MOTHER JONES Chief Goes On A Tear Against 'LOW CLASS' Former Bush Press Secretary

Republican operatives beware: If you come at Mother Jones, you might face the wrath of David Corn. Ari Fleischer, the former White House press secretary under George W. Bush, learned that lesson on Wednesday after he spoke dismissively of a tough piece on New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez ®. The piece, authored by Andy Kroll of Mother Jones, contained audio recordings, text messages and emails in which Martinez and her staffers made derisive, profane remarks. Martinez has already tried to raise money off the piece and conservatives have done their best to discredit Mother Jones. Fleischer took the latter approach in an interview with US News & World Report. “Any time Mother Jones attacks, Republicans will rally around the ‘victim.’ It's hard to imagine a more reviled outlet than Mother Jones,” Fleischer said. “Tell me the worst thing she said – not her aides, but her.” Those comments left Corn incensed. The Washington bureau chief for Mother Jones lashed out at Fleischer in a series of tweets, highlighting the former Bush spokesman's insistence throughout 2002 and 2003 that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

Here's a sample of Corn's tweets.

Hey, @AriFleischer, get lost. http://t.co/b5U4lzZeLQ (BTW, let's not forget the Iraq war & your defense of the 47% remarks.)
— David Corn (@DavidCornDC) April 16, 2014

.@AriFleischer: "We know for a fact that there are weapons there." January 9, 2003
— David Corn (@DavidCornDC) April 16, 2014

.@JohnJHarwood It sure takes chutzpah for @AriFleischer to call anyone else "reviled."
— David Corn (@DavidCornDC) April 16, 2014

Last word: I don't think @AriFleischer should call anyone else "reviled" until the W gang shows regret for the 100K+ Iraqi civilians killed
— David Corn (@DavidCornDC) April 16, 2014

Corn wasn't done there. He told TPM in a Wednesday phone interview he finds it "interesting that [Fleischer] is not taking issue with the accuracy of our reporting." He also noted that Fleischer's embarrassing pronouncements aren't limited to the Iraq War. "This is the same guy who defended Mitt Romney's '47 percent' remarks and also believed that Mitt Romney was going to win by three or four points," Corn said. It was Corn who broke the '47 percent' story in the fall of 2012 and Mother Jones has continued to haunt conservatives with several notable scoops ever since.

Mother Jones reported last year that Chris McDaniel, the Mississippi tea partier running for Senate, once addressed a neo-Confederate conference host by a group of present-day secessionists. Earlier this month, the outlet revealed that Hobby Lobby, the company waging a legal challenge against Obamacare's contraception mandate, actually invests in contraception makers.

Christie ACCUSED Of MEDDLING With State Ethics Agency

BAM!.......................

Newark Star-Ledger:

Now, three former commission officials, breaking four years of silence, are accusing the governor’s office of unprecedented interference with an agency set up to be free of political influence. Christie, they say, pushed the agency commissioners to replace the executive director — at a time when she was investigating a member of his own staff — thus crossing a line no other governor had before.

http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2014/04/former_watchdogs_accuse_christie_of_interfering_with_state_ethics_agency.html#incart_flyout_politics

One of the three officials is a former Republican state senator who served as the Ethics Commission vice chairman. Essentially, the claim is that Christie fired the Ethics Commission chairwoman after she refused to provide the name of a citizen who had filed an anonymous complaint against a Christie administration official who had allegedly interfered with a state agency decision dealing with feral cats. The official—surprise, surprise—worked for Bill Stepien and Bridget Anne Kelly, the two former Christie aides at the center of the Fort Lee lane closure scandal. Of course, the Christie administration denies doing anything wrong, because what could possibly be wrong about firing the head of a supposedly independent ethics commission when she refuses to expose the identity of someone accusing the administration of improprieties?

BAM!- Another Republican Goes Down as Rick Perry Is The FOCUS Of A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION

......................

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has lawyered up as the criminal investigation into whether he illegally withheld money from a district attorney’s office is gaining steam.

According to the American-Statesman:

Gov. Rick Perry has retained a high-profile Austin defense lawyer to represent him in a criminal investigation into whether he illegally withheld money from the Travis County district attorney’s office, the American-Statesman and KVUE-TV confirmed Sunday.

