BWHAHAHAHAHA: Illinois Guv Candidate Says Bunking With Assistant Was 'Cost-Saving Measure'

BWHAHAHA...Another Republican 'Family-Values' turd with a cost-saving excuse.......

Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford regularly stayed overnight in hotels and a Chicago apartment with his executive assistant, The Chicago Tribune reported on Wednesday. Rutherford, who is also a Republican candidate for governor, told the Tribune the practice was a way to save money during campaign travel. "We double-bunk in the campaign," Rutherford told the newspaper. "We always double-bunk when we can. Totally as a cost-saving measure."

The news of Rutherford's rooming practices comes the same week that he was sued for sexual harassment by a former top deputy in his office. The former employee, Edmund Michalowski, on Monday filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing Rutherford of sexually harassing him and "pressuring him to perform political work on state time," according to the Tribune. Among other things, Michalowski accused Rutherford of repeatedly "hitting on" him. Rutherford has denied the accusations.

According to the Tribune, Rutherford and his executive assistant, Joshua Lanning, stayed together in a studio apartment in Chicago at least 50 times between 2011 and mid-2012. During that period, the two also billed the state for at least six hotel rooms they stayed in while traveling on state business. Lanning also accompanied Rutherford on three foreign trips he has taken as state treasurer, as well as on a private trip to Australia to visit Rutherford's nephew.

"There's nothing wrong with being friends with employees," Rutherford said. "I consider myself friends with many in the office. Rutherford said he had not shared a room with any employees besides Lanning, who began working for him in 2009. Lanning became Rutherford's executive assistant in 2011, and has since received a 50 percent bump in pay, which Rutherford explained by saying that Lanning had taken on additional duties.

Democrat BLASTS Irrational Federal Government For SPREADING MISINFORMATION About Marijuana

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) on Tuesday railed against the nation’s “dishonest” federal marijuana laws, describing them as a symbol of government irrationality at its worst.“During a hearing with the deputy director of the Office of Drug Policy, there was a moment of clarity for me,” he said the House floor. “I was struck by the realization that our own office, charged with drug policy, discouraging or eliminating drug use, might well be part of the problem.” Last week," target="_blank"> the congressman asked the deputy director of the White House’s Office of Drug Policy whether marijuana was more dangerous than methamphetamine. He also inquired as to the number of marijuana overdose deaths. But the deputy director would not give him an answer.

“Why is the $25 billion we spend fighting drugs each year so ineffective in stopping, much less reversing, the trend? Are our policies and programs misguided?” Blumenauer remarked. “I think part of the problem is that we aren’t honest about the impacts and dangers. Nothing better illustrates that than the continued misclassification of marijuana under federal law as worse than cocaine and methamphetamines. That’s according to federal law.”

The federal Controlled Substance Act classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug, while cocaine and methamphetamine are both classified as Schedule II drugs. “Is it possible that this federal dishonesty means that people don’t take drug warnings seriously?” the congressman continued. “No one knows anybody who ever died from a marijuana overdose. The failed marijuana prohibition could actually make the real drug problem worse.”

Krystal Ball To Hillary Clinton: DON'T RUN, HILLARY!

BAM!!!......

MSNBC’s Krystal Ball gave a compelling case against Hillary Clinton running for President of the US in 2016. As a supporter of Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama, it was evident her conclusion pained her.

“Back in 2008, when all my peers were jumping on the Obama bandwagon, I backed Hillary,” Krystal Ball said. “The country was reeling from a disastrous eight years of President George W. Bush.”

Krystal Ball goes on to describe an America that is dissatisfied with the direction of the country. She says 67% of the country is dissatisfied with the country’s wealth distribution. Krystal Ball’s most damning statement about a Hillary Clinton run in 2016 is rather devastating.

It’s clear now that we have two economies. One for a thin slice of educated elites. And one for everyone else. That is this moment. So I ask you. Does Hillary Clinton sound to you like the right person for this moment?

In a time when corporations have hijacked our politics, enabling them to reap all the profit without feeling any compunction to do right by their workers; Is someone who sat on the rabidly anti-union board of Walmart for six years the right person to restore workers’ rights?

In a time when we are still reeling from a global financial disaster brought on by fool hearted bank deregulation; Is someone who took $400,000 to give two speeches at Goldman Sachs the person we need to wrest control of the asylum back from the banking inmates? Someone who at those paid speeches reassured the masters of the universe in attendance that they were unfairly being persecuted? That in her words, “banker-bashing … was unproductive and indeed foolish?” Someone whose husband by the way did much of the deregulating that got us into trouble in the first place?

