NY Mag: Hillary's Wall Street TRUST Gap

New York magazine discusses the massive effort that Hillary Clinton is undertaking to attempt to get some progressive credentials with Wall Street. In doing so, she is trying to defend the obvious: she takes a LOT of money from Wall Street, and is very cozy with Wall Street leadership:

Rather, it seems to be an attempt to convince the left that she is really on their side. This is a candidate who has racked up millions of dollars in speaking fees from financial firms, along with millions more in campaign contributions. That is to say nothing of the money raked in by her husband. (Or the culpability-by-osmosis many progressives assign to her for the regulatory policy decisions made by Bill’s administration.) All those dollars have left her open to skepticism from progressives and to repeated broadsides from Bernie Sanders, among others. “The truth is, you can’t change a corrupt system by taking its money,” Sanders says in
" target="_blank"> one advertisement, even if he refrains from saying Clinton’s name.

Clinton has thus far not always responded elegantly or convincingly to the charge that she’s on Wall Street’s side. During the Democratic debate in Iowa, Sanders lambasted her over her Wall Street cash: “Let’s not be naive about it," he said. "Over her political career, why has Wall Street been a major, the major campaign contributor to Hillary Clinton? Now, maybe they're dumb and they don't know what they're going to get, but I don't think so."

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2015/12/hillarys-wall-street-trust-gap.html?mid=twitter_nymag

Actions speak louder than words, and a couple of shout-outs by progressives doesn’t change your record. Bernie Sanders has NO record of selling out to Wall Street, or ANYONE. Hillary, not so much. It’s hard to say you’re fighting the 1% when you’re allies with them.

Killer Mike DISCUSSES Marijuana And Gun Control With Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders

Check Out Killer Mike's Six-Part Teaser Interviews With Bernie Sanders

Killer Mike previewed his interview with Bernie Sanders on Instagram today (December 14). The Run the Jewels rapper says the full interview will be released tomorrow (December 15).

The conversation took place at Killer Mike's SWAG Shop barbershop in Atlanta. The two discuss social security, marijuana and gun control.

"The federal Controlled Substance Acts, says that schedule one drug, marijuana is the same as heroin. What do you think about that?" Bernie Sanders asks in of Killer Mike's preview clips.

"I'm a marijuana smoker. That's absolute bullshit," Killer Mike says.

Killer Mike introduced the presidential candidate last month at a rally in Atlanta.

Media Blackout BOMBS As Bernie Sanders Has MORE SUPPORT Than Every GOP Candidate In Iowa

Network news has chosen to ignore Sen. Bernie Sanders, but his message is spreading across the country. The message can’t be stopped, and it is the reason why the messenger from Vermont has more support than all of the Republican presidential candidates in Iowa.

The media has been blacking out the message of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, but the numbers don’t lie. Sanders has more support in Iowa than every single Republican presidential candidate. In the new Iowa Poll released by the Des Moines Register and Bloomberg Politics, Sen. Bernie Sanders had eight points more support than the highest polling Republican presidential candidate. Sanders trailed Hillary Clinton 48%-39% in the latest poll, but his level of support was eight points higher than Ted Cruz (31%) and ten points higher than media darling Donald Trump (21%). Sen. Sanders has nearly twice the level of support that Trump has in Iowa but has gotten thirty times less coverage on the network news broadcasts. Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver said, “We have come a long way in Iowa since we were at 5 percent in the same poll last January and very few people knew who Bernie Sanders was or what he stood for. This poll shows there is a very clear path to victory in Iowa.”

Bernie Sanders has come a long way in a very short period of time. His 80% approval rating trails Hillary Clinton by two points and President Obama by seven points. Sanders has quickly risen to be one of the most popular figures within the Democratic Party. The Sanders approval rating is higher than all of the Republican presidential candidates. Sanders’ approval rating is seven points higher than Ted Cruz(73%), ten points higher than Marco Rubio (70%), and 22 points higher than Donald Trump (58%). The network news decision to ignore the presidential campaign of Bernie Sanders has been a major miscalculation. Sanders has developed into one of the most popular candidates in the entire country, and he exponentially more popular than every single Republican contender that the nightly news broadcasts on ABC, NBC, and CBS waste their airtime on.