The hiring of David L. Botsford is the latest signal that the inquiry into Perry’s conduct might be gaining momentum after a seven-month investigation.

http://www.statesman.com/news/news/state-regional-govt-politics/rick-perry-hires-austin-lawyer-for-criminal-inquir/nfY8w/

If this case reminds you of another Republican governor who wants to run for president, but is trapped in his own web of self created scandals, it should. Perry got himself into hot water by threating to withhold $7.5 million in funding unless the Democratic Travis County DA resigned. Perry wanted her to resign after she was convicted of a DWI. The Democrat promised not to run for reelection, but refused to resign. Perry’s actions put a cloud of uncertainty over hundreds of criminal investigations and were illegal. The governor can’t withhold funding in order to pressure another elected official to resign. The matter of the DA and her DWI is an issue between her and the voters.

Gov. Perry’s actions are very similar to what Chris Christie is being accused of doing in New Jersey. Christie is accused of withholding Sandy aid, unless political favors were granted to his campaign donors. Both Christie and Perry have White House dreams in 2016, and both may be undone by their own criminal abuses of power.

COWARDLY Rand Paul CAVES, BOWS DOWN, & KISSES The Ring of Dick Cheney

The Rand Paul bullshit meter has exploded.....kiss Darth's ring mofu.....

On ABC’s This Week, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) completely reversed course by claiming that Dick Cheney loves America, and that he never criticized the former vice president’s motives for invading Iraq.

Transcript:

KARL: So I want to turn to foreign policy, some tapes of you over the last few years have emerged recently. You were very critical of Dick Cheney. You suggested that he was opposed to going into Baghdad in 1991…

~video clip~

PAUL: Dick Cheney then goes to work for Halliburton, makes hundreds of millions of dollars as CEO. Next thing you know, he’s back in government it’s a good idea to go to Iraq.

~end of video clip

KARL: Do you really think that Cheney was motivated by his financial ties to Halliburton.

PAUL: I’m not questioning his motives.

KARL: Sure looked like you were questioning his motives.

PAUL: Well, here’s what I’m questioning, I don’t think Dick Cheney did it out of malevolence, I think he loves his country as much as I love the country…

KARL: But you said we don’t want our defense to be defined by people who make money off the weapons. Are you suggesting that’s why we went to war in Iraq?

PAUL: No. No.

KARL: That our defense was being defined by people who make money off weapons?

PAUL: No. And that’s why I’m also saying that I’m not questioning Dick Cheney’s motives.

There’s a chance for a conflict of interest. At one point in time, he was opposed going into Baghdad. Then he was out of office and involved in the defense industry and then he became for going into Baghdad.

http://abcnews.go.com/ThisWeek/week-transcript-ambassador-samantha-power/story?id=23293462&page=4

Sen. Paul isn’t a leader. He is a coward, who is saying whatever he has to say in order to win the Republican nomination in 2016. It is not surprising that Paul would completely take back his criticism of Cheney. Sen. Paul has to shake the perception within the Republican Party that the apple didn’t fall too far from the fringe extremist tree. Rand Paul is behaving just like Mitt Romney did in 2012. Both men were/are consumed with their desire to be president. The Paul folks seem to believe that they can say whatever they have to in order to win the nomination, then do whatever they want.

The problem is that Paul’s explanations are so convoluted that he is making it nearly impossible for anyone outside of his current base of support to take him seriously as a presidential candidate. It makes perfect sense for Rand Paul to bow down and kiss Dick Cheney’s ring. It may be hard to believe for anyone outside of the Republican Party, but the Bush/Cheney foreign policy remains popular within the GOP.

Bill Maher RIPS Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, and the CRAZED REPUBLICAN MOON HOWLERS

You Go Bill!!.................

Bill Maher ripped Republicans like Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz who are more interesting in howling at the moon, and making money than they are in governing.

Maher said:

"..Truth is there has never been a better time to quit government, and go into the lucrative business of b*tching about government. It worked for Joe Scarborough, Mike Huckabee, and most famously, of course, Sarah Palin. The one night stand of Alaska governors. When Sarah announced she was resigning as governor, she said, “It may be tempting to keep your head down and just plod along, but that’s a quitter’s way out.” Yes, only by quitting was she not quitting. You see, Sarah realized she could have a greater affect on influencing stupidity from outside of government, and pledged to work to elect people just like her, just not her.

