WATCH: Samuel L. Jackson MISTAKEN For Laurence Fishburne By KTLA Anchor

"...KTLA anchor confuses Samuel L. Jackson with Laurence Fishburne..."

KTLA anchor Sam Rubin stepped in a ton of doo doo. He had an interview with one of the stars of the new “Robocop” remake, and confused one black actor, Samuel L. Jackson, with another black actor, Laurence Fishburne.

“Working for Marvel, the Super Bowl commercial,” Sam Rubin asked. “Did you get a lot of reaction to that Super Bowl commercial?”

“What Super Bowl Commercial?” Samuel L. Jackson asked.

“My mistake.” Sam Rubin replied.

“You see what, you’re as crazy as the people on Twitter,” Samuel L. Jackson said. “I’m not Laurence Fishburne.”

Then, Samuel L. Jackson then continued rubbing it in.

“We don’t all look alike,” Samuel L. Jackson said. “We may be all black and famous but all don’t look alike. … You are the entertainment reporter for this station and you don’t know the difference between me and Laurence Fishburne? … I am the ‘what’s in your wallet’ black guy. He is ‘the car’ black guy.”

After rubbing it a bit more they got down to the interview. But Samuel L. Jackson had to get one more slap in when Sam Rubin referenced the director and cast.

“You do know who they all are though, right?” Samuel L. Jackson said. “Just in case they have some of them on the show, do your homework. Do your research. Make sure you don’t confuse them with those other white actors.”

One had to feel sorry for Sam Rubin but he took the flogging like a good sport. Later he gave a heartfelt apology.

CHRISTIE BRIDGE SCANDAL: Panel Looking Into Whether Governor FLEW In Helicopter OVER FORT LEE

"...Sources in Christie's office told the Post the governor took a ferry to Ground Zero from Jersey City on the anniversary of Sept. 11 and flew back to Trenton, but Wildstein was not on board..."

TRENTON — The state legislative committee investigating the George Washington Bridge scandal is looking into whether Gov. Chris Christie flew in a state helicopter over Fort Lee at the time of last year's controversial lane closures, according to a source with knowledge of the probe. The source, who is not authorized to speak about the investigation, requested anonymity. The panel may issue a new set of subpoenas after meeting today, and that could include a request for Christie's helicopter logs, the source said. Lawmakers are also investigating whether the Republican governor flew with then-Port Authority official David Wildstein, the former Christie ally who is credited with orchestrating the controversial closings, according to a report by The New York Post.

- This isn't the first time Christie has faced questions over his helicopter use. Two years ago, he came under fire for frequently flying in State Police helicopters, including one instance when he traveled in one from his son's baseball game to a meeting.

KOCH/FOX Aiming To Take Alan Grayson OUT-- JONI To The RESCUE?

Blue America launches a Joni Mitchell contest to help raise some campaign cash for Grayson's reelection in the very expensive Orlando media market to combat Koch's and Fox News attacks.

Last week, the Washington Post reported that the Koch brothers are already pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into ads meant to demonize Alan Grayson and defeat him in November. Fox "News" is targeting him again as well. That these powerful entities are shoveling their vast resources towards Grayson's defeat is good news… Because it proves he's succeeding at the job we sent him to Congress to do! Today, Blue America is launching a Joni Mitchell contest to help raise some campaign cash for Grayson's reelection in the very expensive Orlando media market. Grayson also requested that we ask our donors to give to Lee Rogers at the same time, a friend and political ally running a tough campaign to win the seat Buck McKeon is giving up just north of L.A. "I like Lee Rogers," Grayson explained. "But that’s not why I’m asking you to support his run for Congress."

I respect Lee Rogers, because he is the doctor who founded and directed the Amputation Prevention Center, and reduced amputations by 72%. But that’s not why I’m asking you to support his run for Congress.

I know that we need a progressive doctor like Lee Rogers in Congress, to help Drs. Ami Bera and Raul Ruiz (D-CA) counter the demented ravings of Drs. Paul Broun (R-Paleolithic), Scott DesJarlais (R-Patient Dating), Michael Burgess (R-Fetal Wanking) and Larry Bucshon (R-Guns). But that’s not why I’m asking you to support Lee Rogers’s run for Congress.

