A while ago I posted about how FGU was taken away from USF as part of the ego of Florida's greedy little Prince,JD Alexander. This article describes the school he created. What is sad is, there will be a second college made, Florida Tech, which was also carved out if the USF campus.

al jazeera us, hopes, dreams, wishes

OK, we all know Current will become Al jazeera US. What are peoples hopes? I personally hope that they at least keep Cenk and TYT on, as well as the Vanguard series of documentaries. Asfar as new shows, i would love to see a Keith or Phil Donahue come back.. Any other thoughts?

On the DU Catholic strife

There are two facts that both sides are trying to dance around:

FACT ONE: Even if you hate what the Hierarcy does with your money, when you put money in the collection plate, it will be used to HURT people. Yes, some of it may go to that soup kitchen, or that hospital, but the people in charge will see this money, and take whatever share they term fair for their own purpose, including making life more hard for Gays, or anyone else that they disapprove of.

I do not take this lightly, as I was going to be a priest at one point. However, I realized that, no matter how much I would "work within the system" that I would be called upon to defend things I knew were WRONG.

Now, on the other hand.

FACT TWO: If the Church is to change, it will do so because of it's liberal members; therefore, if you chase the liberals out, you make the Vatican's job EASIER.

If everyone at DU left, the same creeps we hate would celebrate, because they could achieve cohesion,and get plenty of money from the Rich people who would make up any difference. Look at the Tea Party. Yes, on paper, the Tea Party should be a wreck, but their very actions are what make the rich shovel gold into the furnace, and they know that just by being persistent and cohesive, they get what they want. The Vatican is the same.

Also, any force that cannot infiltrate and influence the other side is a losing side; if nothing else, think of the Catholic Duers or people who can help UNDERMINE THE VATICAN, which is the name of the game.

Left vs right

Here, Arianna gives praise to rand Paul, for breaking the party line. Now, let me lay some cards on the table:

Yes, I think Obama is WRONG with hsi drone policy. Not because it has not killed bad guys, but because the enemy knows that every innocent caught in the crossfire is a martyr. That and i know it will not be long before it gets used on us.

Yes, Rand Paul was right to slam John Brennan.

OK, I realize that facts are facts, regardless of who says them. However, I also think that people who are liars can take that pounce of truth and get a pound of lies.

With all due respect to Arianna, the problem we have is NOT that we are too partisan, but that a mushy, spineless middle has taken control. People do not risk offending powerful people anymore. That has resulted in a skewing towards the right, something that shows itself very well when Ms H offers her paper to people like Grover, Rand and Ron Paul, Gleen Greenwald, Lady Rothschild, ie PEOPLE THAT WANT TO destroy the left and weaken the government to the point where nothing stops the wealthy from doing whatever the hell they want!

And when people with a track record of favoring corporations slam Obama, they do deserve scrutiny. It is one thing for a Cornell West to slam Obama, because we know that he is NOT in favor of giving the right wing any more power. As much as the far left and center left may knock heads, we know they are not going to vote for Libertarian "reforms" any time soon,

So no, the left vs right is NOT outdated. Yes, there are those who use labels to hoddwink us, to fight us fighting amongst ourselves, but to paraphrase a quote often said around here: "reality STILL has a liberal bias."

Powerful women are not like the rest of us

Honestly, I found this article hateful. Any people, please, feel free to talk me down, but some choice quotes will show why I hated this.

"Isn't her responsibility to run a company according to her individual vision? If we want powerful female entrepreneurs shouldn't we allow them to pursue entrepreneurial power?

The strange idea that women who are successful must represent all women, or somehow be like all women, is both totally absurd and completely prevalent. How could someone in the position of Sandberg or Mayer live exactly like most women in America?"

In other words, how dare women not be any less sociopathic assholes like their male counterparts?

"But why should Lena Dunham or Sheryl Sandberg or Marissa Mayer have a special obligation to "represent" the experiences of the whole chaotic spectrum of American female experience?

Surely, as a country, we should have moved beyond the idea that successful women should be less ambitious, less ruthless, less self-involved, less inspired or single-minded in their pursuit of power or creative expression than their male counterparts.

If we are interested in female power, then we should let our powerful women pursue power, without harassing them with our distaste for that pursuit. We should not expect them to be warmer, fuzzier, more nurturing than their male counterparts because to do so is to impose sexist expectations."

Now, I would not be asking women to be NICE, any more than I would ask Latino ceos to be, but is having empathy for others,especially because you know that there is a thin line betyween you and your fellow minorties, unreasonable?

I come to bury Chavez, not to praise him

Now, I am not going to paint Hugo as a saint or scum, because few humans, if any, are. I do believe that he deserves praise, as he proved that a state could stand up to the mega-corporate powers, and that the poor not only deserve help, but can do great things once they are treated as something else other than slaves.

Now, of course, it is easy to skim over the fact that he had power no American president did, or even should have. It is tempting to see scum carted off to jail, but we never want a president to have that power to use on us, and yes, I do not like that Obama has that power now. I did not like the fact he dipped into anti semitic remarks to beat opponents, nor the idea he flirted with president for life.

There is also the hard fact that this whole region of the world is better off for what he did. Latin America is the one continent putting up resistance to the mega corps, and when all is said and done, after the US, Europe and China have finally ground to a halt, Latin America may thrive. After all, in North America, both Ottawa and Washington are fighting to put the oil pipeline in, and we all know that they might wait patiently for 2016 even IF Obama refuses to cave.

The bottom line is, Hugo did some questionable things, but they do not outweigh the good, likewise, Hugo did good thing, but we cannot allow them to be used to allow some of the methods he used.