The fact is today’s Republicans aren’t built to govern. They don’t want to go to the moon. They want to howl at it. That’s why just the fact of getting elected means you’re already damaged goods. Unless you go to Washington and act like the single biggest prick in the room every time, you’re suspect, which is why there’s really only one man current in government who the base completely trusts. I’m talking, of course, about Ted Cruz.

He’s the guy who best understands that high office is just a higher form of talk radio. Rick Perry told them that they should have a heart. Mitch McConnell holds a gun like a girl, and Marco Rubio is pretty soft on Mexicans for an Italian. John McCain is against torture, and he was tortured. Flip-flopper. Chris Christie actually touched Obama during Hurricane Sandy when he should have lured him to the Pine Barrens and hit him with a shovel, and Michele Bachmann compromised on gays by marrying her husband..."

It used to be that the golden parachute for Republicans who left government was going directly into lobbying for some big bank or defense contractor, but now elected Republicans are leaving office in midterm to try to cash their golden ticket on Fox News and/or talk radio. Congress has become the new Saturday Night Live for stardom seeking Republicans. Some of them are trying to use it as a platform to the White House (Paul Ryan, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio). Others are using it to build national fame and fortune (Ted Cruz, Michele Bachmann), but they all have one thing in common. They aren’t in Congress to pass legislation, and do the country’s business.

STUPID PARTY Bobby Jindal "Congressman McAllister’s BEHAVIOR Is An EMBARRASSMENT & HE SHOULD RESIGN"

Hey Bobby, how about Senator Vitter?......Just another Republican Hypocritter................

Dems should pounce on this hypocrisy!..

Hoo boy. Rep. Vance McAllister has probably had better weeks, hasn't he? It got worse on Thursday, as the top luminaries within the GOP in his home state of Louisiana have broken out the pointiest of sharp sticks with which to assail their colleague. The latest to call for McAllister's ouster was none other than two-term state Governor (and presidential wannabe) Bobby Jindal:

“Congressman McAllister’s behavior is an embarrassment and he should resign,” Jindal said in a statement released by his office Thursday afternoon. “He says he wants privacy to work on his issues with his family. The best way to get privacy and work on putting his family back together is to resign from Congress.”

http://www.wwltv.com/news/La-Republican-Party-calls-for-McAllister-to-step-down-from-Congress-254758201.html

Jindal's statement came less than a day after the chairman of the Louisiana Republican Party also called for McAllister's resignation.
All of this becomes a bit smirk worthy, of course, to anyone with a sense of recent history as it relates to Louisiana Republicans and sexual scandal. Like ... oh, I dunno ... this guy:

Louisiana Sen. David Vitter, whose telephone number was disclosed by the so-called "D.C. Madam" accused of running a prostitution ring, says he is sorry for a "serious sin" and that he has already made peace with his wife.

"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said Monday in a printed statement. "Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way."

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/senator-caught-in-dc-madam-scandal/

You will recall, of course, that no such sharp knives were laid out for Senator Vitter when his aberrant behavior came to light seven years ago. This is especially notable when one considers that in the spectrum of scandalous behavior, Vitter's event seems quite a bit worse than McAllister's. There are two key differences here, both of which point to the absolutely rank hypocrisy of the Louisiana Republican leadership in this case.

First of all, part of this is a simple matter of the cliquishness that often accompanies professional politics. David Vitter was protected by the Republicans in general, and Louisiana's GOP leadership in particular, because they liked him and respected him. McAllister, on the other hand, lacked the long and symbiotic history Vitter enjoyed with the Louisiana GOP. Quite the opposite: his ascendancy to the House came at the expense of the state establishment, who watched their preferred candidate (state Sen. Neil Riser) fall to defeat. Furthermore, while far from a moderate, McAllister had fought the GOP (and, by extension, Jindal) on the issue of Medicaid expansion. McAllister's "outsider" street cred might have paid dividends last fall, but it may well be his undoing now.

Exceptional Alaska New Ad Shows HOW DEMOCRATS Everywhere SHOULD BE RUNNING On Obamacare

The excellent ads supporting Democratic Sen. Mark Begich's re-election bid keep coming, though the latest is not from Begich himself but rather Put Alaska First, a super PAC supporting him. (PAF, by the way, is chiefly funded by the Senate Majority PAC.) Simply put, this is how Democrats in red states—or really, Democrats anywhere—should be running on Obamacare:

In the ad, born-and-raised Alaskan Lisa Keller—"a mother, a runner, a breast cancer survivor"—jogs through a snowbound Anchorage, explaining she was "lucky" because she "beat cancer." "But," she continues, "the insurance companies still denied me health insurance, just because of a pre-existing condition." However, she adds, "I now have health insurance again, because of Mark Begich. Because he fought the insurance companies so that we no longer have to."