I’m asking you to support Lee Rogers for Congress, because we have to win a seat like his to turn the U.S. House of Representatives blue.

…Please contribute to the Lee Rogers for Congress campaign today. Every dollar counts, because every person counts.

Do it for Nancy Pelosi, to make Nancy-- the first female Speaker of the House-- Speaker once more. Do it for me, so that I can push through all of our legislation for justice, equality and peace. Do it for yourself and the people you love, so that all of us can enjoy the blessings of good government.

https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/page/joni?REFCODE=Feb10CnL

This time we're running the "contest" a little differently. The basic rules are the same: just contribute any amount to Alan and Lee on this special Joni Mitchell page-- or, if you're strapped for cash and want a chance to win, send us a post card telling us so at P.O. Box 27201, Los Angeles, CA 90027. What makes this contest different is that we're giving away 4 Joni Mitchell art prints (18" x 24&quot and Grayson suggested that we choose four random winners! Everyone has a lot better chance to win one of the rare, collectible Joni prints-- four times better-- that have never been offered for sale for any amount of money.

Christie's Dem Challenger: HILLARY 'Wrote Me A Nice Letter — AFTER I LOST.'

“...Hillary Clinton wrote me a nice letter — after I lost...”

Former New Jersey state Sen. Barbara Buono offered some harsh words in an interview published Monday about Hillary Clinton and other fellow Democrats who she said abandoned her as she ran last year against Gov. Chris Christie (R).

“Hillary Clinton wrote me a nice letter — after I lost,” Ms. Buono said, pointing out that the potential Democratic standard-bearer did nothing to support the candidacy of the party’s first female nominee for governor of New Jersey. (“You and I are no strangers to the challenges of seeking and holding public office,” read the letter, signed, “Hillary.”) “The vice president called me directly — after I lost.” Senator Cory Booker, the New Jersey star? “No no no. No, no,” she said. “I didn’t get help from a lot of people, and he was one of them.”

The list is rife. Patrick Gaspard, the former White House political director and Democratic National Committee executive director, promised help but did not deliver. The committee’s chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, “came at the very end and it was like you were at a funeral, she was just not very encouraging.” When Ms. Buono asked the chairwoman to send out an email from her fund-raising list, Ms. Wasserman Schultz suggested she would and then “didn’t even do that; isn’t that sad?” (Ms. Wasserman Schultz has since gone on the Christie warpath, following the governor around the country and telling reporters: “Chris Christie has a culture of intimidation and retribution in his office. It was directed at his own constituents.”)

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/11/nyregion/amid-christie-scandal-buono-says-some-democrats-have-buyers-remorse.html

She said she watched Mr. Christie’s 108-minute-long news conference on January 9 with her daughter but had a hard time sticking with it. “He is a fraud, a charlatan,” she said. (Mr. Christie’s office declined to respond.) And she confesses bewilderment about the national Democratic strategy of demanding Mr. Christie step down. “He should stay, right, there!” she said, smacking the table for emphasis. “Stand next to all these candidates who are running for governor in 2014. Of course they won’t stand next to him anymore. It is a little comical.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/11/nyregion/amid-christie-scandal-buono-says-some-democrats-have-buyers-remorse.html

In the interview with the New York Times, Buono spoke with some bitterness about a "nice letter" she received from Clinton after the election was over. “Hillary Clinton wrote me a nice letter — after I lost,” Buono said. According to the Times, Clinton's letter to Buono said, "You and I are no strangers to the challenges of seeking and holding public office."

Buono also said she received a phone call from Vice President Joe Biden after losing to Christie. She also called out New Jersey's most prominent Democrat, U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D). "No no no. No, no," said Buono. "I didn’t get help from a lot of people, and he was one of them."

Commerce Sec. Penny Pritzker: Time To UPGRADE NAFTA With TPP

"..If Penny Pritzker's for it, you should be against it..."

I'd almost forgotten that noted union buster and payday lender Penny Pritzker was Obama's commerce secretary, and there couldn't be a more enthusiastic booster for the TPP than Miss Moneybags and the many, many corporate interests behind it. That's sort of our rule of thumb for knowing how dangerous it it:

(Reuters) - The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and other U.S. trade relationships are outdated and need an "upgrade", U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker said on Tuesday during a trade visit to Mexico.

