John Boehner, GOP SAVAGED: 'HUMILIATING FAILURE ,' 'DISASTER'

"House Republicans are the clear losers," was how ABC's Jon Karl put it. "They pushed to the brink and have nothing to show for it."

John Boehner and his House Republicans woke to a round of epically horrible press about their role in the ongoing shutdown and debt ceiling crisis. Boehner's failure to corral his members reached a peak on Tuesday when he could not persuade them to go along with a plan to end the shutdown and avert default. The resulting reaction from the media would be enough to make any Republican weep, let alone the already tear-prone speaker.

Politico called Boehner's efforts a "disaster." The Washington Post described it as a "humiliating failure," and said Boehner and his leadership colleagues had " lost all control of their majority."

An editorial from the arch-conservative Wall Street Journal board fumed about the GOP strategy, saying that the House caucus "might as well hand the Speaker's gavel to Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid" and urging Republicans to give up their fight. Things were not much better on the morning shows.

"After a shutdown that lasted 16 days, a shutdown led by House Republicans...by the end of today, those Republicans may leave with little to nothing to show for it," NBC's Peter Alexander said.

Pat Buchanan Says House Republicans SHOULD DESTROY AMERICA Over Obamacare

Brace yourselves,....the coming hate-wave is rearing its ugly face.

I never thought shit packed into a suit could pile up so high but Pat Buchanan defies physics .....

For two weeks, Republicans have kept the government shut down in an effort to force Democrats to give in to their demand that Obamacare be defunded. As the shutdown drags on, more and more Americans are negatively impacted. It also appears that Republicans are willing to allow a debt ceiling breach rather than give up on their anti-Obamacare obsession. Republicans are literally willing to destroy the country they claim to love in order to get what they want. Don’t believe it? Here’s proof.

Pat Buchanan says Republicans should destroy America.

In a column for World Net Daily published on Monday, conservative Pat Buchanan urged Republicans to burn America to the ground rather than give up their hostage-taking tactics to defund the Affordable Care Act. Buchanan referenced the Bible and compared the GOP to Samson, whom Right Wing Watch notes, “killed himself along with countless Philistines in bringing down the temple.”

“Republicans should refuse to raise the white flag and insist on an honorable avenue of retreat,” Buchanan wrote. “And if Harry Reid’s Senate demands the GOP end the sequester on federal spending, or be blamed for a debt default, the party should, Samson-like, bring down the roof of the temple on everybody’s head. This is an honorable battle lost, not a war.”

http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/buchanan-better-destroy-country-end-anti-obamacare-drive

Republicans are a dangerous threat to America.

This is how dangerous Republicans have become. They are truly the greatest domestic threat to America right now and even make foreign terrorists look tame in comparison. At this very moment, Republicans are holding America hostage and Pat Buchanan is pushing them to destroy the nation if that’s what it takes for them to get their demands met. It should be absolutely clear by now that the GOP only stands for destruction. Giving in to their demands would only let them keep doing this over and over again. They could demand virtually anything they want in return for not shooting America in the head. They are political terrorists of the highest order who don’t give a damn about America or the people anymore. Republicans no longer care about the fact that people oppose their agenda and view them poorly.

Eric Cantor BLAMED By Virginia Colleagues For PROLONGING GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

WASHINGTON -- Two Virginia congressmen fumed Tuesday about the damage being done to their state by the ongoing government shutdown and laid the blame squarely on a fellow Virginian, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R), for preventing lawmakers from voting on a bill to immediately end it. During a press conference, Democratic Reps. Gerry Connolly and Jim Moran said the shutdown has hurt Virginia more than any other state. They pointed out that more than 185,000 Virginia residents are federal employees and federal spending represents about one-third of the state's entire economy. In addition, Virginia is home to a large number of veterans who are now experiencing delays in receiving their benefits.

It's been more than two weeks since the Senate passed a "clean" funding bill to open the government, with no strings attached. Typically, any House member could call up that bill and request a vote. But on Sept. 30, on the eve of the shutdown, Republicans quietly changed the House rules so only one person can bring that bill up: Cantor. Moran said the rules change was "unprecedented" and has left Virginians, along with every one else, at the hands of Cantor to end the shutdown, even though he refuses to do so. The Senate-passed bill already has the votes to pass in the House and would be signed into law by the president, if it were allowed to get a vote.

