Texas Among States Opting Out Of New Anti-Prison Rape Requirements

http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2015/01/04/texas-among-states-opting-out-of-new-anti-prison-rape-requirements/

(AP) Inmate advocates worry that a proposal to reduce the financial penalties for states that don’t comply with a 2003 federal law aimed at eliminating rape behind bars will severely damage it.
The measure failed this fall. Its sponsor, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, vows to re-introduce it in the new GOP-controlled Congress.
Cornyn said the funds include grants for worthy programs — such as ones that support rape and domestic violence victims — and that the law should be more narrowly tailored to affect money that goes to prison construction, operations and administration.
Supporters of the measure acknowledge the change would essentially eliminate the financial penalties, since little — if any — federal grant money is used for prison construction, daily operations and administration.
Those costs are typically handled by local government budgets.

Mcd tries to make consumers think chicken mcnuggets are low calorie

No, 50 chicken McNuggets are not 470 calories (how I wish). Look closely, and you'll notice some fine print stating that the calorie count is based on a single serving, and 50 McNuggets should serve 5 adults. So, we're actually talking about a 2,350-calorie box of food product. Now, in person, the text is definitely large enough to read if you stop and look. It's just dwarfed by all the text around it, so someone giving the sign a passing glance might miss it entirely. I doubt McDonald's really expects anybody to believe that more than 4 dozen fried chicken nubs contain fewer calories than a Big Mac. But the company is clearly obfuscating some of the real nutrition info through the power of graphic design.

William Mattson, 52, was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly raping his nephew's girlfriend inside their shared Conway, South Carolina home.
William Mattson's New Year’s Eve left him seeing stars.

The 52-year-old sexual assault suspect was found beaten to a bloody pulp when picked up by police in Conway, S.C. just after midnight Thursday, police said.

The victim's boyfriend told police he found Mattson having his way with her inside a bedroom of his father's house, where he lives with his girlfriend and Mattson, Myrtle Beach Online reported.

Upon hearing odd sounds coming from inside the room, he told police he kicked the bedroom door down and apparently went Rambo on his uncle while physically driving him out of the home with pounding fists.

After calling police and reporting the chaotic scene, Mattson returned to the property and told officers that his sexual relations with the victim were consensual.

That's when Mattson's nephew lunged at him again, brutally ripping into his face once more, police said.

watch how you feed your pets in the new year

After weight loss and skin removal

No doggie bag for him! Obese dachshund sheds 43 POUNDS after a year of dieting
Dennis ballooned to 56 pounds after staying with his owner's relative, who fed him 'human food' and treats
The over-fed canine had to undergo surgery to remove his excess skin after losing the weight
______

The devoted pet owner credits an intensive exercise program and incredibly strict diet plan as being the main reasons behind her dog's dramatic weight loss - and she hopes that other people will be able to find inspiration in what she has done for her canine, and repeat the same success with their own animals.
'We should not be feeding dogs people food,' she explained.
'And [we shouldn't] be over-feeding them and giving them excessive amounts of treats.
'Just like humans, they need diet and exercise in order to live a healthy life.'

Emails and Racist Chats Show How Cops and GOP Are Teaming Up to Undermine de Blasio
Threats seem to expose a political plot against the NYC mayor and the BlackLivesMatter movement.

http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/emails-and-racist-chats-show-how-cops-and-gop-are-teaming-undermine-de-blasio

AlterNet has obtained emails revealing plans to organize a series of anti-de Blasio protests around the city until the summer of 2015. Billed as a non-partisan movement in support of “the men and women of the NYPD,” the protests are being orchestrated by a cast of NYPD union bosses and local Republican activists allied with Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor who recently called on de Blasio to “say you’re sorry to [NYPD officers] for having created a false impression of them.” The first rally is planned to take place at Queens Borough Hall at noon on January 13.

----

National Police Defense Foundation executive director Joseph Occhipinti chimed in to offer help in coordinating the demonstrations. “I would suggest that everything go through the [Patrick Lynch’s Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association] for any organized protests,” he added. A former agent of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, Occhipinti was convicted in 1991 of conducting illegal searches and narrowly escaped jail time for allegedly stealing $16,000 from his victims. When the US attorney who secured his conviction, Jeh Johnson, was appointed by Obama to direct the Department of Homeland Security last year, Occhipinti rushed to the right-wing writer Charles C. Johnson to complain.