Attitudes toward labor and the environment as well as e-commerce and new technology have shifted trade concerns since NAFTA was signed, so the U.S. government is focusing on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which would establish a free-trade bloc stretching from Vietnam to Chile, she said.

"NAFTA was a groundbreaking agreement 20 years ago and it has served all of the North American countries well," Pritzker said of the 1994 treaty between the U.S., Mexico and Canada. "But now it's time to be looking at how can we upgrade our trade relationships."

Mexico and the U.S. are two of 12 countries negotiating the TPP, which would encompass about 800 million people and almost 40 percent of the global economy.

The Obama administration is seeking the authority to fast-track trade deals, like the TPP, to reassure the 11 other countries involved that any agreement, once signed, would not be changed later by Congress.

When asked whether there was any push to change the NAFTA agreement specifically, Pritzker replied that the administration was focused on getting TPP done.

Pritzker, a businesswoman and heiress to the Hyatt Hotel fortune who has been a prolific fundraiser for U.S. President Barack Obama, is in Mexico on a five-day trade mission along with representatives from 17 U.S. companies, ranging from railroads to the medical supply industry.

Priest Refuses Communion To Lesbian Couple At Own Mother’s Funeral Service

A Catholic priest in Missouri has denied Holy Communion to a woman at her mother’s funeral because she is in a lesbian relationship. Carol Parker and Josephine Martin were told that they would not be welcome at the funeral service after the parish priest, Father Benjamin Kneib, read about the relationship in the obituary for Parker’s mother. Both women are longstanding members of the Church, and Parker has served as a lector, a cantor and has sung in the choir. However this counted for nothing after the priest got word of Parker’s homosexuality, as she told FOX News:

“He had called me the day of the rosary and said he wouldn’t be able to give us communion because of our same-sex relationship. It was very important to me, my last opportunity to worship here at the church with her.”

Parker’s partner, Josephine Martin, chastised the priest for the capricious way he had dealt with the issue:

“To be singing in the choir and be lectors, and everything, it’s all God. He just took it away in a second. I just really don’t understand where his heart is.”

The two women have vowed never to attend the church again. Pope Francis has tried to strike a more conciliatory and less judgmental tone on issues like homosexuality. His comments have been welcome by progressive and liberal Catholics, especially when compared to the rigid and reactionary attitude of his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI. His most significant intervention came last year early in his papacy when he told a reporter:

“If someone is gay, who searches for the Lord and has goodwill, who am I to judge? The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains this very well. It says they should not be marginalized because of this (orientation) but that they must be integrated into society.”

It was not clear if these comments were a reflection of Francis’ personal opinion, or a shift in the position of the Church. What we do know for sure is that the Vatican is still a highly factional, political and bureaucratic institution. It is also an officially homophobic and sexist one. It firmly opposes same-sex marriage, the ordination of women as priests and the use of contraception.

VULTURE FUND KINGPIN Is the Top Financial Backer of Republican U.S. Sen. KELLY AYOTTE

"...Ye Shall Know Them By Their Fruits..."

Paul Singer, the billionaire head of the most aggressive vulture fund, Elliott Management, is the top financial backer of New Hampshire Republican U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte. She recently introduced legislation to sock 4 million Latinos with an average tax-hike of $1,800. Apparently, the Republican Party's "no new taxes" pledge doesn't prohibit tax-hikes against the poor -- only against the rich. Singer has an interesting background. His firm had controlled the bankrupt Delphi Auto Parts company in 2009 when U.S. taxpayers were rescuing the U.S. automotive industry. Singer's people then told the U.S. Government that if they didn't buy them off to the tune or $12.9 billion, Delphi would shutter its factories, and the U.S. auto plants of GM and Chrysler would have no steering columns and other vital parts, which would mean that the entire rescue of GM and Chrysler would fail. So, Singer's people got the money they demanded from U.S. taxpayers: U.S. auto workers took the hit instead (in addition to U.S. taxpayers).

