Hillary Clinton has the capacity to do something that almost never gets discussed in the campaign: change the ideological landscape of the federal judiciary for a generation. It could be one of the defining features of her legacy.
In part, that will be a consequence of getting to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left open by Antonin Scalia creating the first progressive Supreme Court majority in decades and opening the door to much more expansive efforts at progressive legal advocacy.
But it more subtly reflects a Clinton administrations likely impact on lower courts.

Democrat projected to win 332 electoral votes she needs 270 to win
Posted Aug 22, 2016 5:00 AM By Nathan L. Gonzales
Donald Trump appears to be drowning in the wake of the conventions.
The GOP presidential nominee was in a precarious electoral position even before the conventions because of his high unfavorable ratings and penchant for controversial remarks. The four days in Cleveland were supposed to unite the GOP but appear to have done the opposite, as Trump has lost ground to Hillary Clinton in national and swing-state polls.
While the overall numbers in the Electoral College havent changed, certain key states appear to be slipping out of Trumps reach while a few reliably Republican states are coming into play. Were changing the ratings in seven states toward Clinton and just one in Trump's direction.

As their nominee unravels, Republicans worry where his scorched-earth, rigged-election rhetoric leads the GOP and the country.

Donald Trump is on track to lose in November and to refuse to accept the legitimacy of that Election Day result. Thats a problem not just for Hillary Clinton but for both political parties and the country. For everyone, really, other than Donald Trump.
By hiring Breitbart News Steve Bannon, a media provocateur in his own image, and accepting the resignation of the man who was supposed to professionalize him, Trump is signaling the final 78 days of his presidential campaign will be guided by a staff that indulges his deeply held conspiracy theories and validates his hermetically sealed worldview.

After Trump's terrible first few weeks of the general election, actual Republican elected officials got in on the doom and gloom action. That doesn't mean they're not voting for their party's presidential nominee. They're just saying that his campaign could mean the end of Republican congressional dominance or even the party itself.
