Romney Suggest that Releasing More Returns Could be Further Politically Damaging.

Source: Talking Points Memo

Mitt Romney appeared on Fox & Friends Monday morning to respond to the growing number of conservatives who are calling on the former Massachusetts governor to release more of his tax returns.

At least eight Republicans have urged Romney to publicize the records and put the issue behind him, but the candidate is sticking to his guns. The public will see just two years of returns and no more, Romney said, before appearing to admit that the records may contain something politically damaging:

ROMNEY: The Obama people keep on wanting more and more and more. More things to pick through, more things for their opposition research to try make a mountain out of and to distort and to be dishonest about. We’re going to put out two years of tax returns.

(at end of article, much further down..)

Republicans are also raising alarms about Romney’s returns. “The fact is, there are a couple of years he may not have paid any taxes,” MSNBC host and former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough predicted during Monday’s Morning Joe. “Maybe he’s concerned about that. But if it’s going to come out, he needs to get it out now so he has a couple of months to explain it.

Joe may have hit the nail on the head, although the article is about a Romney interview this morning..

The Other Ad, that is almost as good as the new Obama Ad..2010

Jerry Brown, ..Mag Whitman..
note, I said almost..
Oh, guess who won this election..this was "the ad"

I remember seeing this, and saying to myself..that is it..that is the one..a game changer..
It does something to me that no other political ad had ever done.
The new Obama ad, "Firms" made me feel exactly the same.
I hope it does the same. but I think it will..
but no one can predict the future..no one..

New York Times Editorial: Penn State's Part

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/13/opinion/penn-states-part-in-the-sandusky-sexual-abuse-scandal.html?_r=1&hp

The factual conclusions of the investigation of Pennsylvania State University’s cover-up of serial sex crimes by one of its former football coaches are searing enough: the university’s leaders did nothing for nearly a decade and a half — from the late-1990s until just recently — while a predator trawled for children in their midst, using the school’s football program as a lure. Worse than that, the report says, the school’s leaders worked diligently to conceal significant facts about the case from the authorities, the board of trustees, the university community and the broader public.

But the exhaustive investigation by Louis J. Freeh, a former federal judge and F.B.I. director, goes much further. It shows how slavish devotion to some institutional imperative can trump everything, including the law, basic human decency and the bedrock obligation we all have to protect defenseless children from harm. At Penn State, the imperative was protecting a storied football program and its legendary coach. In another huge institution betraying children under its protection, the Roman Catholic Church, it was the sanctity of the priesthood...

further down in editorial ....

According to the Freeh report, Mr. Spanier, Mr. Curley and Mr. Schultz then concocted a plan that involved encouraging Mr. Sandusky to seek professional help and barring him from bringing children alone to the football building. (They incongruously described this as “humane.”) Later that same year, Mr. Sandusky is said to have assaulted yet another victim in the football building showers.

As Mr. Freeh noted on Thursday: “The most powerful men at Penn State failed to take any steps for 14 years to protect the children Sandusky victimized.” He said they “never demonstrated, through actions or words, any concern for the safety and well-being of Sandusky’s victims” until after he was arrested in 2011.

I heard this today, about "Affordable Care Act" after the election..All states will agree to it..

According to a friend of mine, who says, "All those governors that say they will not implement the Act, will do so, after the election..no matter what"

Why? Because the Federal Government helps to subsidize certain emergancy room costs, that hopitals sorely need to treat people without insurance. If a state does not implement the act, subsidies will stop after January 1, 2013.
According to my friend, the hopitals that treat non insured people...will force these idiot governors to implement
the act...(after the election) since they cannot afford to have those subsidies taken away...end of discussion..Hospitals must treat uninsured by law, and therefore, must have subsidies to keep going...(according to my friend)

That is what my friend says, and that would be ironic. All agree because of money..(maybe not, they do not want the uninsured to live)

New Jersey Woman puts off Surgery for 51 pound tumor (no insurance)

MSNBC on Health

New Jersey surgeons removed a rapidly growing, 51-pound cancerous tumor from a woman who had delayed treatment for more than a month until she became eligible for health insurance, her doctor said on Tuesday.

"She was a skinny lady with a huge belly. I mean it looked like she was literally pregnant with triplets," said Dr. David Dupree, who led the surgery on the 65-year-old woman, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, N.J.

"She was just all belly," he said in describing his first meeting with the patient, a homemaker from nearby Union Beach, N.J., who asked to be identified only as Evelyn, her first name.

About six to eight weeks before she showed up at the hospital, Evelyn noticed discomfort in her abdomen and that her normally 120-pound frame was rapidly ballooning. Dupree said she sought medical help on June 4, just days after her 65th birthday, when she would qualify for Medicare.

19 Kids found Home Alone in Hot Filthy Kentucky Home

Source: AP, and Kentucky.Com

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Authorities plan to file charges against a man and a woman accused of leaving 19 children ranging from 8 months to 14 years old unattended for a week in a sweltering, filthy home near Bowling Green.

The children were found Monday night in a small three-bedroom rental home near Interstate 65 by officers who were responding to a complaint from a neighbor. It was littered with dog feces and had no air conditioning, Warren County Sheriff's Detective Tim Robinson said.

"It's such an unusual circumstance to find 19 children like that, we're still putting things together right now," Robinson said.

The adults, Irving "Joe" Smith and Jackie Farah, left town on June 27 and told a neighbor to check on the kids, Robinson said. They are expected to face charges when they return

Safety Expert Injured During Fireworks Demonstration

Source: Chicago Tribune

By Jonathan Bullington

Tribune reporter

1:25 p.m. CDT, July 3, 2012
A fire chief’s demonstration of the dangers of fireworks became a teachable moment this morning when a canister tipped over and shot fireworks into a crowd, injuring a director of a fire safety group.

Laura Barros, assistant executive director of the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance, suffered a small burn on her left foot. Before heading off to the hospital, Barros said the episode illustrated how dangerous fireworks can be no matter who handles them. The
incident happened during a press conference at alliance headquarters in Mount Prospect.

At the tail end of the conference, Hillside Fire Chief Michael Kuryla demonstrated the power of legally purchased novelty fireworks by lighting a sparkler and then igniting two fireworks canisters placed on a wooden pallet in the parking lot. Before a crowd of media, fire officials and alliance staff members, one of the canisters tipped over and shot fireworks into the crowd. Barros suffered a small black burn on the top of her foot.

The crowd immediately rushed to her aid, pouring cold water on the burn and calling for an ambulance to take her to an emergency room.

Surviving on a meager $1,300 a month, 87-year-old Theresa Ferritto fretted about the cost when her dentist told her she needed two teeth pulled.
.
She figured an oral surgeon would be too expensive. So she decided to try out a dental chain that promoted steep discounts in its advertisements. She went to an Aspen Dental office just outside Cleveland.

Ferritto said Aspen Dental wouldn’t just pull the teeth but insisted on a complete exam. She was bewildered when they finally handed her a treatment planfour pages long. Total price: $7,835.

Ferritto could not afford it, but Aspen Dental signed her up for a special credit card, with monthly payments of $186 for five years. She blames herself for signing the papers.