One of Elliott Management's major investors then was Mitt Romney, the man who condemned the bailout of Chrysler and of GM, and who now walked off with "at least $15.3 million from the bailout--and a few of Romney's most important Wall Street donors made more than $4 billion. Their gains, and the Romneys', were astronomical--more than 3,000 percent on their investment," according to the great investigative journalist Greg Palast's account in the Nation, on 17 October 2012. The Wall Street Journal has called Singer "one the biggest donors in the country now to the Republican cause," at $2.3 million of his own money in 2012 alone. Additionally, he had donated more than a million dollars to the Koch brothers' bundling operation for far-right Republicans in 2011, a campaign season when the Kochs were bundling $400 million+ for Republicans. Roll Call reported, on 1 February 2014, that Paul Singer in the current political season has already given $1.25 million to the Republican Governors Association, while David Koch has given them only a paltry $250,000 -- just one-fifth as much.

Senator Ayotte's proposed bill would have increased the income taxes that undocumented workers already pay to Uncle Sam under an existing program that taxes the earnings of workers who lack a Social Security number. While Republicans admire vulture fund operators such as Singer, that Party wants to squeeze undocumented workers as hard as possible, in the hope that they'll go back to their country of origin. Senator Ayotte's bill failed to pass, however, because it was proposed to be part of the Republican Party's price for extending long-term unemployment benefits, and not enough Republicans were willing to support extending those benefits, even if undocumented workers were to take a hit from doing it. Senator Ayotte is considered to be a rising star in the Republican Party, and a possible 2016 Vice Presidential nominee. Her proposal to punish undocumented workers is thought by some to be a play for support by Republicans not only now but also looking forward to 2016.

Mother of AOL’s ‘DISTRESSED BABY’ Blasts CEO Tim Armstrong’s CORPORATE GREED

Deanna Fei, the mother of the “distressed baby” that AOL CEO Tim Armstrong blamed for cutting employee benefits, wrote a moving response on Slate this morning, in which she blasted Armstrong for blaming her daughter for corporate greed. Fei’s entire article is a must read, but her description of her family’s personal pain being used as a scapegoat for corporate greed was particularly politically relevant, as Republicans argue that people are not entitled to healthcare. (This is the inherent underpinning to the Republican policy position, or else it’s just “go die.” Neither is a public relations winner and that is why they won’t have a real discussion about healthcare other than to demonize Obamacare.)

Deanna Fei wrote,

“I take issue with how he reduced my daughter to a “distressed baby” who cost the company too much money. How he blamed the saving of her life for his decision to scale back employee benefits. How he exposed the most searing experience of our lives, one that my husband and I still struggle to discuss with anyone but each other, for no other purpose than an absurd justification for corporate cost-cutting.”

cont'

http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2014/02/tim_armstrong_blames_distressed_babies_for_aol_benefit_cuts_he_s_talking.html

Fei pointed out that on the day that Armstrong, who made $12 million dollars last year, blamed her baby for cutting employee benefits, he also gloated about having the best quarterly earnings in years.
“For me and my husband—who have been genuinely grateful for AOL’s benefits, which are actually quite generous—the hardest thing to bear has been the whiff of judgment in Armstrong’s statement, as if we selfishly gobbled up an obscenely large slice of the collective health care pie.”

The “whiff of judgment” Fei referred to is the undercurrent in the way Republicans frame the “debate” on healthcare. There is always the insinuation that anyone who wants healthcare who doesn’t already have it is being greedy and lazy. There is the assumption that people don’t need healthcare and are not entitled to it. And there is the ever present “how dare you assume your health should interfere with corporate profits” condescension. To which Fei replied that they had not set about to have a preemie in intensive care, “Yes, we had a preemie in intensive care. This was certainly not our intention. While he’s at it, why not call out the women who got cancer? The parents of kids with asthma? These rank among the nation’s most expensive medical conditions. Would anyone dare to single out these people for simply availing themselves of their health benefits?” Armstrong called Fei’s baby out because the Very Important People who run corporate entities have been allowed to believe that their bottom line is the Most Important Value in the USA.

