Marvelous read: A Beginner’s Guide to the European Debt Crisis & why it effects US.

For ordinary, non-specialist people just tuning in to the horror-show which is the European crisis, the whole mess can seem daunting and almost hermetic—almost like a secret language, or a really complicated code.
Euro-this and euro-that and euro-the-other—that’s all everyone seems to be talking about. That, and words like troika, haircuts, bailouts, yields, not to mention an alphabet-soup’s worth of acronyms like EC, ECB (they’re different), EFSF, PIIGS, IMF, EMU——OMFG!

This European crisis will affect your financial future, no matter if it’s happening on another continent.
This is major—which is why so many ordinary people are confused and frightened: Because it seems terribly complicated.

But like all things which seem complicated at first glance, when you break it down, it’s simple.

This is what happened:

Fascinating.....High-speed animated map of global protests since 1980

the counter is at bottom right of screen.
Gives a marvelous perspective of how global protests are spreading, esp. towards the end of the animation.

L.A. plumbers turn family's pipe dream into reality ( very moving story)

What started it all:
"In April, Dave — the older of the 44-year-old twins by five minutes — responded to an urgent call from a condominium's homeowners association in Burbank. There was a leak in the building's garage that other plumbers couldn't trace to its source.

Dave arrived on-site and began checking the pipes in the three-story building's various units. He eventually arrived at a condo belonging to Dorothy and John Cothran.

Dorothy, 77, showed him in. In the middle of the living room, Dave saw her son Steve, 50, propped up in a hospital bed. His right leg had been amputated below the knee because of diabetes. In the nearby bedroom was her husband, John, 78, who has Parkinson's disease.

Recalling the moment, Dave told me that he "immediately felt and saw the life stripped out of Dorothy" because of the pressures she faced.

He proceeded with his inspection of the Cothrans' bathroom. He saw an old tub unsuitable for a person with Steve's disability. He saw fixtures that made the room impossible to move about in with a wheelchair or walker."

We droned 4 more "Al-Qiada militants" in Yemen last night. Notice the designation.

US officials confirm reports that 4 al-Qaida militants killed in an American drone strike in Yemen overnight
Breaking News Headline
http://www.breakingnews.com/

Usually the targets are retroactively named militants OR Al-Qaida ( in various spellings)
But last night some joystick jockey sitting in air condittioned comfort managed to splatter 4 people,
which were identified to the news as both militants AND Al-Qaida.

I have also seen strikes reported as against "islamic militants" which makes me wonder if there are now non-Islamic militants AND
Al-Qaida militants AND Islamic militants, AND just Al-Quaida,(with or without the U)
plus we were droning the Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan for awhile, but apparently have stopped doing that.

Tis all very confusing.

Omnicide..........is human extinction as a result of human action.

Most commonly it refers to extinction through nuclear warfare or biological warfare, but it can also apply to extinction through means such as global anthropogenic ecological catastrophe.

Omnicide can be considered a subcategory of genocide.
Using the concept in this way, one can argue, for example, that:
“ The arms race is genocidal in intent given the fact that the United States and the Soviet Union are knowingly preparing to destroy each other as viable national and political groups.”
As this claim illustrates, the concept of omnicide raises issues of human agency and, hence, of moral responsibility in discussions about large-scale social processes like the nuclear arms race or ecologically destructive industrial production.
That is, part of the point of describing a human extinction scenario as 'omnicidal' is to note that, if it were to happen, it would result not just from natural, uncontrollable evolutionary forces, or from some random catastrophe like an asteroid impact, but from deliberate choices made by human beings.
This implies that such scenarios are preventable, and that the people whose choices make them more likely to happen should be held morally accountable for such choices. In this context, the label 'omnicide' also works to de-normalize the course of action it is applied to.

I found this cheerful definition on :

Why would Obama send these 2 clowns on a mission to Egypt???????

Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and John McCain (R-Ari.) will travel to Egypt to urge the country to hold new elections and reinstall a democracy after the military succeeded in overthrowing the elected Muslim Brotherhood government.
The South Carolina Republican said President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry called him and McCain and asked them to make the trip to urge the Egyptian military to hold new Democratic elections.

Radioactive Fukushima groundwater rises above barrier being built to contain it

Radioactive groundwater at the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant has risen to levels above a barrier being built to contain it, highlighting the risk of an increasing amount of contaminated water reaching the sea, Japanese media reported on Saturday.

The Asahi newspaper, citing data from a Friday meeting of a task force working on the Fukushima clean-up at Japan's nuclear regulator, estimated that the contaminated water could swell to the ground surface within three weeks.

One of Tepco's biggest challenges is trying to contain radioactive water that cools the reactors as it mixes with some 400 tonnes of fresh groundwater pouring into the plant daily.
Tepco has been injecting a chemical into the ground to build barriers to contain the groundwater. But the method is only effective in solidifying the ground from 1.8 meters below the surface, whereas data from test wells shows the contaminated water has risen to one metre below the surface, the Asahi said.

Egypt General to US: "You turned your back on the Egyptians, and they won’t forget that"

In his first interview since the overthrow of President Mohamed Morsi last month, Egypt’s commanding general sharply criticized the U.S. response, accusing the Obama administration of disregarding the Egyptian popular will and of providing insufficient support amid threats of a civil war.

“You left the Egyptians. You turned your back on the Egyptians, and they won’t forget that,” said an indignant Gen. Abdel Fatah al-Sissi, speaking of the U.S. government. “Now you want to continue turning your backs on Egyptians?”

Sissi is widely considered the most powerful man in Egypt, wielding more control than anyone over the country’s direction after a tumultuous two and a half years in which the military has shoved aside two presidents following popular uprisings. He denied interest in running for president himself but did not rule it out.
