Drop Everything and TAKE ACTION': Activists Issue Clarion Call to SAVE The INTERNET

"...As a countdown begins, time to show "FCC largest protest it's every seen" say defenders of net neutrality.."

~snip~

There's no time like the present to save the future of the internet. That's the message from the nation's largest and most active organizations focused on the issue of online freedom and net neutrality. Following this week's news that FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler is preparing a push to pass new rules that would allow the nation's internet providers to create a two-tiered, two-speed internet by allowing corporations to pay for privileged access to broadband "fast lanes," the group's opposed to the move are warning the American people that if they don't act quickly and aggressively, the open internet they know and love could be destroyed forever.

~snip~

The activated groups and their members are doubly outraged that the Obama administration has strayed so far from early promises to protect the open internet. Now, despite the continued disappointments, they are vowing to highlight the profound and terrible consequences that could follow if net neutrality is destroyed. "People are right to be outraged that Obama’s FCC is moving to extinguish an open internet," said RootsAction.org co-founder Jeff Cohen, who cited promises made in 2008 by then-candidate Obama to defend the ideals and policies of an open internet. "We must not allow net neutrality to be just another broken promise. Let’s organize like mad to save the internet, as if democracy and press freedom both depend on it ... because they do."

RootsAction.org has teamed up with Demand Progress to encourage their members to lobby both the FCC and members of Congress. "In order to get the FCC to save net neutrality, we need to bring a lot of public and political pressure to bear right away," said Demand Progress executive director David Segal. But in order to make their voices heard and claim a victory, he acknowledged, "We'll need to enlist the help of hundreds of thousands of Americans over the next couple of weeks." As for the new FCC rules proposed by Wheeler, the Electronic Frontier Foundation's April Glaser and Corynne Mcsherry warn the American public that the "devil will be in the details." They write:

While all we have now is a statement that a proposal for what the proposed rules might look like is being circulated in private within the FCC, the public should be poised to act. In an FCC rulemaking process, the commission issues what’s called a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM). After the NPRM is issued, the public is invited to comment to the FCC about how their proposal will affect the interest of the public.

The FCC is required by law to respond to public comments, so it’s extremely important that we let the FCC know that rules that let ISPs pick and choose how certain companies reach consumers will not be tolerated.

https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2014/04/fccs-new-rules-could-threaten-net-neutrality

According to Craig Aaron, that leaves approximately three weeks to save the internet by killing Wheeler's proposal and again trying to force the FCC to do what experts—not to mention the federal courts—have said is the best solution: reclassify broadband as a public utility. "Now is the time for action," said Aaron. "The next three weeks are absolutely crucial to building the public pressure it will take to get the FCC to scrap this wreck and do what it should have done in the first place." As he explains, a federal court decision earlier this year "told the FCC that if it wishes to ensure Internet users can send and receive information free from ISP interference, then the agency must classify ISPs as telecom carriers under Title II of the Communications Act."

BAM!!- Feds Preparing To Bring CRIMINAL CHARGES Against Rep. Grimm

BAM, BAM!! - Looks like prosecutors might be throwing HIM over the cliff soon..........

Federal prosecutors in New York are preparing to bring criminal charges against (R-NY), his attorney confirmed to TPM on Friday.

According to CNN, the charges could come as soon as next week.

Grimm, a former FBI agent, has been under federal investigation for years, during which time several of his associates have been charged by prosecutors. In the summer of 2012, an Israeli citizen who helped Grimm raise money for his 2010 congressional campaign was arrested by the FBI for lying on immigration documents. In January, a Texas woman accused of using straw donors to illegally funnel $10,000 to Grimm's campaign was reportedly in plea deal negotiations with federal prosecutors. But an attorney for the woman told CNN that those talks had failed to produce a deal. According to CNN the investigation into Grimm ranged from his 2010 campaign to Grimm's business dealings.

Grimm, who has a reputation has a hot-headed outbursts, asserted "his innocence of any wrongdoing" in a statement issued by his lawyer.