"Hardest-hit state in the nation," Moran said. "Yet the one person holding this up is the person who represents the state capital, who is the majority leader of the House." Connolly said there's "no question" the House has the votes to pass the Senate-passed bill, which is precisely why Republicans altered the rules to prevent anyone but Cantor from bringing it up. The rules change came as part of a broader effort by GOP leaders to use the shutdown as a way to extract other concessions from Democrats.

"Our people are hurting," Connolly said. "The power all along ... has been in the hands of a Virginian. Eric Cantor. So we call on him to use that power and allow a vote to reopen the government and to stop the suffering of our fellow Virginians." Cantor spokeswoman Megan Whittemore dismissed the Democrats' complaints as them "playing politics" and said the whole point of the rules change was to force Democrats to negotiate on broader budget issues.

Antonin Scalia: 14th Amendment Protects Everyone, Not 'ONLY THE BLACKS'

This Mussolini-Facist Pig...........

During oral arguments on an affirmative action case on Tuesday, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said the 14th Amendment protects everyone, not "only the blacks."

The quote was tweeted by the New York Times' David Leonhardt:

David Leonhardt ✔ @DLeonhardt

Scalia: "The 14th Amendment protects all races" -- not "only the blacks."

2:12 PM - 15 Oct 2013

https://twitter.com/DLeonhardt

The high court debated Tuesday whether voters can ban affirmative action programs through a referendum. The case is centered around a 2006 Michigan vote that approved a ballot initiative amending the state's constitution to ban affirmative action programs in higher education. Scalia has brought race into previous arguments. In February 2013, Scalia suggested that the continuation of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act represented the "perpetuation of racial entitlement," saying that lawmakers had only voted to renew the act in 2006 because there wasn't anything to be gained politically from voting against it.

BWHAHAHAHA: Ann Coulter RIPS Liz Cheney, GOP ‘SHYSTERS’

reTHUG Cannibalism...........crunch, crunch, crunch.....

Conservative firebrand Ann Coulter lashed out at Liz Cheney for waging a primary challenge and attacked “hucksters, shysters” who she said are hijacking the GOP. “The problem is we have hucksters, shysters, people ripping off the Republican Party for their own self-aggrandizement, for their own egos, to make money,” Coulter said on Fox News’s “Hannity.”

“I would put Todd Akin, Newt Gingrich, Liz Cheney, Mark Sanford all in the same boat, and the consultants who persuaded Linda McMahon and John Raese to run,” she added. Coulter continued her criticism of Cheney, who is challenging incumbent Sen. Mike Enzi in the Republican primary for his Wyoming Senate seat that will be held next year.“Why should we be having — and I love Liz Cheney— but why should we be having a rancorous primary against a good Republican senator other than for Liz Cheney’s ego?” Coulter said.

Host Sean Hannity came to Cheney’s defense, saying the former vice president’s daughter is “more conservative.”“No, she isn’t,” Coulter responded. “But that’s the point. There are a lot problems, we are not concentrating on winning, we are allowing shysters to take advantage of the Republican Party.” “She’s not a shyster, so let’s be clear,” Hannity said.

MSNBC Host GRILLS Blackburn: ‘Do You HATE Obamacare More Than You Love YOUR COUNTRY?’

Stinkin' reTHUG shill...........

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) accused MSNBC host Thomas Roberts of making “inappropriate” comments on Tuesday after he asked if she hated President Barack Obama’s health care reform law “more than you love your country.” Following the announcement of a House Republican plan that threw a wrench in a bipartisan Senate deal to reopen the government, Roberts pointed out to Blackburn that the House was continuing to demand that part of the Affordable Care Act be repealed or delayed even after the president said the law was nonnegotiable.

“Do you hate Obamacare more than you love your country?” Roberts wondered.

“I think that comments like that, that you are making, are just incredibly inappropriate,” Blackburn replied.

“You don’t think it’s incredibly inappropriate to shut down our government and take all the hostages of Americans that you’ve taken?” Roberts pressed.

“No, no, no. It’s not inappropriate because you’ve taken the government hostage through a shutdown. And all the American people, you’re now walking them to a cliff, the economy, and you’re going to push them over, one by one, based on the fact that you don’t like the ACA. That’s all it is.”

