After two major newspapers published the records of donations made to the inauguration, another reporter led a crowdsourced effort which revealed that many of the records may have been falsified. That includes instances of donations being made from “people” whose names don’t exist anywhere else, and whose listed mailing addresses are vacant lots.

The process began when the New York Times and Washington Post published the Trump inauguration donation records. They were suspicious from the beginning, because Trump’s inauguration ended up being a poorly attended and comparatively small event, not justifying the large amount of donated funds. But from there, Huffington Post reporter Christina Wilkie put the records into an editable online Google Document and asked her followers on social media to help her investigate the more than fifteen hundred supposed donors. The results thus far are astounding. A few examples:

– On line 183, a $400,000 donation is listed from “Isabel T. John” who doesn’t appear to be a real person according to any available public records. Moreover one participant confirmed first hand that the listed mailing address for the donation has been a vacant lot for years.

– On lines 726 and 727 of the document, a combined $100,000 was donated from the mailing address of a nonprofit organization that appears to have only had $500 in revenue to begin with.

Bruce Toll, a real estate executive who co-founded Toll Brothers, one of the nation’s largest home builders, and who is still active in the industry, owns a home nearby and frequently sees Mr. Trump at Mar-a-Lago, he said. While they did not discuss any of Mr. Toll’s specific projects, he said, the two would occasionally discuss national issues, such as Mr. Trump’s plans to increase spending on highways and other infrastructure projects.

Mary McChord, who has been helping oversee the Justice Department’s probe into Russian interference in the presidential election, is stepping down from her post as the acting head of the department’s national security division and leaving the federal government in the coming weeks, a source familiar with McCord’s role told The Intercept. The source, who asked not to be identified as McCord’s departure has not been formally announced, said that McCord plans to work in academia after leaving government.

It was not immediately clear who will take over for McCord. “I can confirm that Mary is leaving DOJ next month,” said Marc Raimondi, a spokesperson for the Justice Department, by email. “I cannot provide any additional material at this time.”

McCord will be leaving at a time when Justice is already in disarray. In March, Attorney General Jeff Sessions demanded the resignations of all U.S. attorneys who had served under President Obama and had not already left. As the Washington Post reported this week, nearly all the U.S. attorney positions remain unfilled.

Rod J. Rosentein, Trump’s nominee to be Sessions’s deputy, has not been confirmed. And Trump hasn’t even nominated replacements for the heads of major divisions within the department — including national security and civil rights. McCord was filling in at the national security division until the Senate could confirm a Trump-nominated replacement.

A Utah man and his fiancée say a U.S. Marshal booted them Saturday from a Houston flight en route to their Costa Rica wedding after they changed seats without permission — the latest in a string of negative headlines for the bedeviled company.

Michael Hohl and Amber Maxwell — whose destination wedding is still slated for Thursday — boarded flight no. 1737 along with friends to find a napping man sprawled across their assigned seats, 24B and 24C, they told local TV affiliate KHOU.

They relocated to empty seats three rows up, 21B and 21C, with Hohl telling the outlet they were “simply in an economy row a few rows above our economy seat” on the apparently half-full flight.

Hohl claims that after a flight attendant told them to return to their assigned seats, the couple did — only to be told to leave by a marshal who boarded the plane.