You can't offer a message simpler and more heartening than that. This is precisely the kind of sympathetic story that Americans for Prosperity wished it could tell, except this one happens to be completely true and gets to the very core of what's best about the Affordable Care Act. You want to run on repealing Obamacare? You're literally running on repealing Lisa Keller's health insurance. The stakes couldn't be clearer.

McDonald’s Managers Ordered To CHEAT Employees Out Of Pay

Send these 'McPricks' a message....Stop buying their product!......

McDonald’s is certainly no stranger when it comes to being colossal McPricks. In fact, they’re pretty gangsta about it. We’re already aware of their notorious website and the not so hallmark-y advice McDonald’s has to offer its low-wage employees. But one former McDonald’s managers’ candid video, which features her explaining how corporate would force her to cheat employees out of pay to reduce labor costs, should compel anyone to unquestionably stop “Lovin’ it.”

Former McDonald’s Manager discusses adjusting employee hours and other ‘creative accounting’ ways to cheat employees.

“Oh, we’ve got to adjust labor” is what Kwanza Brooks, a former McDonald’s manager with 10 years of experience working at 12 locations, says a manager told her once as she was finishing up a shift.

It seems that Brooks joined forces with Lakia Williams, another ex-McDonald’s manager, in shedding light on the utterly abysmal labor practices of McDonald’s former employer in the above video. The video was put together by Low Pay Is Not OK. Both Brooks and Williams speak calmly and matter-of-factly about the anti-labor practices of McDonald’s, echoing the same concerns in the class action lawsuits brought against McDonald’s in California, Michigan, and New York earlier this month.

Here’s what one of the attorney’s representing the McDonald’s employees in the class action suit had to say:

“It’s our understanding that both the managers and McDonald’s monitor what percentage of overall sales go to labor at any point in time, ”B.J. Chrisholm, one of the attorneys representing workers in the California case, told me the day the lawsuits were announced. “It’s really the sort of obsession with keeping that labor number low that results in a lot of the practices that we’re seeing in the restaurants.” (Takepart.com)

The candor from Brooks and Williams is yet another reminder how the one percent have hijacked the middle and lower classes. The sheer gall of McDonald’s and their hatred of their own employees makes Ronald McDonald look less like a friendly clown and more like the Wolf of Wall Street.

Crazy GOP Candidate Wants To JAIL LGBT People Who DON'T SUBMIT To Gay Conversion Therapy

"..Scott Lively, a Republican candidate for governor in Massachusetts, thinks gay people should be jailed if they do not submit to conversion therapy. The Tea Party found themselves a winner with this one. – Image from Tent of Abraham..."

Conversion therapy or jail?

Scott Lively made his asinine remarks to the Editor-at-large of Huffington Post Gay Voices, Michelangelo Signorile. The interview was regarding Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act. Lively said he’s “very disappointed” that Uganda “fell back into punitive sanctions,” explaining that he “was urging them to focus on therapy and prevention.” When asked what would happen to people who did not want to submit to the therapy, he had this to say:

“Well then they would take whatever the other alternative is, which was probably going to jail,” he said.

Yes, because jailing people who refuse to submit to conversion therapy is the way to go. Scary that this is a belief held by a man running for governor in the first state to embrace marriage equality.

So what’s with Scott Lively?

Lively is a bigot, plain and simple. He is the founder of Abiding Truth Ministries a nonprofit organization that is largely responsible for the anti-gay laws in Uganda. The Southern Poverty Law Center labeled it a hate group. In 2012, a gay rights group, Sexual Minorities Uganda, sued Lively in U.S. Federal Court for inciting the persecution of the LGBT community. The case has not been resolved yet.

Lively is also prone to violence. In 1991 he threw Catherine Stauffer against a wall and dragged her across the floor by hair when she tried to film an event in Portland. She sued Lively and won. Lively also says he plans on bringing back anti-sodomy laws and trying to get marriage equality repealed if he is elected governor. He sounds like a lovely man. Advocating conversion therapy; stating that people who do not comply should be put in jail in Uganda. He apparently has no problems beating women and he wants to set Massachusetts back thirty years.

I suspect he will get tons of Tea Party support.
