The people who DO deserve the blame for tonight

The people in 2000 who thought "Gore is as bad as Bush"
The people in 2004 that did not vote because Kerry was ugly
The people in 2010 who thought not voting was a sort of protest.

Your votes put Sam Alito on the Supreme Court
which made way for Citizens United.

Go ahead, blame Obama for not going into Wisconsin where the GOP had everything set up...
Go ahead, say Hillary would have done better (even though you know the GOP would have conspired as bad, and her husband might have helped!)

None of this changes the fact
Voting DOES matter,
not did, DOES.

If Voting did not matter, why did the GOP spend a Billion dollars to buy this election?

To wisconsin

To those who worked and toiled, thank you
To those that inspired the nation, thank you
to those that got loud even though others were cautious, thank you,

People like you, and you alone, are the true Value of this nation.

I am in Florida, and I can offer you sympathy, as you are about to get blamed and hated as a whole, with everyone forgetting that you stuck your neck out.

To those that sold their state out.
to those that are trying to exploit this,
and to those that did NOT VOTE...

I would say fuck you, but that is too kind,
I offer this quote from Dante:

"The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in a moment of crisis, merely do nothing."

I am an agnostic, but people like you make me wish there was a hell, instead we have the nation you have helped create.

On Bill Clinton

OK: Let me throw some disclaimers out so that people do not say "You just hate the Clintons, you Obamabot scum!"

Yes, he is the most successful Democrat since Truman. JFK might have been more, but he died too quick for us to see. Yes, our lives are better for him being president. Yes, if Hillary is the candidate in 2016, I will vote for her, as she is miles above anything the GOP can or will offer. Yes Bill Clinton is a fundraising juggernaut and a morale boost, at a time when we NEED both.

OK, we got that out of the way?

The fact is, when he says we should allow the Canadian oil pipeline, or that we should not attack Mitt on his record at Bain, or that we should keep the much hated Bush tax cuts, he is making it very clear that HE wants to set the agenda, and that agenda will stay SAFELY TO THE RIGHT. As hateful as it sounds, he is helping his friend son the right. This is twice as dangerous as the main reason many on the left are lukewarm about Obama is because they VOTED AGAINST BIPARTISANSHIP. Obama was not supposed to imitate Bill, much less appear like he is taking orders FROM HIM.

Yes, there are many, especially in those ever catered to "Reagan Democrats"/Independent (cough) voters/er, I did not vote for Bush brackets, would love to have that 3rd and 4th Clinton term. Many of them really WANT that warm, mushy Center. However, the fact is, the modern GOP is far to the right of even Newt Gingrich. They need to be told that they will NOT automatically get a chance to ask for an inch when they have taken a MILE!

Let's also be blunt, we might have had more leeway to be "bipartisan" ten years ago. The world has changed. We are NOT the almighty colossus everyone has to fear anymore. To be really blunt, everyone, from the Europeans to the Russians to the Chinese to the Latin Americans, are so sick of our BS that they finally unified. That does not mean they are in good shape, to the contrary, all of them have big problems which anything could set off, meaning they can all turn desperate. That means that even if they wanted to trust us again, they might not have the leeway. Of course, let us not forget that the mid east will not simmer down, and that the Global temperature is going up. Yeah, let's NOT forget that last part..

The point is, Bill may have good intentions, but he needs to avoid acting like he is a way to sway the Oval Office. Also, if he wants his wife to win in 2016, the last thing he needs is to give the GOP ammo, as they will imply he is in control.

PS: Let's face it, his running his mouth (and his wife's campaign) was what did her in. If she divorced him, went on Oprah, had Madonna congratulate her on the divorce, she would likely be president.

Florida 'stand your ground' law yields some shocking outcomes depending on how law is applied

http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/crime/article1233133.ece

From the article:
"• Those who invoke "stand your ground" to avoid prosecution have been extremely successful. Nearly 70 percent have gone free.

• Defendants claiming "stand your ground" are more likely to prevail if the victim is black. Seventy-three percent of those who killed a black person faced no penalty compared to 59 percent of those who killed a white.

• The number of cases is increasing, largely because defense attorneys are using "stand your ground" in ways state legislators never envisioned. The defense has been invoked in dozens of cases with minor or no injuries. It has also been used by a self-described "vampire" in Pinellas County, a Miami man arrested with a single marijuana cigarette, a Fort Myers homeowner who shot a bear and a West Palm Beach jogger who beat a Jack Russell terrier.

• People often go free under "stand your ground" in cases that seem to make a mockery of what lawmakers intended. One man killed two unarmed people and walked out of jail. Another shot a man as he lay on the ground. Others went free after shooting their victims in the back. In nearly a third of the cases the Times analyzed, defendants initiated the fight, shot an unarmed person or pursued their victim — and still went free. "

This is well worth reading folks. The teabaggers are already working on ways to use this law to "shoot hippies." See the Comments section for some choice peeks at the real Florida GOP.

U.S. tells Fla. to cease voter roll purge

http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2012/05/31/US-tells-Fla-to-cease-voter-roll-purge/UPI-52521338504587/?spt=hs&or=tn

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., May 31 (UPI) -- The U.S. Justice Department Thursday told Florida the state's purge of voter rolls is illegal under federal law and ordered state officials to cease the purge.

In a letter to Florida officials Christian Herren, the head of the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, said the state's search for non-citizens on voters rolls is being carried out in a manner that violates the 1965 Voting Rights Act and the National Voter Registration Act, The Miami Herald reported.

I have to confess, I did not think the DOJ would act...now we need to keep the pressure up!

