Zohran Mamdani Slams Trump's Republican Party: 'Only Agenda' Is 'Cruelty and Punishment' Towards Muslims and Minorities

New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani (D) slammed President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers nationwide on Saturday, saying their “only agenda” is “cruelty and punishment” towards Muslims like him and other minorities. The 33-year-old Democratic Socialist blasted the president and Republicans during an appearance on MSNBC’s The Weekend: Primetime.

Co-host Ayman Mohyeldin asked Mamdani for his reaction to Republicans who have criticized him recently, including Vice President JD Vance, who mocked Mamdani for saying his aunt stopped taking the subway because of anti-Muslim bigotry following the Sept. 11 attacks.

“This is all the Republican party has to offer — cheap jokes about Islamophobia so as to not have to recognize what people are living through,” Mamdani said. “Attempts to pit people’s humanity against each other.” Other GOP critics include two Republican lawmakers who are pushing for the feds to review Mamdani’s naturalization and possibly “denaturalize and deport” him. Mamdani said this is nothing new for Republicans.

“In a moment where Americans across the country are deeply fearful of whether they can afford the basic dignities of life, be it health care, be it groceries, be it their rent, the focus of the Republican Party is to try and denaturalize the Muslim guy that won the New York City Democratic Primary with the most votes in our city’s history?” Mamdani said a moment later.

Suspects arrested over brazen jewel theft from Paris' Louvre museum

Police have arrested suspects in connection with the theft of priceless jewels from the Louvre museum, just as one attempted to leave the country, the Paris prosecutor’s office said.

Thieves last week targeted the Louvre’s Apollo Gallery in a brazen daylight raid, fleeing with jewelry worth tens of millions in a matter of minutes. Scores of investigators have been involved in chasing down those suspected of the heist, which Louvre director Laurence des Cars called a “terrible failure.”

French media first broke news of the arrests, with CNN-affiliate BFMTV reporting that two suspects in their thirties and known to police were detained on Saturday evening local time.

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said “one of the men arrested was preparing to leave the territory from Roissy airport,” also known as Charles de Gaulle airport, a facility near Paris. The prosecutor did not confirm the number of arrests or say if any of the jewels were recovered.

Trump ally says grand jury empaneled in Florida to investigate a sweeping conspiracy against Trump

Source: ABC News

October 25, 2025, 6:35 PM

A key Trump ally says a federal grand jury has been empaneled in Florida that will begin meeting in January to investigate what he calls a decade-long conspiracy against President Donald Trump.

In a series of interviews with conservative podcasters over the last week, conservative attorney Mike Davis -- a close friend and informal adviser to Attorney General Pam Bondi and other top Trump administration officials -- has claimed that the grand jury will consider whether to bring criminal charges against top Democratic figures that Davis claims have colluded over the last decade to impede Trump, beginning with the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election through the criminal cases against the president.

"I've been publicly calling for this for three years. I'm going to make damn sure that these lawfare Democrats go to prison during the four years of President Trump's second term," Davis told conservative commentator Benny Johnson on Friday.

While Davis does not hold a government position, court documents confirm that a federal judge last month ordered a grand jury to be empaneled in Fort Pierce, Florida, beginning in January at the request of the Trump administration. A representative of the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the purpose of the grand jury.

Exxon sues California over climate disclosure laws

Source: Reuters

October 25, 2025 6:05 PM EDT Updated 11 hours ago

Oct 25 (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) tab sued California on Friday, challenging two state laws that require large companies to publicly disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related financial risks.

In a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, Exxon argued that Senate Bills 253 and 261 violate its First Amendment rights by compelling Exxon to "serve as a mouthpiece for ideas with which it disagrees," and asked the court to block the state of California from enforcing the laws.

Exxon said the laws force it to adopt California’s preferred frameworks for climate reporting, which it views as misleading and counterproductive. The oil giant said it already reports emissions and climate risks voluntarily, and objects to California's frameworks.

Democratic-ruled California has long had some of the strictest environmental rules in areas like vehicle fuel efficiency standards and planning policy, after passing a climate change law in 2006. California passed two laws in 2023 that would require companies to publicly report their greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related financial risks.

Pam Bondi Gives Trump Bad News When He Asks Her To Discuss Alleged Grand Jury Probe: 'We Can't, Legally'

Source: MEDIAite

Oct 23rd, 2025, 5:48 pm

President Donald Trump asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to speak about the reported grand jury investigation into Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA), only to be told that she could not legally do so.

Back in August, NBC News reported that sources at the Department of Justice said that grand juries would investigate Schiff and New York Attorney General Letitia James for potential mortgage fraud in separate cases. James was indicted two weeks ago.

The president took questions from reporters at the White House on Thursday, where one of them asked about Schiff. “There’s a report as a grand jury on Adam Schiff for apparent mortgage fraud,” the reporter said. “Wow,” Trump deadpanned. “If he is indicted, should he step down as a U.S. senator?” the reporter continued. Here is the resulting exchange:

TRUMP: Well, you know, I’m not gonna comment on that. I will just say, Adam Schiff is one of the lowest forms of scum I’ve ever dealt with in politics. He’s a horrible human being, a very dishonest person. I have no idea what’s going on. You’re telling me he’s gonna be indicted. I don’t know. You could ask Pam. I don’t know if she could say it. Probably, you are allowed to say it, but I wouldn’t know about that. I can only tell you he’s a very– he’s a very bad, I think he’s actually a sick person.

[To Bondi] Do you wanna talk about that?

BONDI: We’re not going to comment on any grand jury that’s open. We can’t, legally.

TRUMP: I don’t know. By the way, I hope it’s true, but I don’t know anything about it.