Gov. Nathan Deal THREATENS GEORGIA's COAST with Reckless Exploitation on Earth Day

"..Should the public become widely aware of the Deal administration’s corporate giveaway of the coasts, it could become a toxic issue in the upcoming election, in which the grandson of former president Jimmy Carter, Democrat Jason Carter, was leading Republican Nathan Deal in March. Nathan Deal got elected even with a past clouded with suspicion of corruption as a member of Congress, so the public should have known what to expect with him. But since they missed it, the fact that the FBI is currently investigating an ethics scandal close to the governor might serve as a refresher..."

This will definitely be an election issue, if not, MAKE IT AN ISSUE for Georgians........

~snip~

Reckless coastal development is heading to Georgia, courtesy of the Nathan Deal administration. Naturally this marsh killing policy was announced on Earth Day. If you’ve never been to Georgia, you’re missing out. Georgia’s 300,000 acres of tidal marshes are a source of huge pride in the Peach state, for good reason. Not only are fishing and shrimping a large source of recreational, family-owned businesses, but the state has always taken a much more protective stance towards its coasts and marshlands. The birds and the stunning scenery are a testament to past policies of preservation. But it’s not just Georgians who benefit from the preserved and protected coast. The Center for a Sustainable Coast estimates that “Georgia’s tidal marshes are about a third of those remaining on the U.S. east coast…” You won’t see the kind of built up, destroyed coasts in Georgia that you will see in South Carolina.

~snip~

In case anyone is paying attention, it is exactly this executive branch privilege to interpret policy that Republicans claim makes President Obama a dictator worse than Hitler when he does it. Turner served former Governor Sonny Perdue, and was appointed to his current position by the Board of Natural Resources with the approval of current Governor Nathan Deal in 2012. Bill Sapp, senior attorney with the Southern Environmental Law Center, told Savannah Now, “In addition to protecting the environment (the buffer is) really good planning for development. Gov. (Nathan) Deal has a choice on the coast to allow for responsible development or reckless development. After seeing the decision today, it seems he’s choosing the latter.” Sherpa Guides The Natural Georgia series lays out how the existing barrier islands are approximately 2/3 native wilderness and how they protect the mainland from storms and winds (like hurricanes):

Unlike many of America’s shorelines, whose beaches and barrier islands are being lost to development, many of Georgia’s islands still retain much of their native wilderness. Approximately two-thirds of the islands are state and national parks, wildlife refuges, research reserves, and heritage preserves. The name “barrier” has been given to these islands because they protect the mainland from storm waves and the strongest winds. Clay and sand sediments carried in the incoming tides and rivers settle behind the barrier islands to form the marshes.

… This position of the barrier islands relative to the South Atlantic Bight affects Georgia’s tides, waves, and incidences with hurricanes.

LOL!!- FOX’s Greg Gutfield BASHES Chris Christie For RIDICULOUS ANTI-MARIJUANA CLAIMS

FOX??.......FOX bashing Christie??.......Huh?......Obesity kills more than Pot Gov. Christie?...........

Poor Chris Christie. The portly governor of New Jersey has been having a tough time in the media in recent months. It was bad enough for him that MSNBC has been providing ongoing coverage of the George Washington Bridge scandal. But now, the anti-Christie sentiment is finding its way onto the GOP friendly zone of Fox News. A few days ago, Christie offered his opinion on marijuana legalization in Colorado. According to CNN, Christie said the following to a caller who phoned his “Ask the Governor” radio show to ask about legalizing marijuana in New Jersey:

For the people who are enamored with the idea with the income, the tax revenue from this, go to Colorado and see if you want to live there. See if you want to live in a major city in Colorado where there’s head shops popping up on every corner and people flying into your airport just to come and get high. To me, it’s just not the quality of life we want to have here in the state of New Jersey and there’s no tax revenue that’s worth that.

