I found a neat site for all sorts of conversions.

Well, actually for the most common conversions of ...length, volume, weight.

Been doing a lot of weight and volume conversions to treat a sick dog and cat, and stumbled on this.

Just plug your number into one of the boxes, multiple conversions pop up

So here is how a red state Gov. can pay his mistress without ( hardly) anyone noticing.

Rebekah Caldwell Mason, Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley's former communications director and current Senior Political Advisor, is not employed by the state of Alabama. Instead, Mason, the married mother of three, works for a non-profit political group set up to support Gov. Bentley's political agenda.

Mason's name has been linked to Gov. Bentley's since Dianne, his wife of 50 years, filed for divorce in August 2015.
Yesterday, Bentley confirmed he had sexually inappropriate conversations with Mason but denied having a physical affair.
The denial came after Spencer Collier, former director of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said he was fired after questioning the governor's relationship with Mason.

Here's how that non-profit trick works:

In 2013,she left her job as the governor's communications director to become a spokesperson for the Bentley reelection campaign.
and she formed RCM Communications, a political consulting and advising service registered to her home address in Tuscaloosa.
Mason is listed as RCM's only officer and the company has no listed phone number, website or Facebook page.

RCM did not do work for any other candidates in the 2014 election, according to financial disclosure forms filed with the Secretary of State.
The committee to reelect Bentley paid Mason's firm $426,978 for consulting and polling work during the 2014 election cycle.

After Bentley's victory in 2014, Mason moved into the role of Senior Political Advisor, where she spends time in the Legislature and traveling with the governor.
LOTS of traveling.
Mason's salary is paid by the Alabama Council for Excellent Government, a non-profit group formed to promote Bentley's political agenda.
Because of regulations involving 501 (c)(4)s, the group – a so called "dark money" organization - is not required to report its donors but can accept money from PACs, individuals or from leftover campaign funds.

Mason's name is not listed on the group's website and it's not known if she is a contractor or employee of the group.

So, evidently they have been an item since 2013.
His wife of 50 years divorced him "suddenly" he says, in late summer of 2015.
Divorce papers have been sealed.

Yes!!!!!...........Protesters Take Over Federal Auction of Oil and Gas Leases in the Gulf of Mexico

Protesters opposing new oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico disrupted a federal auction of new offshore leases Wednesday, swarming the New Orleans landmark where the bids were being taken.

The demonstrators rallied outside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, where the Interior Department's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) was auctioning off 45 million acres of Gulf sea floor for new exploration. About half of the crowd, which organizers estimated at more than 200, went inside, chanting "Keep it in the ground," "Don't auction our climate," and "This Gulf is not for profit," said Anne Rolfes, founding director of the environmental group Louisiana Bucket Brigade.

Snip:
Valerie Love, a clean energy campaigner for the nonprofit Center for Biological Diversity, said many residents are tired of the Gulf being treated as a "sacrifice zone," an area written off for the sake of profits.

"The Gulf has never seen this kind of massive protest brought to the heart of the auction rooms, where the waters are being sold off to oil and gas companies," Love said. "It's a huge stride forward." She said her organization has attended every federal lease sale so far this year, "And we're going to be at every single one going forward."

Wow.......Rockefeller family charity to withdraw all investments in fossil fuel companies

the fund singled out ExxonMobil, calling the world’s largest oil company ‘morally reprehensible’

The Rockefeller Family Fund, a charity set up in 1967 by descendants of John D Rockefeller, said on Wednesday that it would divest from all fossil fuel holdings “as quickly as possible”.

“There is no sane rationale for companies to continue to explore for new sources of hydrocarbons,” the RFF, which has relatively small total holdings of $130m (£92m), said in a statement. “We must keep most of the already discovered reserves in the ground if there is any hope for human and natural ecosystems to survive and thrive in the decades ahead.

“We would be remiss if we failed to focus on what we believe to be the morally reprehensible conduct on the part of ExxonMobil.
Evidence appears to suggest that the company worked since the 1980s to confuse the public about climate change’s march, while simultaneously spending millions to fortify its own infrastructure against climate change’s destructive consequences and track new exploration opportunities as the Arctic’s ice receded.”

and this:
Exxon knew of climate change in 1981, email says – but it funded deniers for 27 more years

Just like the tobacco industry knew nicotine caused cancer, but hid the fact PLUS then added MORE nicotine to cigs to make them more addictive.

“Families Were Blown Up” — Scenes From a Saudi-Led Bombing in Yemen

Around midday on March 15, fighter jets from a Saudi-led coalition bombed a market in Mastaba, in Yemen’s northern province of Hajjah. The latest count indicates that about 120 people were killed, including more than 20 children, and 80 were wounded in the strikes — perhaps the deadliest attack yet in a war that has killed more than 6,000 civilians. Local residents and health officials say the carnage was so great in Mastaba that most of the bodies could hardly be identified, and several were beyond recognition.

The Saudi coalition consists of nine Arab states that have joined forces against Houthi rebels who have taken over large parts of Yemen.
While U.S. fighter jets are not involved in the bombing campaign, the U.S. is providing intelligence and other forms of assistance, including weapons sales and aerial refueling of the Arab jets. After the latest attack, a top United Nations official, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, the high commissioner for human rights, said the coalition might be committing war crimes. While the horrific terrorist attacks against civilians in Europe receive extensive media coverage, the U.S.-supported bombings of civilians in Yemen get scant attention.

At the roadside marketplace in Mastaba, journalist Mohammed Ali Kalfood interviewed a number of survivors this weekend. The following is the account of Khaled Hassan Mohammadi, 21, who sold sacks of flour at the market and survived the attack. Mohammadi’s account has been translated and condensed.

Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya have all faced attempts to eradicate civilian populations by US led or assisted state actors who use anti-terrorism as the excuse.
"May be war crimes"?????????????

Better Call Saul renewed for season 3

AMC announced on Tuesday that it has renewed Breaking Bad prequel/spin-off Better Call Saul. The network has ordered a 10-episode third season of the drama starring Bob Odenkirk as troubled lawyer Jimmy McGill, who eventually will transform into Bad’s shady Saul Goodman. Series creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould will remain as showrunners for season 3.

“What Vince, Peter, Bob and the entire team have accomplished with Better Call Saul is truly rare and remarkable,” said AMC president Charlie Collier in a statement. “They have taken one of the most iconic, immersive and fan-obsessive (in the best possible way) shows in television history and created a prequel that stands on its own. Watching Jimmy McGill’s thoughtful, melodic and morally flexible transformation into Saul Goodman is entertaining and delighting millions of fans, whether their starting point was Breaking Bad or not. This series has its own feel, pace and sensibility and we can’t wait to see what this incredibly talented group comes up with next in season three.”

Better Call Saul earned seven Emmy nominations in 2015, including one for Outstanding Drama Series. Through the first four episodes of season 2, the show is averaging 4.4 million viewers, according to the network.