WHY Bernie Sanders Will Lose In Every Major Poll But Still Become POTUS

PBS NewsHour:

".....If the American electorate allows pollsters to craft a narrative that Hillary Clinton, who is untrusted and untrustworthy, is the clear nominee for the Democratic ticket, then that will become reality. This is where pushback, non-complacency and near-militant calling out of bullshit blanket statements are vital...."

If you look at how the business of polling is conducted, you find that it’s much like economics, or sausage making. You can do whatever you want with what you’ve got to achieve basically whatever end result you ultimately desire. These days, polling statistics are often turned upside down and made so confusing that they become undecipherable, twisted to benefit either those who have an ax to grind, or those who already have a conclusion they simply wish to reinforce. The PBS NewsHour video (above) explains how modern day polling “works” or not. When you see how a poll is created, think about Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign and his grassroots support base. It becomes instantly understandable why he doesn’t register with traditional/major polls, and why he won’t in the future. Then consider the fact that the mainstream media is furiously trying to quell the political revolution Bernie has created, and it becomes a perfect storm. But let’s get back to the pollsters….

As the PBS story explains, polls are often conducted by phone, as in phones attached to a wall in your house, aka “landlines.” Many readers probably don’t even know what a landline is, let alone do they actually have one. If landline polling is conducted, the only respondents are going to be old people who actually bother to answer a landline phone call from an unknown number. Does that represent a) young people, b) poor people, c) most of the electorate? It does not. Even when polling companies pay to call a cellphone number (and then have to literally dial the numbers themselves…no auto dialing) we run up against a wall. How many people answer a phone call from a number they aren’t familiar with? Not many. I’ll tell you, anecdotally, that my daughter worked as a volunteer for Allison Grimes’ campaign against Mitch “The Turtle” McConnell and it involved cold calling people. Very, very few people ever answered. If they did answer, they didn’t want to participate in the conversation. Ultimately, the campaign, like most campaigns and organizations, winnow down the list of possible respondents to only older people because young people just don’t want any part of it and it’s a waste of time and money. Again, think of Bernie’s supporters. How many of them are “reachable,” even by the most sophisticated and well-funded polling companies? In my household, there is a landline (which I don’t answer) and three cellphones going to 3 registered Democrats. How many phone calls have we received, ever, from a pollster? Zero. Not one. Ever. If someone had tried, we’d never know because no one wants to answer an unknown number. I think we’re pretty typical of most Americans.

Even the biggest, richest polling companies, like Gallup, cannot hardly reach anyone who supports Bernie Sanders – young voters, minorities, middle age voters, anyone who isn’t going to respond to an anonymous internet interaction or to an “unknown caller” phone call. The only way to get an accurate “read” on his support would be through “boots on the ground.” And I’m not talking about military action. It’s more like Doc Martens on the ground. One of the mainstream media’s most cited polling companies, Real Clear Politics polling, is an aggregator of data, which makes their whole “process” so tortured, contrived, and suspect as to be completely and utterly useless. The Harvard University’s Institute of Politics recently released a poll of their own, with a much more intense and deliberative methodology, which showed Bernie Sanders leading Hillary Clinton among Millennials (18-29 years old) by 6 percentage points. A poll which was buried pretty deep on many mainstream media websites with the exception of the one result about putting troops in direct battle against ISIS.

CHRISTMAS CAROLING for Bernie

It may be cold outside but the thought of a President Sanders warms my heart

Do any of you ever go Christmas caroling? If so, here’s an idea. Christmas Caroling for Bernie. I wouldn’t go house-to-house, but rather in a high traffic area next week — especially Friday night. You could carol for Bernie and remind folks of the debate scheduled for the following evening. And what songs would you sing? Why the ones from the Bard for Bernie Facebook Page.

[
Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

Oh those bailouts for banks are frightful,

Wall Street Crooks are so indictful,

But since they give Clintons dough,

Let ‘em grow, let ‘em grow let ‘em grow.