Christie’s remarks didn’t sit well with Fox News’s Greg Gutfeld. Asked about his thoughts concerning the governor’s comments on the Fox show The Five, Gutfeld says, “You know what is deadlier than pot, Governor Christie? What kills 300,000 people every year? Obesity.” Fellow panelists can be heard to moan “Ooh.”

Gutfeld continues,

There are no recorded deaths by overdose of marijuana, you have to smoke like 20,000 joints. Of course people get high and do stupid things, but more people have died from the war on drugs than the drugs themselves.

If you’re pro-gun, does that mean that you are advocating children shooting themselves? These are inert substances. Drugs do not pop into people’s mouths the same way that guns don’t shoot without the help of a finger. So this is an inert substance and should be treated like that. We should respect people who want it legalized, and I return to the thing. You should then ban Twinkies and you should ban steaks and you should ban Cool Whip and all the stuff that makes you fat.

LOL!!- Cliven Bundy DESTROYS FOX NEWS And Sean Hannity By Claiming They SUPPORT His RACISM

Get the ADS ready..........buh-bye Hannity!.................

Written by Jason Easely Politicususa

Cliven Bundy is obliterating Sean Hannity and Fox News by claiming that they still support him, because they are right on, and they understand his racist views.

CNN asked Bundy if he felt abandoned by Fox News. The racist rancher replied, “You know, I don’t think I’ve been abandoned. I think they misunderstood me a little bit. I think Fox and I. I think Hannity and I are right on, and I have no doubt that he would support me if he understood my really what’s in my heart, and I think he does understand me. I don’t think there’s a question there.”

When told that Hannity called him racist, repugnant, and ignorant, Bundy replied, “I hope I’m not that way. I’ll tell you what. I’m not.”

Cliven Bundy is destroying Fox News and Sean Hannity by claiming that they “understand him.” In this respect, Bundy is just like Fox News’ audience. They watch Fox, and shows like Hannity, but those programs reinforce their beliefs. Bundy thinks that Fox believes exactly what he does, because this is exactly the message that the network delivers to their viewers every single day.

New York Times FINALLY NOTICES That Some Democrats Are RUNNING On OBAMACARE!

The New York Times is catching up to what Daily Kos has been reporting for a while now: there are Democrats running on their support for Obamacare. We've talked about senators in two tough re-election campaigns: Alaska's Sen. Mark Begich and the terrific ad reiterating his support, and Sen. Mary Landrieu who is basing a good part of her campaign on Medicaid expansion in Louisiana, but also who says that the benefits of Obamacare are "worth fighting for." We've also featured the two candidates for governor that the Times mentions: Rep. Allyson Schwartz in Pennsylvania, and Charlie Crist in Florida.

What Daily Kos didn't do that the Times does is talk to Republicans to get their reaction.

Andrea Bozek, a spokeswoman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, said the recent spate of ads Democrats were running in support of the law would “be great for Republicans” in November.
“We’re going to be able to take those ads that they’re wasting their money on, and use that footage and put it in our attack ads this fall,” Ms. Bozek said.

From the cheap seats out here in Bloglandia, it looks a lot more like the waste of money has been the millions the Koch brothers have spent in attack ads so far only to see Democratic candidates gaining in the polls. But, by all means, NRCC keep pouring your money into that effort.

This is good, too:

Stuart Stevens, Mitt Romney’s chief strategist in the 2012 presidential campaign, said the fact that some of these ads did not mention the Affordable Care Act by name was an indication of the challenges Democrats still face.

And Mitt Romney's chief strategist is an expert in political strategy worth interviewing about this because. . . .?
The evidence actually shows that even in the Southern red states, the Republican repeal agenda is a loser. These Democrats, who have so surprised establishment media by actually running on an accomplishment, are smart enough to realize that.

There. He Said It: "WORLD WAR III"

"...Ukraine's interim prime minister says that Ukraine crisis could result in intercontinental war between the West and Russia.."