The anger coursing through the ranks of the NYPD is driving union bosses like Lynch to ratchet up their rhetoric against the mayor. Lynch is up for election soon and seems desperate to channel the resentment of his constituents. Meanwhile, Republican operatives see a chance to do fatal damage to a rising Democratic star and close Clinton ally by resurrecting the kind of racial backlash politics that won them urban white votes during the Nixon era.

dog given no other care but food and water for a year

Short bark and sides, please! Dog neglected by its Russian owners for a year is found with fur so overgrown he could barely move
Dog was passed to new owners after master Gore Zhdanov died aged 79
Relatives began arguing over inheritance so dog was locked in flat
Kept there for a year with food and water but was otherwise uncared for
Took team of six three hours to remove matted fur after he was found

This tangled mass of fur may resemble some sort of monster but it is in fact a dog that was neglected for a year after his master died and the new owners refused to care for him.
The faithful pet was given food and water, and allowed access to the balcony so he didn't make a mess inside the house, but was otherwise left uncared for.
When animal workers were finally called they found him covered in a mass of hair, encrusted with faeces and soaked in urine, which was so heavy it meant he could barely move or breathe.

'Six people spent three hours trimming Cocos fur, filling four 100 liter bags with dog hair. After that, Cocos' teeth were thoroughly cleaned.'
Cocos now lives with Elena Rivvo, a local expert in bobtails, who has put him on a special diet of vitamins in order to help him back to full strength

unarmed sleepwalker shot dead by neighbor

Unarmed Texas newlywed shot dead by his neighbor on Christmas night after trespassing on his property - all while 'he was sleepwalking'
Spencer Crandall of Wise County, Texas was shot dead by his neighbor on Christmas night as he tried to enter the man's home
Crandall's family is now revealing that the 31-year-old had a history of sleepwalking and may have been unaware of what he was doing at the time
Crandall and his wife Amanda had just been married earlier this year
The neighbor has not been charged at this time, despite that fact that Crandall was unarmed during the incident

The shooting is said to have happened at the home of Craig Rigtrub, who did not know Crandall

-----

The family of a Texas man who was shot dead on Christmas night by his neighbor claims he may have been sleepwalking at the time.

Spencer Crandall of Rhome was banging on the door of his neighbor's house and ringing the bell when the incident occurred, sometime around 4am on December 26.

And when that neighbor saw Crandall trying to crawl over a privacy fence on the property he retrieved a firearm and, when a brief struggle ensued and Crandall attempted to enter the front door of the home, the owner shot him dead.

It is being reported that the incident occurred at the home of Craig Rigtrub, who did not know Crandall.

neighbors with 12 and 50 acre plots cant get along

Couple say they complained to cops about 'harassing' neighbor so many times that THEY were arrested for invasion of privacy
Paul Sohacki and Katherine Gannon say they were harassed by neighbor Gene Ellis for years and started recording him
When they turned videos over to the prosecutor, he decided to arrest them for invasion of privacy

Videos that Mr Sohacki posted on YouTube show numerous confrontations between Mr Ellis and Mr Sohacki and Ms Gannon on their shared property line.
In on exchange, Mr Sohacki walks up to his property line, where Mr Ellis is posting 'No Trespassing' signs.

Real imaginative Gene, putting up no trespassing signs,' Mr Sohacki jeers.
Mr Ellis responded: 'I want you off my land. Stop lying, you and your wife.
'You're always trying to follow me around on my own property. This is my property. I've already been here for 20-something years. You only been here for three and nobody likes you.'
The banter continues with Mr Ellis saying: 'Why can't you be a nice neighbor? I feel sorry for you. I really do.'
Mr Sohacki responds: 'Lies roll off your tongue like it is incredible, Gene. What a frickin' liar.'
Mr Ellis, done hanging the signs, ride off saying: 'I'm praying for you, Paul. I'm really praying for you, buddy.'

In another confrontation, Mr Ellis yells that Mr Sohacki is throwing rocks at him - all while Mr Sohacki holds a camera and is clearly not throwing rocks