It doesn’t show signs of ceasing,

Cuts in taxes keep increasing,

Seems Hillary can’t say no,

Let ‘em grow, let ‘em grow, let ‘em grow.

May we finally understand,

Just what forces are really in charge,

Wall Street shysters are in command,

Thousands of crooks are at large!

We’ve cancelled all regulating,

While our middle class is fading,

Our incomes are oh so low,

But let ‘em grow, let ‘em grow, let ‘em grow.

Bernie Sanders Has A HABIT Of Always Being Right

Portsmouth Herald
111 New Hampshire Ave.
Portsmouth, New Hampshire 03801

Posted Dec. 11, 2015 at 2:01 AM

To the Editor:

Why not elect the idea guy behind Hillary’s campaign? Throughout her candidacy, Hillary has taken her time sharing her positions with us. When she finally takes a position it’s a watered down version of a position Bernie has come out with months, years, even decades earlier. She clearly recognizes that Bernie’s message is reaching us and that it’s resonating.

Faced with a choice between adapting or sinking like a rock, she adapts. Not an easy decision when your top donors are the very same banks and investment companies Bernie’s platform will inevitably challenge. Is she misleading her donors or misleading us?

Forget about that question for a minute but don’t forget it.

Hillary’s listening to him now. She should have listened to him in 2003 when he told the nation what he feared would happen if we went to war in Iraq. Instead she voted for war. Everything Bernie predicted happened. To her credit, she says the vote was a mistake. Oops.

Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan should have listened to him back in 1992 when he stood on the congressional floor and predicted the financial collapse we would experience if we continued in the direction Greenspan was taking us. The collapse happened and during a congressional hearing in 2008, Greenspan had to admit he was using a financial model that was flawed. He’d been using it, he said, for the past forty years.

They should have listened to him decades ago. We should listen to him now. Try it on, it fits.

This February, let’s vote for the guy who sees it before it happens instead of reacting to it after it’s too late. Let’s vote for the “unelectable” guy who hasn’t lost an election for 25 years.

COMPARING Hillary's and Bernie's DFA Endorsement Pitches

Democracy for America is conducting a presidential endorsement poll. All 3 Dems are given a chance to make their case. O’Malley hasn’t had his turn yet. UPDATE: his just came in, see below. The difference in their language really struck me. As a songwriter, I know that it’s not the nouns or verbs or even adjectives that really define a lyric, it’s the pronouns. Hillary uses “I”, “me”, or “my” in almost every single sentence. Bernie uses those words far less, and uses “we” and “us” far more.

Here’s the link if you want to vote in the poll:

http://2016.democracyforamerica.com/

Voting closes on Dec 15th, and they will only endorse if one candidate gets over 2/3 of the vote. (Bernie got 83% IIRC in the Working Families Party poll, so this is quite possible.)

Hillary’s pitch:

I want to thank you for your involvement in Democracy for America, and for taking the time to be thoughtful and engaged in our democracy. I'm excited for all that we're going to accomplish together during the course of this campaign, and I'm really looking forward to all the good we can do if I'm elected president.

I've said before that I'm a progressive who likes to get things done. So I want to talk to you about the things I'd like to accomplish in the White House.

First, I'll work to make sure all Americans are treated fairly -- no matter what you look like, where you live, or who you love. I'm going to fight hard for racial justice in this country: The first speech of my campaign was about ending mass incarceration, and I want to require body cameras for every police force in America. I support a pathway to citizenship for immigrants. I want to make sure everyone earns equal pay -- an issue that disproportionately affects women of color. And I'll work to make sure LGBT Americans finally have equal protection under the law, especially trans Americans, whose needs are too often ignored.

I'm going to raise wages for the middle class. I believe this is the defining challenge of our time. I'm the only Democrat in this race who's pledged not to raise taxes on families making less than $250,000 per year, and I have a comprehensive plan to grow small businesses, make health care and college more affordable, and give employees a chance to share in their companies' profits just like shareholders do.

