The most important thing going forward is fair elections

I have been engaging in keyboard warfare about ICE and my response is that the immigration effort is another facet of voter suppression—the 2020 strategy.

That led me to the following easy-to-Google PBS article which provides facts and reality in contrast to Republican hysteria. I’m saving it for future reference.

By the Numbers: Voter Fraud
October 18, 2016

With just over three weeks until Election Day, Donald Trump has ramped up his claims that the election is "rigged" against him. He blasted Republican leaders on Twitter on Monday, calling them "so naive" and saying: "Of course there is large scale voter fraud happening on and before election day."

What is the truth behind Trump’s declarations? We look at the numbers behind voting fraud in America.

Percentage of Americans who think that the election could be “stolen” from Trump: 41%
(73% of Republicans and 17% of Democrats)

Number of voter fraud cases since 2000: 44 cases out of 1 billion votes cast
(8 of which involve more than one ballot affected)

Rate of voter fraud: 0.0000044%

Number of states with active voter ID laws: 32

Number of laws passed to tighten voting laws since 2001: Over 1,000

2012 voter turnout: 129,085,403

Approximate number of 2012 voter fraud cases: 4

Projected number of 2016 voter fraud cases based on 2012 turnout: 4

Your odds of getting struck by lightning (twice!) are more likely than election fraud at: 1 in 9 million

And you’re much more likely to win an Olympic gold medal, with odds of: 1 in 662,000

The "sitting president" indictment issue is flawed

So an obviously criminal president is the subject of an ethical investigation.

The criminal president has the advantage of learning of all charges and evidence against him and has the advantage of the passage of time so that the issue and even investigators may die—literally or figuratively.

The criminal then has the option to (a) get re-elected to delay or avoid prosecution and (b) completely obstruct future justice and change the investigatory process—including laws so they are in his favor—and to screen out unfavorable prosecutors as well as to funnel money to the election of more favorable political allies.

This notion must be challenged. It tips the scales of justice.

Pelosi press conference trumped by Huckabee and Conway

Coincidence? I think not.

By the evening news cycle little was heard about Pelosi. All media focus was on his staff.

The media made already minimizes Democrats. I hope Fay strategy that solves this problem. Perhaps timing of conferences should be rethought.

More attention paid to college admission scandal than treason

Watching the “nuz” this morning and they’re asking tough questions and connecting the dots of all involved.

When I visit the message boards of stations like ABC and CBS people are livid. They want blood from the likes of Felicity Huffman. 🙄🙄

Until the media gives the same treatment to Trump that it gives to Smollett, Kelly and other lesser crimes than the Republicans’ IDGAF.

Ellen Degeneres' tagline: "Be kind to one another"

It’s especially important — critical even — to heed her message in these troubled times.

I strive to not just look at the people that I encounter daily but to see them and their humanity and to discard the filter of hatred that is all too present and growing in strength.

I pray for America as well.

The faster impeachment begins the more it favors Trump

There has been massive, unprecedented obstruction all during the investigation and after with Congress. Until the missing information is in the hands of Congress, they are likely to miss or overlook a lot needed for an ironclad case.

Rushing favors Trump and Republicans politically. The sooner they get this out of the way before the 2020 elections the more able they are to capitalize on the short attention span of most.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the “voices” shouting impeach now are trolls.

Impeach? Yes. Rush? No.

The rain will not stop

It’s been raining for months in Chicago. From March to June— the entire spring — has pretty much been ruined by cloudy days and rain.

Right now it’s pouring sheets of rain. The temperature was 81° two hours ago. My car thermostat reads 59° now as the windshield is being pelted by hail.

I just remodeled and waterproofed the basement and I am fearful that no matter how well I have prepared there’s only so much water the ground can absorb.

The weather forecast says rain more than half of the days in the coming week. This is insane and this is only the beginning of the impending catastrophe that is climate change.