Ukraine's interim Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk did not mince words on Friday as he invoked the possibility that the crisis in Ukraine could quickly spiral out of control and spark a Third World War. "The world has not yet forgotten World War Two, but Russia already wants to start World War Three," Yatseniuk told his cabinet in remarks broadcast live from Kiev. "Attempts at military conflict in Ukraine will lead to a military conflict in Europe."

Tensions in the former Soviet-bloc country returned to high levels on Thursday following assaults on outposts manned by pro-Russian Ukrainians in the east by special forces sent by the Kiev government. At least five people were reported killed in one clash. That incident and other movements by Ukraine soldiers against those in the east demanding referendums to decide their future political affiliations spurred Russian President Vladimir Putin to say that further violence would result in unspecified "consequences."

At the diplomatic level, the situation continues to deteriooriate as Russian, U.S., and Ukraine officials trade threats as the detente reached in Geneva last weeks begins to rapidly fade.

"The West wants — and this is how it all began — to seize control of Ukraine because of their own political ambitions, not in the interests of the Ukrainian people," said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in response to new threats of sanctions coming from the Obama administration.

As Reuters reports:

Yatseniuk took office in February after pro-European protests prompted the Kremlin-backed president to flee to Russia.

Ukraine plans to hold an election to replace Viktor Yanukovich on May 25, but the Russian-speaking east of the country has been disrupted by pro-Moscow militants who have taken over the city of Slaviansk and public buildings elsewhere, demanding to follow Crimea into being annexed by Russia.

Russia denies involvement but has denounced the Ukrainian government, which it says is illegitimate and backed by "fascist" Ukrainian nationalists, and has threatened to move in to protect ethnic Russians and Russian-speakers in Ukraine.

Stephen Colbert Ballad Of Cliven Bundy Interrupted Because: 'Nothing Rhymes with Negro'

Last night, Stephen Colbert examined Sean Hannity's devotion to promoting the cause of racist Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy.

And folks, my one regret here is that I did not embrace Cliven Bundy sooner, like Sean Hannity did. You know, really draw him to my bosom. To link us inexorably together. To hang him around my neck like some kind of lucky dead sea bird. (audience laughter) But you beat me to it, Sean! You're good, buddy, you're good!

Thanks to your non-stop supportive coverage of Bundy, now when anyone thinks of folks who have insight into "the Negro," they'll think of Sean Hannity. (wild audience cheering and applause)

I mean, these two go together like Ku and Klux. (audience laughter) I mean, I salute you, Sean. I salute you for bravely standing by a man whose only crime was breaking federal law.

Cuomo Defends STYMYING Corruption Commission: 'BECAUSE I COULD'

Now how does that old saying go about 'absolute power'?............

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo promised to clean up New York's rampant corruption in the state capitol in Albany. Then when the commission he appointed, the Moreland Commission, got close to his patrons, his office squashed those investigations.

Watchdog groups raised concerns about the panel’s credibility after reports about interference by the governor’s office, which leaned on the commission to limit the scope of its investigations, influence which subpoenas it would issue, and in some cases, stop the commission from issuing subpoenas to groups with ties to Mr. Cuomo.

And when that wasn't enough, he simply shut the commission down. So much for cleaning up Albany. But a federal prosecutor has taken over the commission's files and blasted the governor, and the New York press is starting to dig further. So how does Cuomo respond to this growing mess?

“It’s not a legal question. The Moreland Commission was my commission,” Mr. Cuomo explained. “It’s my commission. My subpoena power, my Moreland Commission. I can appoint it, I can disband it. I appoint you, I can un-appoint you tomorrow.

"So, interference? It’s my commission. I can’t 'interfere' with it, because it is mine. It is controlled by me.”

http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20140424/BLOGS04/140429924

Seriously, admitting that it was kabuki from day one? Admitting that every promising corruption lead followed by the commission was squashed by him because it was controlled by him? The Moreland Commission scandal has already killed Cuomo's national ambitions. This response is just icing on the cake.
