Win Win

Today was our county Democratic assembly. Occupy was given space to present information and hand out literature about upcoming activities and events. Lots of buttons were given out, lots of questions asked and answered, and new members signed up. Really kind of awesome that our Democrats and our Occupy are welcome in each other's camps!

Pumped

The last errand of the day was a quick trip to the gas station. I was watching the pump counter as the gas gurgled into the tank, when a quiet voice asked, "Do you really think the Democrats will win this fall?"

Now, my car is liberally decorated with Democratic bumperstickers and windowstickers and dashboard signage, and in this "conservative" neighborhood such things sometimes elicit contrary conversation. Here we go, again I thought as I finished my task. I turned to find an older man standing there, hands in pockets, awaiting my answer.

"I certainly hope so, " I smiled. "There's a lot of us working toward that goal."

He shook his head and gave a little almost laugh, then said "Never thought I'd say this, but I hope you're right. What they're trying to do to that health care law, they shouldn't be doing that. That's just wrong." Then he sighed, gave a tiny smile and got into his car. He drove off with his McCain-Palin bumpersticker intact.

To be honest, I'd begun to suspect that there are some very unhappy, hurting people within the Republican party. But I never expected to hear it voiced.

In truth, I feel for the guy. It hurts to find out that the one you love has betrayed you.