A Libertarian Republican like Rand Paul could justifiably run an appealing populist message against Hillary Clinton. That message would take hold especially with the current state of the working poor and the working middle class.

New Bridgegate Subpoenas FOCUS On BILL BARONI's Testimony

"..The subpoena issued to the campaign also seeks any correspondence between the campaign and Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich going back to April of last year, Sheridan confirmed..."

Sounds like they're looking to see if Port Authority exec director Bill Baroni's testimony before the state assembly committee was coordinated (and possibly untruthful). I'll bet they find something:

A newly issued subpoena in the ongoing George Washington Bridge investigation seeks information related to a former Port Authority official's November testimony before the committee investigating the controversy, an attorney for one of the subpoenaed groups confirmed Tuesday.

The subpoena, issued yesterday by the joint legislative committee, seeks any drafts of former Port Authority Deputy Executive Director Bill Baroni's November testimony, any edits to it, or correspondence with Baroni prior to the appearance, attorney Mark Sheridan confirmed Tuesday. Sheridan represents Gov. Chris Christie's reelection campaign, which has been subpoenaed by both the committee and the U.S. Attorney.

Baroni appeared before the committee on November 25, telling members during his testimony that the lane diversions ordered by the agency during the second week of September were done in order to study the effect on traffic at the bridge if two of three local lanes were diverted for highway use.

Baroni was not under oath at the time, and email traffic that surfaced after his testimony showed no evidence of a study but instead suggest the diversions were politically motivated. Democrats have said Baroni was not truthful with the committee and are seeking to determine who helped him prepare his testimony.

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow first reported the request for information about Baroni's testimony and citing a source close to the investigation said all 18 subpoenas issued yesterday seek the same information.

The subpoena issued to the campaign also seeks any correspondence between the campaign and Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich going back to April of last year, Sheridan confirmed.

It's not clear why the committee is seeking correspondence with Sokolich, however the mayor has speculated that the lane diversions were punishment for his refusal to endorse Christie in his bid for reelection. Christie has denied that Sokolich was on the campaign's radar and said he was never told the endorsement was being sought.

Sokolich has said he was courted for an endorsement by former Christie campaign staffer Matt Mowers.

Rachel Maddow: Key Question in Republican Chris Christie Investigation- ‘WHO DRAFTED THE COVER-UP?’

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow reported on Tuesday that each of the 18 new subpoenas issued to appointees, allies and staffers for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) concerns — at least in part — the debunked explanation that the September 2013 lane closures at the George Washington Bridge were part of a traffic study.

“The legislature is subpoenaing all these people at the Port Authority, all these lower-level people who work at the governor’s staff, and his governor’s office, and his campaign again, all looking for, who helped draft the cover-up?” Maddow said.

Maddow explained that the subpoenas issued by a state legislative committee to Christie’s office, his re-election campaign, members of his legal counsel staff, and various members of both the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and his administration all ask for drafts of the Nov. 2013 testimony by former Port Authority deputy executive director Bill Baroni concerning the closures.

At the time, Baroni told lawmakers that his agency was watching the effects of the closures on local traffic, and that no harm was being done to emergency services in nearby Fort Lee, New Jersey. But, as Maddow reported, that was not true. Baroni resigned less than a month after delivering his testimony. “Were any of these people, were any of these offices, in on it?” Maddow asked. “Was the governor’s campaign in on it, was the governor’s office in on it?”

Pro-LGBT Olympics Commercial From Norway Is AWESOME

he Norwegian clothing company XXL, which sells sports and outdoor clothing, is the latest company to express support for Russia’s oppressed LGBT community. The short, but eye-catching commercial debuted during the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics, in Sochi, Russia.

The commercial features legendary Norwegian athletes.

The underlying message of the commercial? It doesn’t matter which ‘team you play for.’ It’s a great message that uses a sports theme to highlight an important human rights issue. Set in an airport, the commercial features great music and awesome special effects. If that’s not enough, XXL brought together some of the country’s most talented and popular athletes, to make cameo appearances in the 90 second spot.

2010 Freestyle Football World Champion, Anders Solum, can be seen showing off his skills with what we Americans like to call a soccer ball. Solum’s performance begins at the 15 second mark. Also making an appearance is Sune Wentzel, a Norwegian Frisbee player. Wentzel holds six world titles and set two world records for indoor distance. He also won a number of medals and titles, before retiring from the sport. Sune makes a brief appearance beginning at around the 50 second mark.

