Robert Reich: AT&T is laying off thousands of workers at beginning of the year without severance pay

AT&T is laying off thousands of workers at beginning of the year without severance pay.

Instead, the employees will have to train their foreign replacements.

At the same time, the company saved $3B thanks to Trump's tax cuts.

Trickle down economics is a cruel joke.

Corey Lewandowski drops potential Senate run in New Hampshire

Source: CNN

CNN)Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski will not run for Senate in New Hampshire after considering a potential campaign earlier this year, he announced Tuesday.

"After much consideration I have decided to forgo a campaign for the US Senate," he tweeted. "While taking on a career politician from the Washington swamp is a tall order, I am certain I would have won. My priorities remain my family and ensuring that @realDonaldTrump is re-elected POTUS."

Lewandowski, who served as Donald Trump's campaign manager until he was fired in summer 2016 and was considered to lead the White House impeachment team in September, was reportedly mulling a run against New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen in 2020. He said Tuesday that he was "humbled by the outpouring of support" he received in New Hampshire and that he would endorse a candidate in the Republican primary in hopes of beating Shaheen.

He had been huddling with New Hampshire political operatives and confidants this summer -- joined in some meetings by his wife -- as he mulled a potential Senate bid in the Granite State, multiple sources familiar with the discussions told CNN at the time. He also appeared to have his former boss's blessing, a voice that could help sway Republican primary voters, just before Lewandowski appeared at a campaign rally in New Hampshire with Trump earlier this year.

'What an insult': CES names Ivanka Trump as keynote speaker

Consumer-electronics trade show’s invitation of Donald Trump’s daughter draws outrage after years of overlooking women in tech

Leading consumer-electronics trade show CES is facing criticism after picking Ivanka Trump to serve as its keynote speaker next month in Las Vegas, after years of being accused of overlooking the role of women in technology.

The selection of Donald Trump’s daughter and top adviser exposes the vast electronics expo to charges that when, finally, it invites a female keynote speaker, it invites one with limited experience in technology.

“This is a terrible choice on so many levels but also – what an insult to the YEARS AND YEARS of protesting how few women were invited to keynote & being told it was a pipeline problem while similarly-situated men were elevated,” tech commentator Rachel Sklar tweeted. “There are so many great, qualified women. Shame.”

CES 2020, formally known as the Consumer Electronics Show, confirmed this week that Trump will join a keynote discussion on jobs and the future of work alongside Gary Shapiro, president of CTA, the firm that produces the event considered the largest of its kind globally.

Trump says he'll sign "phase one" trade deal with China on Jan. 15

Source: Axios

President Trump tweeted Tuesday that he will sign the "phase one" trade deal with China in a ceremony at the White House on Jan. 15.

The intrigue: Trump did not indicate that Chinese President Xi Jinping would be in Washington for the occasion, saying that "high level representatives" would be present instead. Reports earlier this week indicated that Vice Premier Liu He, China's top trade negotiator, would be the one to sign on behalf of China.

The president also added that he would head to Beijing "at a later date" to begin talks for the "phase two" deal.

The big picture: From what has been publicly announced, the "phase one" deal averted a new round of tariffs scheduled to go into effect on Dec. 15, and a Chinese official said at the time that the U.S. would reduce its tariffs on Chinese goods in stages.

I have it on good authority that Marianne would turn the Oval Office into the roller skating rink from XANADU

BREAKING: Civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis has been diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer.

https://twitter.com/axios/status/1211422284818341888
This month in a routine medical visit, and subsequent tests, doctors discovered Stage IV pancreatic cancer. This diagnosis has been reconfirmed.

While I am clear-eyed about the prognosis, doctors have told me that recent medical advances have made this type of cancer treatable in many cases, that treatment options are no longer as debilitating as they once were, and that I have a fighting chance.

So I have decided to do what I know to do and do what I have always done: I am going to fight it and keep fighting for the Beloved Community. We still have many bridges to cross.

To my constituents: being your representative in Congress is the honor of a lifetime. I will return to Washington in coming days to continue our work and begin my treatment plan, which will occur over the next several weeks. I may miss a few votes during this period, but with God’s grace I will be back on the front lines soon.

Please keep me in your prayers as I begin this journey.

— Rep. John Lewis