Hunter Biden believes Donald Trump is hiding something by not releasing Epstein files

Source: The Independent

Saturday 25 October 2025 16:30 EDT

The Trump administration is seeking to keep damaging information in the Epstein files from reaching the public, according to former President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.

During an interview this week on Substack with journalist Tommy Christopher, Biden said he had “no insider information whatsoever” to support his theory, but believed it was “silly” to think the administration wasn’t running political cover of some kind.

“The simplest explanation in this instance seems to be, whether its about him or whether its people that he is protecting, is that they’re clearly not releasing what they’re not releasing to protect someone,” Biden said when asked about the administration’s reticence to release more materials related to the late sex criminal and former Trump friend.

“All of his supporters have gone from calling it the biggest cover-up in the history of the world to a Democratic hoax!” he added elsewhere in the interview.

Judge rules immigration detention of Chicago man with daughter battling cancer is illegal

Source: AP

Updated 3:03 PM EDT, October 25, 2025

CHICAGO (AP) — The detention by immigration authorities of a Chicago man whose 16-year-old daughter is undergoing treatment for advanced cancer is illegal, and he must be given a bond hearing by Oct. 31, a federal judge has ruled.

Attorneys for Ruben Torres Maldonado, 40, who was detained Oct. 18, have petitioned for his release as his deportation case goes through the system. While U.S. District Judge Jeremy Daniel said in an order Friday that Torres’ detention is illegal and violates his due process rights, he also said he could not order his immediate release.

“While sympathetic to the plight the petitioner’s daughter faces due to her health concerns, the court must act within the constraints of the relevant statutes, rules, and precedents,” the judge wrote Friday. Torres’ attorney took the ruling as a win — for now.

“We’re pleased that the judge ruled in our favor in determining that ICE is illegally detaining Ruben. We will now turn the fight to immigration court so we can secure Ruben’s release on bond while he applies for permanent residence status,” his attorney, Kalman Resnick, said in a statement Friday night.

Bari Weiss is eyeing Fox News star Bret Baier and CNN's Anderson Cooper for 'CBS Evening News' anchor chair

Source: The Independent

Saturday 25 October 2025 10:54 EDT

Looking to make a splash during her first few weeks as CBS News’ editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss has been eyeing a few big names to potentially helm the network’s flagship evening program – including Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier, two sources familiar with the matter told The Independent. Weiss’ interest in poaching Baier from Fox News to lead CBS Evening News was first reported by Status News.

Since officially arriving as the Tiffany Network’s newsroom leader earlier this month, Weiss – the founder of anti-woke digital outlet The Free Press, which was also purchased by CBS’s parent company Paramount – Weiss has quickly made her presence felt at the broadcast news outlet.

Besides causing staffers to literally roll their eyes at her Sorkinesque battle cry and sparking confusion with a DOGE-style missive ordering employees to describe their workdays amid pending layoffs, Weiss has involved herself in the network’s booking process – such as setting up morning anchor Tony Dokoupil’s exclusive interview with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

As the network’s coverage starts to echo her sensibilities, including her sister and Free Press co-founder promoting her articles on air, Weiss has also sought to recruit ideological allies to help carry out her vision of “radically centrist” contrarianism.

Amazon strategised about keeping its datacentres' full water use secret, leaked document shows

Amazon strategised about keeping the public in the dark over the true extent of its datacentres’ water use, a leaked internal document reveals. The biggest owner of datacentres in the world, Amazon dwarfs competitors Microsoft and Google and is planning a huge increase in capacity as part of a push into artificial intelligence. The Seattle firm operates hundreds of active facilities, with many more in development despite concerns over how much water is being used to cool their vast arrays of circuitry.

Amazon defends its approach and has taken steps to manage how efficient its water use is, but it has faced criticism over transparency. Microsoft and Google regularly publish figures for their water consumption, but Amazon has never publicly disclosed how much water its server farms consume.

When designing a campaign for water efficiency, the company’s cloud computing division chose to account for only a smaller water usage figure that does not include all the ways its datacentres use water so as to minimise the risk to its reputation, according to a leaked memo seen by SourceMaterial and the Guardian.

Amazon as a whole consumed 105bn gallons of water in total in 2021, as much as 958,000 US households, which would make for a city bigger than San Francisco, according to the memo.

Republicans grapple with shutdown - and why more are blaming the GOP

Source: The Hill

10/25/25 12:00 PM ET

Republicans are grappling with public polls showing the public places more blame on them, rather than the Democrats, for the shutdown, even as they argue they have the moral high ground in the shutdown fight.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Republicans stress that they put no partisan poison pills in a GOP-crafted, House-passed stopgap to fund the government through Nov. 21. Democrats in the Senate have repeatedly blocked that bill as they demand that Republicans first negotiate with them on health care issues, particularly on enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies expiring at the end of the year. Johnson this week pointed to news coverage about the government shutdown while arguing Democrats are more to blame.

“If the Republicans were responsible for this shutdown, that would lead the news in every mainstream media outlet every single night, it would be top fold of every newspaper, on the front page every single day,” Johnson said in a Wednesday press conference, asserting that the press was trying to “give cover to the Democrats who’ve caused this.” “The American people are not stupid, and we’re in here every day appealing to their common sense and relating the facts,” Johnson said.

Yet poll after poll finds that slightly more Americans think Republicans are to blame for the shutdown than who think Democrats are at fault. An Oct. 15-20 Reuters/Ipsos poll found 50 percent of adults blaming Republicans in Congress for the shutdown, and 43 percent blaming Democrats in Congress.

It's not "slightly more". It's pretty significantly more who blame the GOP. Both citations have a 6% - 7% difference.

“If the Republicans were responsible for this shutdown, that would lead the news in every mainstream media outlet every single night, it would be top fold of every newspaper, on the front page every single day,” Johnson said
