There is one thing that's left out. We had a long wooden pole (clothes pole) that was used to push the clotheslines up so that longer items (sheets/pants/etc.) didn't brush the ground and get dirty.
You have to be a "certain age" to appreciate this one.... (But you YOUNGER ones can read about "The GOOD ol' days"!!)

THE BASIC RULES FOR CLOTHESLINES:
(If you don't even know what clotheslines are, better skip this.)
1. You had to hang the socks by the toes... NOT the top.
2. You hung pants by the BOTTOM/cuffs... NOT the waistbands.
3. You had to WASH the clothesline(s) before hanging any clothes - walk the entire length of each line with a damp cloth around the lines.
4. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order, and always hang "whites" with "whites," and hang them first.
5. You NEVER hung a shirt by the shoulders - always by the tail! What would the neighbors think?
6. Wash day on a Monday! NEVER hang clothes on the weekend, or on Sunday, for Heaven's sake!
7. Hang the sheets and towels on the OUTSIDE lines so you could hide your "unmentionables" in the middle (perverts & busybodies, y'know!)
8. It didn't matter if it was sub-zero weather... clothes would "freeze-dry."
9. ALWAYS gather the clothes pins when taking down dry clothes! Pins left on the lines were "tacky"!
10. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes up so that each item did not need two clothes pins, but shared one of the clothes pins with the next washed item.
11. Clothes off of the line before dinner time, neatly folded in the clothes basket, and ready to be ironed.
12. IRONED???!! Well, that's a whole OTHER subject!

Is the "Link" feature button supposed to be working?
In other forums to add a link to a block of text, you highlight the text, click the "link" button, paste the URL into the popup box and click "OK". Then the text that was highlighted becomes an active link.
I've done this a few times since the buttons appeared but frankly, I just assumed the thing worked that way and did not check back on whether or not it showed up.
I just did that in a post and while checking the message, I realized that neither the link OR the highlighted text showed up, even though the code in the message looked correct and matched what was done in the old DU forum by hand.
Here is the text and link as I tried to post:

Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) on Mitt Romney - "no compassion"
This afternoon, Rep. James Clyburn was a guest on the Martin Bashir show on MSNBC to talk about the South Carolina primaries. He really laid into Mitt Romney, then talked about how he knew Romney's father.
I'm paraphrasing here: "Mitt Romney got all that inheritance from his Dad but he he got no compassion, and he didn't develop any..."

For well documented ancestors, how much do you put in your software?
I'm working on a branch that goes back to a pretty famous guy - Walter Palmer. He came over from England in 1629, help found Rehoboth, MA, and Stonington, Connecticut. Since he had a dozen children and they were all prolific, a LOT of people trace back to Walter.
There are several books about him, a Walter Palmer Society with a regular newsletter, and thousands of references to him on the internet both at historic sites and individual family history sites.
So how much do I want to put into his page on my genealogy software? I've got the basics - speculated birth, immigration, records of where he lived, some about land he owned, his religion, some of the offices he held in different towns, his children with their spouses and children, when he died, his will, where he's buried, and a picture of his tombstone.
I feel as though if I keep putting information in, I might as well put an entire book's worth!
Since I am putting together the genealogy for my nieces and nephews, maybe I should just be sure that the various books and histories that include Walter Palmer are listed so if any of them ever want to read up on him they can find those resources.

How to NOT get anything done!
We have not been feeding our birds for a couple of years because the deer were eating all the bird seed. It got so the deer were scarfing up as much as 40 pounds in one night and I just cannot afford that!
Last weekend we moved the stands for the bird feeders closer to the house and I hung out hummingbird feeders - the hummers have been spending a lot of winters at some places around the county, including some Western hummers that came east instead of going south. No hummers so far.
Hubby had moved the old bird feeders with the stands and this morning when I brought my coffee in, the perches on both feeders outside the windows were full with chipping sparrows. I bought some bird seed yesterday, so I went out and filled the feeders.
Within twenty minutes, the word was out - the feeders were FULL! I logged 12 chipping sparrows, 4 chickadees, 4 titmice, 1 white breasted nuthatch, 6 goldfinch, 1 female cardinal, 2 blue jays (who did not come to the feeders, but yelled at the other birds from the tree), 2 pine warblers, and another warbler I never did identify - it was very plain and could be an immature of any number of warbler. The normal murder of crows cruised by and a few turkeys vultures floated over while catching a thermal off the open field.
It was so much fun watching the little birds come and go, I got pretty much nothing done today. Well, I did feed the birds.
Tonight when I let the cat in, there were three deer up near the house. I hassled them until they left, but they may get bold enough to get close enough to eat out of the feeders again even though they are only four feet from the windows. Maybe I need a motion activated light or alarm?
Need black eyed pea recipes - NOT hoppin' john!
Hubby brought home some fresh black eyed peas. No matter that we have a package of frozen ones or a couple of cans of them in the pantry - he saw them and brought them home. Two pounds since they were BOGO. 
Now I like hoppin' john a lot, but I made too much of it LAST New Years Eve and we only just used up the last of it a couple of weeks ago. So I need some alternative ways to use these FRESH black eyed peas.
Some one here posted about making black eyed peas burgers - I like that idea and have found a couple of recipes for them to adapt. But what else can I do with them?
PS 
I've had the discussion AGAIN with hubby about if he wants black eyed peas to buy dried or canned. I plan meals and buying fresh produce on the spur of the moment messes up my plans. And buying TWO POUNDS of FRESH black eyed peas really messes up my plans!