Open letter to Debbie Wasserman Schulz

Your web page explained that you canot read email from people outside your district. That is an odd step for someone with a national position, a chair of the Democratic -->NATIONAL<-- Committee. However, that is not the point. I will bring up a duty that I feel you have not done, a duty that, as possibly the most powerful Democrat in Florida, you should already be on. As Florida election misery aka GOP Vote suppression affects the nation, and indeed, the world, I would ask my fellow DUers to read this too, though I think they will see my point more readily than you.

Simply put, we know that the GOP is set to STEAL ANOTHER NATIONAL ELECTION. Let's call it what it is. They know Florida is a tipping point, and for various reasons, the race is too close not to be stolen. This very page shows people that are clearly citizens, whose right to vote is denied. We know the Superpacs are planning to literally drown us with paid ads, and that they are preapred to resort to the same thuggery they did in 2000. Go ahead, read papers of even liberal papers like the Tampa Bay Times, check the comments section, and hear people literaly talk of using the "stand your ground" laws to shoot Democrats in Tampa during their "convention." Go ahead and see the Superpacs raise money, as Rick Scott gladly purges voters. Why am I mad at you, you ask?

Because YOU have a NATIONAL DUTY to speak on these things. You get a LOT of time on MSNBC, CNN, and I doubt Current would ban you (though I am sure Cenk U and Jennifer G could give you a finer talking to than I ever could. When you know that this PURGE (and let's use the nice Stalinist word, PURGE) is happening, WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU? It's bad enough that on the local level, the Florida Democratic party is so docile that our best hopes of beating Rick Scott are Alex Sink and Chain-gang Charlie Crist, you know, that GOP the Dems want to bring in. But, you, even if the local party is weak, have a national pulpit you can speak from.

You know what you should be doing: you should be getting to TV, bringing along victimized voters, and make Mittens and his sidekick Trump have to tapdance. To quote the idiot that weak Florida democrats helped put in Tallahassee: let's get to work.

Of 7,000 felons purged from voting rolls, many are Democrats, blacks

http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/crime/of-7000-felons-purged-from-voting-rolls-many-are-democrats-blacks/1231444

"According to the data, Democrats were three times more likely than Republicans to be removed. Blacks were almost as likely as whites to be removed (44 percent of those removed were white; 43 percent were blacks), while blacks make up 16 percent of the state's population."

"Pockets of Tampa and Jacksonville are home to the most purged voters in 2012, according to voters' ZIP codes. Jacksonville, the state's largest city, accounts for 928 removals, about one of seven felons swept from the rolls, even though the rate of violent crime declined there by 3.3 percent from 2010 to 2011."

Surprise surprise, to think that the GOP would target Urban areas.

To all those who want to move the convention, an honest question

Hpow would you prevent punishing those in NC that are fighting to turn the state blue? I do not deny that NC's law was evil, but it is not the will of most in NC, nor the South, but the prodict of the fact that the evanagelicals will stomp on broken glass to vote. How you do avoid cutting off those of us who, despite living in formerly red states, have been fighting like hell?

An open letter to Arriana Huffington.

I wil not subscribe to your site because you have turned it into a money pit for AoL, which is quite right wing. However, I am sure that you have some interns lurking here, chained to their cubicle for non existent pay.

As I have said to many, I never had problems with putting pressure on President Obama. Even the best Democrats, from LBJ to even Slick Willie Clinton, needed a left that placed pressure, so that they could turn to the mushy, whiny "moderates" and say "see, I have to do this." However, let's face facts Arianna, when you have "guest columnists" on like Mark Penn, or Lynn Evelyn de Rothschild, or others who make no bones about wanting to see Obama lose the election, you get to hide behind LGBT concerns, like the good Log Cabin Republican you were before the GOP threw you out the door.

Well, now it is time tpo put up or shut up. Yes, as our colunist Pab Subgenius pointed out, he did not close the infamous "states right" door, ironically the same one that some LGBT activists were hoping to use to get in Same-sex Marriage. Granted, we both know states rights is but a codeword for Dixie to remain it's evil self. However, while it took a long time for him to jump, he did not wait until the election: we know Bill Clinton is off somewhere going "he needed to wait until November, like -->I<--- did." And of course, you know if he loses this election, Fox news and it's allies will keep repeating "Those Gays cost him the election those gays cost him the election, supporting gays is political suicide!", until it becomes more widely believed than 2 plus 2 =4.

If you really claim to be the champion of gays, you have a vested interest in Obama beatung Romney, it is that simple. If you continue to work to get Obama out, then you, yes you, will be responsible when Mitt Romney uses his chance to salt the fields for all our rights, forever.

Casey Anthony and George Zimmerman

There is a point that I think needs to be added to the discussion about Zimmerman. Casey Anthony (or as Nancy grace calls her.."Tot mom.&quot just won a case most of the nation thought was a slamdunk. The general line in the media was that the prosecution tried going for a higher charge without enough evidence. The prosecutor resigned, and the wreckage is still smouldering in the Orlando area, the same metropolitan area the Zimmerman case is in. Sorry to say, but the prosecutors already know they cannot control a media circus, even if they have to truck in jurors from across the state like they did with Casey Anthony. The media knows they will be able to get away with murder, especially since many of them are already planning to be in the area for the GOP convention later on this year.

The points to ponder are:
1) will the prosecution feel confident pursuing a high charge when they are still smarting from the beating Casey Anthony gave them?

2) will the media feel even more emboldened to turn the trial into a media circus?, considering they were successful recently, and that Florida has rewarded such tactics handsomely before : Anthony, Terry Schiavo, Election 2000, Elian Gonzalez, the list goes on.

I am not sure if I am on to something, but I am beginning to wonder.
