Alaska GOP governor accepts Trump endorsement, Murkowski ultimatum

Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy (R) on Thursday accepted the endorsement of former President Trump, which came on the condition the governor does not, in turn, endorse Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) in her reelection bid.

Trump issued a statement Thursday evening saying that Dunleavy, who is running for a second term as governor, had accepted the endorsement.

"Please tell the president thank you for the endorsement," Dunleavy said in the statement. "With regard to the other issue, please tell the president he has nothing to worry about. I appreciate all 45 has done for Alaska and this country."

Michigan says it won't follow CDC's more relaxed COVID-19 quarantine recommendations

The Michigan Department of Health & Human Services said it won't adopt new, shorter federal COVID-19 isolation/quarantine guidelines until it reviews "the supporting evidence ... while awaiting additional information, ... specifically for special populations and in high-risk settings."

Rather, Michigan health leaders say they will continue to recommend previous, longer quarantine and isolation guidelines, including those for K-12 schools and congregate care settings.

"MDHHS will update Michigan’s guidance when additional information becomes available from the CDC," said a statement issued Wednesday night.

"The delta variant has already fueled the current surge in COVID cases and hospitalizations. The high transmissibility of the omicron variant underscores the importance of Michiganders practicing the COVID mitigation practices that are known to reduce spread and risk."

Ghislaine Maxwell found guilty in sex-trafficking trial

Source: The Guardian

British former socialite Ghislaine Maxwell has been found guilty in her Manhattan federal court trial.

Maxwell, 60, was arrested in July 2020, charged with involvement in ex-boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of teenage girls, some as young as 14.

Epstein, a convicted sex offender and presumed billionaire, counted Prince Andrew and former presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump as cronies before killing himself in a New York jail in 2019, about one month after his sex-trafficking arrest.

The verdict marks a dramatic conclusion to an unexpectedly fast-moving trial: proceedings were originally expected to take at least six weeks. Prosecutors called 24 witnesses over 10 days, and defense attorneys called nine witnesses over two days.

Michigan woman won't be charged for outing anti-mask nurses on Twitter

A conservative sheriff in Michigan who wanted charges to be filed against a Howell woman for calling out anti-maskers on Twitter won’t get his way.

Kasey Helton said the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office alerted her Tuesday evening that she won’t be charged, saving the county sheriff’s office from a potentially embarrassing lawsuit.

“This investigation, brought on behalf of the local Sheriff Mike Murphy — a vocal Trump supporter and who has previously refused to enforce @GovWhitmer mask mandate — represents a clear and punitive attack on my #1A rights guaranteed in the #Constitution,” Helton tweeted.

In a series of tweets earlier this month, Helton took aim at anti-mask nurses who spread misinformation about COVID-19 and the effectiveness of face coverings at local board meetings. In one of the tweets, Helton pointed out that one of the self-described registered nurses, who insisted masks collect “poop” and other bacteria, appears to work at St. Joseph Health. At a Brighton Board of Education meeting, the woman said she’s “absolutely, unequivocally, 100% against masking our kids.”
