Ken Buck Only Member of Colo. Delegation to Back Travel Ban

Congressman Ken Buck (R-Greeley) has generally refused to answer reporter questions about his position on Donald Trump’s travel ban for immigrants, leaving local news outlets such as Denver7 and the Denver Post to guess about his position on one of the more pressing issues in the country. But Ernest Luning of the Colorado Statesman will not be denied; as Luning reports, Rep. Buck on Monday offered his unqualified support for the Muslim travel ban:

“Our country has always offered hope for the oppressed and homeless, but hope also requires safety and security,” Buck said. We should not let people into this country unless we can thoroughly vet them. America welcomes Muslims from 190 countries and temporarily bans all individuals from 7 countries. The President’s executive order is a temporary effort that addresses a serious issue with terrorist hot spots.”
Congressman Buck is the only member of Colorado’s Congressional delegation to offer his full support for Trump’s travel ban. Even Colorado Springs Rep. Doug Lamborn made it clear that he opposes Trump’s Executive Order creating the travel ban.

Yep, he's my "representative". Buck has a long and very unsavory history against immigrants, up to and including getting spanked by the state Supreme Court for his actions when he was DA (for which legal battle he billed us $100K). What's a bit weird is that his mentor, Dick Cheney, came out against the ban. Even so, people around here would have been stunned with any other response from Buck.

Down the Hatch!

Orrin Hatch fancies himself a man of God; he likes to compose little hymns. He has just called senate Democrats “stupid” for their refusal to lie down in front of a Republican steamroller. Perhaps his next hymn should be to the glory of Trump. Meanwhile, he might want to take a look at Matthew 5:22 (not to suggest that he would consider the words to be meant for himself).

Slapped

It feels like I’ve been slapped. Repeatedly. That’s because of all the facepalms while watching the presser with Sean Spicer. He sure is a good match for his boss, equal measures of petulance and mendacity. More’s the damned pity.

WHAT will it take?

Trump has now removed DNI (Director of National Intelligence) and the Joint Chiefs from his security briefings. What in the world will it take for House and Senate Republicans to acknowledge that Trump is JEOPARDIZING THE SAFETY OF THE UNITED STATES?

Poison

Truman was president when I was born. Eisenhower was the first president I remember, he and Mamie seemed like everyone’s grandparents. By the time JFK came along I’d learned to pay attention, to be engaged in the discourse. Some presidents I liked, some I disliked. There have been measures of approval and disapproval. A couple of them have inspired us to be better. A couple of them angered the nation. Out of all the presidents in my lifetime, only one has horrified the world; and he took office only one week ago. And every day, tweet by tweet, executive order by executive order, he vows to continue on that path. Where most administrations at least give voice to some promise, this one has chosen to be a threat. He is turning the blessing of America into an international curse.

Stuck

He's not the president of our choosing. But we're sure as hell stuck with his consequences.