“Listen to yourself! We didn’t want a government shutdown,” Blackburn insisted. “Just listen to the way you’re sounding. My goodness! We didn’t want a government shutdown. We don’t want a government default.”

Roberts reminded the Tennessee Republican that she had told the Economic Club of Nashville that conservative lawmakers should do “everything we can do” to derail the health care reform law, and then she praised the efforts of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).

“You have been planning a shutdown since August!” Roberts charged.

“Not at all!” Blackburn shot back. “What you are doing is so inappropriate. We didn’t want a shutdown. What we want to do is solve problems.”

'ITS NOT YOUR FAULT': Some Furloughed By Shutdown Turn To Charities For Food

Calvert County, Maryland (CNN) -- Getting out of her car, the wife of a furloughed government worker walked toward a small building full of free food. She approached the door with her head down. An attendant asked for her name, she looked up and began to sob. "It's ok, it's not your fault," the volunteer said as she wrapped her arms around the crying woman. Chesapeake Cares Food Pantry, located 30 miles from the political impasse in Washington that resulted in the shutdown, put together a food giveaway tailored to affected workers not at their jobs and not being paid. Roughly 200 people received bags of frozen meat, canned vegetables and other staples on Monday morning.

"These folks (furloughed government employees) don't know how to be poor," said Rev. Robert Hahn, the head End Hunger in Calvert County, a consortium of food pantries in the area. "These folks are fish out of water and they feel humiliated, like they have lost their dignity." This is the second offering Hahn's group has made to federal employees. Last week, the group passed out 2,700 pounds of food to 71 different families. And if the government shutdown continues, Hahn said he anticipates his group will continue this sort of offering. The shutdown that began on October 1 has impacted hundreds of thousands of federal workers and contractors in the Washington region, including people at the epicenter of the partisan shutdown showdown in Congress.
Washington-area food banks have responded to an unexpected need this fall created by the shutdown, their efforts already tested by a continued, uneven economic recovery and tough job market.

Men and women were on both sides of the help on Monday in Calvert County -- those receiving and those distributing food.
Those helping out included one person who works for the Department of Justice and another employed by the Navy.
CNN agreed not to identify furloughed workers receiving food due to a combination of their embarrassment and not wanting to hurt their employer. "Getting paid helps, but it doesn't help right now," said one, who acknowledged she'll probably get paid once the shutdown ends. Still, the woman said she is struggling to put food on the table. Some told CNN they were living paycheck to paycheck. "The biggest thing (people are feeling) is fear," said Hahn. "Even a lot of federal employees who know that they're going to get their checks made up, they're still going to be shy" if they miss a couple of pay periods.

Meet John Boehner’s New Problem. SAME As His old problem.

"..ROCK, MEET HARD PLACE!.."

The news of the morning was that Boehner’s Republican conference would put forward a series of changes — including delaying by two years the medical device tax and forcing all Members of Congress and Cabinet officials into Obamacare – to the deal to end the government shutdown and avoid the debt ceiling deadline that is being brewed in the Senate. It seemed an obvious attempt to pre-but worries among House conservatives that the Senate compromise simply wouldn’t go far enough and, in particular, wouldn’t address any of their concerns on President Obama’s health care law.

Except that after a more-than-two hour meeting with GOP members, Boeher emerged to tell the press that there was in fact no Republican House plan. “There are a lot of opinions about what direction to go,” Boehner said. ”There have been no decisions about what exactly we will do.” According to WaPo’s Lori Montgomery, Boehner’s walk-back from a plan that seemed solid enough for the White House to release an official condemnation of it was due to worries that Boehner and the Republican leadership simply couldn’t wrangle the 217 votes they needed from within their own ranks to pass it.

Sound familiar? It should. Go back to the first few days of 2013 when Boehner’s proposed “Plan B” counter-offer on the fiscal cliff couldn’t come close to winning the necessary support from his fellow House Republicans. Or when the original farm bill failed due to a revolt among the most conservative elements within the House GOP. Or when the plan backed by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (Va.) and Boehner to allow a vote to repeal Obamacare and keep the government open was tanked by, you guessed it, the same group of conservative House Republicans.