If you agree that we need to strengthen the middle class, stand with me: Ask DFA to endorse me by casting your vote in their 2016 Presidential Endorsement Poll now.

cont'

Bernie’s pitch

As I travel across the country, I am constantly struck by the level of enthusiasm to do something about the rising levels of income inequality in this country, providing health care for all Americans, criminal justice reform, and reclaiming our democracy from a billionaire class buying candidates and elections.

This is not a time to think small. What is required in this moment is a political revolution that takes back our democracy from establishment politicians and the billionaire class. But that can only happen if we stand together. If we do, we will win. If we are divided, the big money interests win.

That’s why I want to thank you for your vote and your support in winning DFA’s endorsement. If we’re going to win, your participation will be critical, especially in getting your friends to vote. Please share DFA’s important poll on Facebook now with others who support our campaign.

Elections should be determined by the power of good ideas, not who can hustle the most money from the rich and powerful. They should be about the issues that impact the lives of ordinary Americans -- not the day-to-day soap operas of campaign staffers, personal emails or fluctuations in the polls. I know that you agree.

In the meantime, let me be very blunt and tell you why I am running.

This country faces more serious problems today than at any time in modern history, and establishment politics will not successfully resolve them.

Corporate greed is rampant, and the very rich keep growing richer while everyone else grows poorer. Despite an explosion in technology and a huge increase in productivity, the middle class continues to disappear, most Americans work longer hours for lower wages, and 45 million live in poverty.

cont'

Martin’s pitch:

My name is Martin O'Malley -- I'm the former Mayor of Baltimore and the former Governor of Maryland. I'm a life-long Democrat who is running for President to rebuild the truth of the American dream that you and I share and to build upon the progress made under President Barack Obama.

With fifteen years of executive experience, I have learned how to be a very effective leader. I have learned how to get things done. In Maryland, I made it easier -- not harder -- for workers to bargain collectively for better wages for all of us. Instead of cutting public education funding, we made our public schools the best public schools in America for five years in a row.

As governor, I brought people together to pass the Dream Act, to pass Marriage Equality, and to pass the most comprehensive gun safety legislation in the nation with background checks and a ban on the sale of combat assault weapons!

As a member of Democracy for America, you are part of an organized, grassroots movement that believes our country best moves forward when progressives are elected up and down the ticket. You grew tired of politicians who talked a big game, but were never able to deliver because they were beholden to powerful special interests.

Talking about progressive ideas on the campaign trail is one thing. Taking action when elected is what really matters, and I have proven that I am able to do so, while achieving progressive results.

Democracy for America represents the best of our Democratic Party -- and that's exactly why I'm asking for your vote in DFA's 2016 Presidential Endorsement Poll.

Over the summer, I put forward 15 goals to rebuild the American Dream. I want to make the option of debt free college a reality within 5 years, expand Social Security, move America forward to a 100% clean electric energy grid by 2050, and create 5 million new jobs along the way.

Bernie Sanders Leverages Boston App Maker To RALLY SUPPORTERS

Thousands of Bernie Sanders supporters across the country are rallying around a mobile app made by Boston-based startup Bullseye and tailored to the presidential candidate's campaign. The iOS and Android mobile app, called Rally, has roughly 5,000 Sanders supporters who use it to collaborate on campaign events, stay informed about event news and chat with other supporters near them. The app was released in November.

Courtesy Rally

"We've built it so that campaign coordinators can send push notifications to certain regions and states for special announcements and they can have that direct line of communication," said Bullseye co-founder and CEO Zachary Robinson. "One of the goals for the app is to turn more passive supporters into more active volunteers."

Campaign organizers for Sanders, the Vermont Democrat and presidential candidate for 2016, are also trying to use the mobile app to reach the hundreds of thousands of supporters who have donated money to the campaign, Robinson said. Robinson previously ran a small design firm in Boston where he worked on mobile products for early-stage startups. He founded Bullseye in February and also released a stocks-focused mobile app that allowed users to track their investments.

He saw a need in the market for a politically focused mobile app that would help supporters of political candidates become cohesive. Robinson is gathering feedback about the mobile app from supporters on the Sanders campaign.
