Actress and director Penny Marshall died Monday night at the age of 75, according to TMZ. According to her publicist Michelle Bega, Marshall died “peacefully” in her Hollywood Hills home from “complications from diabetes.” Marshall became well known for her role in the 1976 Laverne & Shirley sitcom, which ran until 1983. She went on to direct several hit moves, including Big and A League of Their Own.
“Our family is heartbroken over the passing of Penny Marshall,” her family said in a statement. “Penny was a tomboy who loved sports, doing puzzles of any kind, drinking milk and Pepsi together and being with her family.” The New York Daily News reports the family plan on holding a “celebration of her life” at a later date.
Marshall is reportedly survived by her “older sister Ronny, her daughter and three grandkids — Spencer, Bella and Viva.”

In Indiana, over 400,000 people—equivalent to a little more than 10% of registered voters in the 2014 midterms—have been kicked off the rolls, and North Dakota is stripping Native Americans of the right to vote because the U.S. Postal Service won’t give some of them an address, and Republican legislators have passed a law requiring a physical address in order to vote. Here is an update on where this nonsense stands exactly three weeks from election day.