The math simply doesn’t add up — time and again for Boehner. If he loses somewhere between 30-50 Republicans on any vote viewed as a compromise with the White House and Senate Democrats, he must find somewhere between a dozen and three dozen Democratic votes to make up the difference. And, to date, Democrats have refused to throw him a political life preserver to pass just about any of these measures.

Has Ted Cruz Already Moved To QUASH Emerging Senate Deal To End The REPUBLICAN SHUTDOWN?

TRAITOR.

With multiple media outlets reporting that the Senate is nearing a deal to end the Republican shutdown, one might think, it's about damn time. Well, not so fast. Because the Godfather of this shutdown, de facto Speaker of the House and sometimes Senator Ted Cruz has jumped into action:

Sen. Ted Cruz met with roughly 15 to 20 House Republicans for around two hours late Monday night at the Capitol Hill watering hole Tortilla Coast.

The group appeared to be talking strategy about how they should respond to a tentative Senate deal to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling without addressing Obamacare in a substantive way, according to sources who witnessed the gathering. The Texas Republican senator and many of the House Republicans in attendance had insisted on including amendments aimed at dismantling Obamacare in the continuing resolution that was intended to avert the current shutdown.

If history is any guide, this is not good news for the potential deal coming together in the Senate. Mostly because the official Speaker of the House John Boehner is a coward. Boehner will be meeting with House Republicans on Tuesday morning to discuss the deal. Stay tuned.

SECRET MEETING In Restaurant Basement w Cruz & TeaParty: Will They SABOTAGE Bipartisan Negotiations?

coup d'état...

: a sudden attempt by a small group of people to take over the government usually through violence

Sources in Washington, D.C. are reporting that a group of House Republicans held a secret meeting with Sen. Ted Cruz late Monday night at Tortilla Coast, a favorite haunt of lawmakers. The group of 15-20 included: Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Steve King (R-IA), Jim Jordan (R- OH), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Raúl R. Labrador (R-ID) , Steve Southerland II (R-FL) , Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Justin Amash (R-MI). These are among the craziest most conservative members of the House. They, along with a few others, have become a collective pain in the backside for House leaders and this meeting seems to indicate that they will continue to do so.

The secret meeting was discovered by House leadership.

Though the group’s secret meeting was in the restaurant basement they were, nevertheless, spotted by leadership. Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who was also dining there with a group of House members, spotted the group. Sources say that he was very interested in what was going on. I should hope so, as these guys could really throw a wrench into current negotiations. There is a deal emerging that would reopen the government with current funding levels until January of next year and raise the debt ceiling until February. This probably is not going to be a popular idea among the Tea Party crowd in the House. For one thing, Louie Gohmert wants to try to hang the looming default around the President’s neck so he can use it as grounds for impeachment. Even though this deal would likely pass both chambers, it will certainly do so without the Tea Party folks. They would apparently like to see the U.S. default and watch as the country burns while free-falling.

What could they be planning?

This secret meeting can only fuel the suicide pact between Cruz (and his sidekick, Mike Pence) and fanatical House Republicans. After the Senator’s little riot outside the White House on Sunday, the House Reps will undoubtedly be all fired up and as stubborn as ever. Matt Fuller of Roll Call posited what Cruz and his allies in the Senate could do if this deal comes to fruition:

“… Cruz and his allies in the Senate could decide to attempt a filibuster of the deal, but doing so would likely push any Senate vote on final passage past the Thursday deadline to raise the debt ceiling. That would mean Cruz and his allies would bear the brunt of any political consequences that might come from a default, including a potential dramatic downturn in the stock market and/or the world economy. Conversely, allowing the deal to move through the Senate without a fight could cost Cruz his pugnacious conservative credentials.”

http://blogs.rollcall.com/218/ted-cruz-house-republicans-meet-in-secret-at-tortilla-coast/

It looks as though Cruz is trying desperately to make sure this deal doesn’t see the House floor or, if it does, it goes down in flames. If it doesn’t then Cruz will face the Hobson’s choice outlined by Fuller. That would put Cruz front and center in even more people’s minds as the architect of this shutdown/debt ceiling fiasco. And that is somewhere Ted Cruz does not want to be… even if it is where he belongs.