Fei explains that they had no indication that her pregnancy was troubled. It was not a high risk pregnancy. “(W)e experienced exactly the kind of unforeseeable, unpreventable medical crisis that any health plan is supposed to cover. Isn’t that the whole point of health insurance?” No, that is the point of health insurance for the entitled. Those who are not a CEO making 12 million dollars a year are not entitled to have catastrophes that insurance helps to pay for. That is the message, because if Tim Armstrong went through this exact same scenario, no one would dare point the finger at his baby as a scapegoat for corporate greed. His baby would have “earned” the health care insurance costs by virtue of being the CEO’s baby.

CNN Breaks Mold And TELLS THE TRUTH About CBO Report

It is a forgone conclusion that Fox News would misrepresent the latest CBO report. Sadly even Chuck Todd at MSNBC was less than clear in interpreting the report. He was more concerned with how it would be interpreted. He should have been more concerned with his free press journalistic duty. Inform the population objectively.

That tweet gives a false impression. Coming from a "journalist" it does more to confuse than to inform. It must be repeated. For the most part, one should get information from reputable blogs and websites. The traditional media is useless for fact-based and accurate information.

CNN’s Carol Costello got it right in her report this week. The CBO Report said the following:

The estimated reduction stems almost entirely from a net decline in the amount of labor that workers choose to supply, rather than from a net drop in businesses’ demand for labor, so it will appear almost entirely as a reduction in labor force participation and in hours worked relative to what would have occurred otherwise rather than as an increase in unemployment (that is, more workers seeking but not finding jobs) or underemployment (such as part-time workers who would prefer to work more hours per week).

While others hyperventilated, in this instance, CNN’s Carol Costello reported. When the traditional media gets it right, we should let them know to encourage them to do the right thing.

ANOTHER Republican 2016 Hopeful BITES THE DUST As Scott Walker Appears to be UNDER INVESTIGATION

Follow the arrows to land at the fake IRS scandal perpetrated by the Republican Party in an effort to pre-emptively protect their dark money, courtesy of tax exempt “social welfare” nonprofits. Fresh on the heels of the last John Doe investigation into Gov. Scott Walker’s administration, which resulted in convictions for three former Walker aides — an appointee and a major campaign donor, comes the revelation of yet another probe surrounding the Wisconsin Republican Governor. This one centers around an anonymous campaign that is most likely Walker’s recall campaign “Friends of Scott Walker”.

According to newly-unsealed court documents, it appears that Scott Walker’s recall campaign is the focus of the “illegal campaign coordination between (name redacted), a campaign committee, and certain special interest groups.” Daniel Bice at the Journal Sentinel revealed why it’s looking like it’s Walker’s recall campaign under investigation:

From the outset, the probe focused on possible “illegal campaign coordination between (name redacted), a campaign committee, and certain special interest groups,” according to a filing signed by the five district attorneys in the case.
The campaign committee under the microscope?

Almost certainly it’s the Friends of Scott Walker, the governor’s campaign committee.
“Good guess,” said one source familiar with the probe. “That’s it.”

Several others, however, were reluctant to identify the governor’s campaign, noting the secrecy order remains in place. A John Doe probe is similar to a grand jury in that it allows prosecutors to collect evidence and gather testimony in secret.

http://www.jsonline.com/watchdog/noquarter/unsealed-john-doe-filings-reveal-roots-of-recall-probe-b99195982z1-243271991.html

In an earlier Journal Sentinel article by Patrick Marley, Jason Stein and Daniel Bice, it was pointed out that Walker’s campaign also paid $86,000 to defense lawyers at a legal firm one would hire if they were being probed. Of the five suspects, we have tax exempt 501©4 “social welfare” nonprofit the Wisconsin Club for Growth, which outed itself as one of the groups under investigation. Source Watch details, “Wisconsin Club for Growth (WCFG) is a state arm of the national Club for Growth, and one of the top political spenders in Wisconsin. WCFG spent $9.1 million during the Wisconsin recall elections, and has reportedly received a subpoena in a John Doe probe into possible campaign finance violations during those races.” Naturally the Kochs are involved because wherever you see Governor Walker, a Koch brother is not far behind:

WCFG’s Board of Directors includes Eric O’Keefe, a right-wing political operative with deep ties to the Koch brothers, and who helped form groups including the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity and American Majority. WCFG is led by RJ Johnson, a close Walker ally and advisor.
