napa Mayor Jill Techel, saying the incident showed "we are living in a very broken country" that doesn't properly take care of the homeless.

----!

"We weren't dumping," Napa Police Chief Steve Potter said Wednesday. "We don't want a 78-year-old lady out on the street."

As Napa Police explain the situation, the department's homeless outreach worker, Brandon Gardner, drove Campbell to Fairfield on Friday because he believed shelter space was available there.

Marco Rubio Went to Bat for Corinthian Colleges

The Florida senator sent a letter last summer to the Department of Education asking it to "demonstrate leniency" with the now-shuttered for-profit college network.
Last summer, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida asked the U.S. Department of Education to "demonstrate leniency" toward Corinthian Colleges by permitting the wealthy for-profit company to continue accessing millions of dollars in federal financial aid while it was cooperating with a federal investigation.

Ten months later, the company shuttered its remaining 28 campuses, instantly displacing some 16,000 students just days after it was fined $30 million by the Department of Education for a scheme involving "confirmed cases of misrepresentation of job placement rates" for as many as 947 students. The decision to close shop came after years of federal and state investigations into the company.

The top-tier Republican presidential candidate had made his plea in a letter—obtained by Bloomberg Politics—dated June 20, 2014 and addressed to Jim Shelton, the deputy secretary of education, and Ted Mitchell, the undersecretary for post-secondary education.

"It has been brought to my attention that the U.S. Department of Education has recently placed extreme financial constraints on Corinthian Colleges, Inc. by restricting the company's timely access to federal financial aid. It is my understanding the the Department of Education has requested extensive documents be provided by Corinthian Colleges for review, and Corinthian has acted in good faith to try to provide these documents as expeditiously as possible," Rubio wrote.

Rand Paul Blames 'Lack of Fathers' for Baltimore Unrest—But His Own Son Was Just Arrested

Rand Paul Blames 'Lack of Fathers' for Baltimore Unrest—But His Own Son Was Just Arrested for Drunk Driving
Does the presidential aspirant blame himself?
http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/rand-paul-blames-lack-fathers-baltimore-unrest-his-own-son-was-just-arrested-drunk
As for root causes, Paul listed some ideas of his own. "There are so many things we can talk about," the senator said, "the breakdown of the family structure, the lack of fathers, the lack of a moral code in our society."

It's a pretty interesting explanation, given what happened with Paul's own son earlier this month. Young William Hilton Paul, 22, crashed his car into an occupied car after driving drunk, “the third time that William Paul has had a run-in with the law involving alcohol.” Perhaps the Senator shouldn't throw rocks while living in a glass house?
