Sanders' Quest for Superdelegates Loses One After Virgin Island Official Flips to Clinton

Sanders' Quest for Superdelegates Loses One After Virgin Island Official Flips to Clinton
His last-ditch bid for the Democratic presidential nomination relied on persuading Clinton's superdelegate backers to support him.

Bernie Sanders is trying to persuade Democratic Party superdelegates backing Hillary Clinton to flip their allegiance as a last-ditch bid for the nomination, but one Sanders supporter is going the other way.

Emmett Hansen II, the Democratic National Committeeman for the U.S. Virgin Islands, decided to shift his support to Clinton after a weekend briefing on her plans for U.S. territories that followed months of dissatisfaction with Sanders’ lack of concrete positions.
His reasons go right to the heart of Clinton's critique of the Sanders campaign. Hansen said that while he’s a believer in sweeping change, he also wants to get things done.

More Sanders staffers exit campaign

More Sanders staffers exit campaign
By GABRIEL DEBENEDETTI 05/17/16 01:05 PM EDT

A handful of high-level staffers have left Bernie Sanders’ campaign in recent days, including his director of technology and three of the four members of his original senior leadership team in California — a state his team has said is critical to his bid for the Democratic nomination.

The moves come at a time of contraction for the campaign, which let go of hundreds of field staffers earlier this month amid slowed fundraising.

Zach Schneider, among the campaign’s lead tech staffers, voluntarily left on Friday after six months when the in-house text messaging program he had been working on was cut, he told POLITICO.

Business state Democratic chairwoman oversees targeted by Berners

Business state Democratic chairwoman oversees targeted by Berners
by Jon Ralston Tue, 05/17/2016 - 06:46

Irate Berne Sanders supporters did not just leave threatening voicemails and texts for state Democratic Party Chairwoman Roberta Lange but also launched an assault on the businesses she oversees, the owner says.

Tom Gallagher, the former Caesars CEO and congressional candidate, said that his son's tavern, the Porchlight Grille, began receiving threats shortly after the convention ended in chaos Saturday. Lange is the day operations manager there.

"Beginning about 3am on Sunday morning our bartenders at Porchlight Grille began getting non-stop phone threats from Bernie partisans," Gallagher told me via email. "The level of threats including death threats and vitriol was astonishing. One of our bartenders was actually a Bernie supporter and was stunned at the threats he was hearing on the phone. He began to respond telling people that he was just trying to do his job and pay off his student loans and their tactics were harming his livelihood. It made no difference to the callers. Their goal was to harass and as became clear....to shut down the business and Roberta’s job with it."

Pall of Nevada fracas hangs over Democratic contest

Pall of Nevada fracas hangs over Democratic contest
Tuesday, May 17th 2016, 2:26 am CDT
By MICHELLE RINDELS and NICHOLAS RICCARDI
Associated Press
LAS VEGAS (AP) - As Oregon and Kentucky queue up to vote in the Democratic presidential nominating contest, the pall of a divisive state party convention in Nevada hangs over the race.

"It was beyond the pale," said Democratic state Sen. Pat Spearman, a Clinton supporter who said she saw an elderly woman hit with a bottle amid the ruckus. "There's no reason to do that. That's the kind of shenanigans that they do on the other side."

The Nevada dissension does not change the likely outcome of the Democratic nominating contest, in which Clinton holds a commanding lead in pledged delegates and is expected to lock up enough to clinch the party's presidential nomination following primaries on June 7.

NYT : From Bernie Sanders Supporters, Death Threats Over Delegates

From Bernie Sanders Supporters, Death Threats Over Delegates
By ALAN RAPPEPORTMAY 16, 2016

Thrown chairs. Leaked cellphone numbers. Death threats spewed across the Internet.

No, this is not the work of Donald J. Trump supporters, some of whom have harassed critics of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. It was angry supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders who were directing their ire at the Nevada Democratic Party — and its chairwoman, Roberta Lange — over a state convention on Saturday that they think was emblematic of a rigged political system.

“It’s been vile,” said Ms. Lange, who riled Sanders supporters by refusing their requests for rule changes at the event in Las Vegas. “It’s been threatening messages, threatening my family, threatening my life, threatening my grandchild.”