Alpine skier, Edward Beach and other well known Norwegian athletes also have brief appearances in the ad.

Man SHOUTS About Jesus While SMASHING LAPD CAR In Front Of Darth Vader

Los Angeles police arrested an unidentified man on Tuesday for allegedly smashing his way into several cars, including a patrol vehicle, from which he grabbed a laptop before apparently using it just feet away.

KTLA-TV reported that the man smashed a piece of metal against the patrol car’s windows, screaming, “I love Jesus Christ,” as witnesses — including a person dressed as Star Wars character Darth Vader — look on, before dropping the pipe, reaching into the car, and grabbing the laptop.

He then takes the laptop to a booth near the car and attempts to use it. KTLA also filmed officers taking the man into custody. L.A. Weekly reported that the man also allegedly bashed the rear windows on three other cars. Police believe he picked the metal up at a nearby construction site.

Former Bush Adviser: McConnell Will Be OUT OF OFFICE Next Year

Is the Republican establishment starting to wonder if Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will survive re-election this year? Christian Whiton, a former State Department adviser under President George W. Bush, predicted he'll lose his seat. (In recent years, Whiton has written a book about foreign policy and repeatedly appeared in conservative media.

With McConnell unlikely to return to the Senate next year, who will the Republican leader be?

McConnell is facing Kentucky businessman Matt Bevin in the Republican primary, whom some prominent tea party activists are rallying around. The presumptive Democratic nominee is Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, who is in a statistic dead heat with the unpopular McConnell, according to several recent polls. But McConnell has raised much more money than his opponents and will be very difficult to unseat.

Tea Party Group Pushes To UNSEAT BOEHNER After Debt Ceiling SURRENDER

Aaaw,....the little orange is getting squeezed..............

The outside tea party-aligned group Senate Conservatives Fund is calling for House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to be replaced in response to House Republican leadership's decision to push a clean debt ceiling hike. The powerful outside group's call came in an email to supporters on Tuesday, shortly after House Republicans announced that they would give up on previous demands for a debt ceiling extension and instead support a clean hike. In the email Senate Conservatives Fund Executive Director Matt Hoskins wrote:

Republicans are giving up because they know that winning is impossible when their leaders are determined to lose. These leaders have telegraphed weakness to the Democrats and sabotaged conservative efforts so many times that Republicans now have no leverage. There's only one solution.

John Boehner must be replaced as Speaker of the House.

Hoskins goes on to warn that Republicans will never have any leverage if Boehner stays as Speaker. "Unless we install a new leader who will actually go on offense, Democrats will never fear us and we will never have any leverage," Hoskins continued in the email. The group has previously accused Boehner of aggressively targeting conservatives.

LOL!!- Tea Party’s Senator Rubio AGAINST Relaxing Pot Laws But WON'T ANSWER IF HE SMOKED POT

"..Rubio finally told the reporter: “The answer to your question is: at this point, it’s irrelevant...”

Hmm,....does me think that the Teabagger water-boy is hiding something?.....

I can smoke, but you can’t.

That’s the message being sent by Florida Republican Sen. Mark Rubio, an opponent of decriminalizing marijuana, who refused to answer questions about his own pot use Monday. At an education forum in Miami, Sen. Rubio brushed off a question about medical marijuana, which Florida residents will vote on in November. His answer left open the question of whether he smoked weed.

“..I’ll tell you why I never answer that question,” the Florida Republican told a talk show host. ”If I tell you that I haven’t, you won’t believe me. And if I tell you that I did, then kids will look up to me and say, ‘Well, I can smoke marijuana because look how he made it..’”

But that was only the beginning of his response. The senator kept on, as summed up by Warren Rojas of Roll Call:

His “Reefer Madness”-style prognosticating picked up speed from there, zigzagging from the past — “Now, when I was 17 and 18 and 16, I made dumb decisions as is. I didn’t need the help of marijuana or alcohol to further that,” he shared — to the present (“The bottom line is that it is a substance that alters your mind”) and even off into the future — “When you go interview for that job, and that thing pops up in your background check that you got arrested for something dumb, they don’t look at you and say, ‘Ahh, you were just 17.’ There are people who won’t get hired because of that stuff,” he counseled — almost as if the junior Florida senator had gotten used to slipping in and out of the time-space continuum at will.

Rubio elicited a few chuckles whilst raising alarms about how getting pinched for pot might burn bridges further down the road.

“There are bars that will give you a tough — not drinking bars, legal bars, the Florida bar — that won’t let you [in] because of those issues,” Rubio warned aspiring attorneys.
