(R) Senate Candidate Linda Lingle, Akin Condemner, DENIED Emergency Contraception To RAPE VICTIMS

Republican Linda Lingle, running for the open senate seat in deep blue Hawaii, has been trying to portray herself as a moderate, going so far as to publish a photo of her all buddy-buddy with President Obama. So, of course, she fell all over herself running away from Todd Akin and his comments about rape and abortion.

Unfortunately for Lingle, she's got a record from her tenure as governor, and her record on rape and abortion is extreme.

When she was Governor of Hawaii, Lingle vetoed a bill that would have required hospitals to provide emergency contraception to rape victims who wanted it, citing hospitals with religious objections. She even boasts about the veto on her website.

At the time, there was only one Catholic hospital system in the state, St. Francis Medical Center, which would probably not have received any rape victims anyway, since it did not host an OB-GYN program.

She does indeed boast about the veto on her website, here:

With the stroke of a pen, Lingle potentially denied critical health care to raped women, potentially forcing them to become pregnant by their rapists. That's just as extreme as Todd Akin, or Paul Ryan, or any other Republican.

SUPPORT Democrat Mazie Hirono, the Candidate who would TRULY represent Hawaii.

VICIOUS Anti-Obama BILLBOARD Stirs Up Controversy

A billboard near Dallas says, “The Seals removed one threat to America. Remove the other in November.” The controversy is that Osama Bin Laden, referring to the threat the Seals removed, is now dead, and some people feel that comparing state-sanctioned elimination of a terrorist with removing a president from office was going too far.

It should also be noted that Admiral William McRaven, the commander of Seal Team Six, has indicated that Obama is responsible for the death of bin Laden, saying, “Well, let me make one thing clear, I didn’t order the raid. And this is not a small point. The fact of the matter is, it was the President of the United States that ordered the raid.”

The creator of the billboard, Tom Schad, should probably give credit where credit is due.

If you would like to change that, they are TerryCo Outdoor Advertising, based in Gainesville, Texas. They can be reached at (940) 365-3433. If you file a complaint, please do not try to offend the company. They offer a service, and if they declined on grounds of political affiliation it would be wrong. Just complain about the billboard.

Who REJECTS Right To Abortion In Cases Of RAPE?

Razib Kahn breaks down public opinion on abortion and rape. Note that no demographic group, not even biblical literalists or the extremely conservative, breaks fifty percent in denying abortion to rape victims:

It’s basically impossible to avoid hearing about Todd Akin right now. My Twitter and Facebook feeds are kind of swamped. But it did make me wonder: what percentage of Americans reject abortion in cases of rape and incest? The GSS has a handy variable, ABRAPE, which asks respondents about the possibility of abortion if a woman gets pregnant as a result of rape (let’s stipulate that it’s possible to get pregnant as a result of rape!). I also limited the sample to the year 2000 and later, and non-Hispanic whites (to clear out confounds). Demographic breakdowns below….

Before people start complaining, the scale below goes from 0% to 50%, NOT 0% to 100%!

How did a major political party adopt a policy position that is so so so far out of the mainstream? One word: fundamentalism.

PAUL RYAN (Mr.Taliban) REFUSES to Change his RAPE/NO ABORTION Stance

In an exclusive interview by CBS, Pittsburgh, 8/22/12, Paul Ryan said he was PROUD of his anti-abortion record. He refused to modify his views that women who are RAPED should not be allowed an abortion. They should be FORCED to carry their Rapist's child. (But then he said he would follow Romney?)

Ryan is a Taliban-like self-righteous religious fanatic WACKO who believes he can FORCE women to do what HE thinks is right.

CHART: Akin’s Views On Women’s Health Are In Line With GOP

from ThinkProgress:

Republicans have distanced themselves from Rep. Todd Akin’s (R-MO) “legitimate rape” comments, arguing that his insulting remarks are an embarrassment to the party. But peel away the outrageous rhetoric, and Akin’s policy positions on women’s health — his opposition to a woman’s right to choose and support for restricting access to contraception — are in line with GOP orthodoxy:

Akin has voted with a majority of his GOP colleagues 95.5 percent of the time in the 112th Congress, tied for the sixth-highest member who has voted in line with his party.

NEWSWEEK TUMBLR Changes Cursor to COAT HANGER to MOCK Women

Proving that they have no shame (as if this were in doubt after they published Niall Ferguson’s Obama article chock full of factual inaccuracies), today Newsweek changed the mouse/cursor on their Tumblr account to a coat hanger in order to mock Huffington Post’s use of a coat hanger in discussing the GOP’s party platform. Huff Po’s headline reads: “GOP PLATFORM: ANTI-ABORTION AMENDMENT, NO RAPE EXEMPTION”.

Hard to understand how Newsweek doesn’t get that the coat hanger image is not hyperbole. No exemption for rape, capiche? So under this Republican scenario, HOW DOES NEWSWEEK THINK WOMEN/YOUNG GIRLS WILL BE DEALING WITH BEING IMPREGNATED BY A RAPIST OR RELATIVE?

Newsweek wrote, “We’re retiring the mustache cursor for the day. Here’s our new one: a coat hanger.” (Warning, the coat hanger is still the cursor and it made me literally gag with pain just trying to navigate the page long enough to get a screengrab.)

Ha ha, right? Right? Do you get it? DEATH OF WOMEN IS FUNNY! Perhaps the old men at Newsweek will pardon us if our concern for our lives gets in the way of our appreciation of their startlingly archaic and misguided, misogynistic humor.

ROMNEY BUSTED! – Proud to Have ENDORSEMENT of Akin RAPE DOCTOR in 2007

The Coming Storm.....

Romney’s campaign can claim that “It’s not at all uncommon to have slight differences between the platform and the nominee” but it turns out, reports the LA Times, that the “Doctor behind Todd Akin’s rape theory was a Romney surrogate in 2007,” leading to questions as to just how much Romney does disagree with Akin, if at all.

According to the Times:

Archives from Romney’s previous presidential bid show that the Massachusetts Republican has historically supported the person who is the source of Akin’s theory, Dr. Jack C. Willke, the father of the antiabortion movement.

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-doctor-behind-todd-akins-rape-theory-was-a-romney-surrogate-in-2007-20120821,0,80862.story

Romney knew all this when he bragged about Wllke’s endorsement in 2007. And this isn’t icky lying liberals talking, this is Mitt Romney’s campaign bragging:

Mitt Romney 2007 Campaign Press Release:

“Dr. Willke is a leading voice within the pro-life community and will be an important surrogate for Governor Romney’s pro-life and pro-family agenda,” the Romney campaign said in an October 2007 statement.
“I am proud to have the support of a man who has meant so much to the pro-life movement in our country,” Romney said in the statement. “He knows how important it is to have someone in Washington who will actively promote pro-life policies. Policies that include more than appointing judges who will follow the law but also opposing taxpayer-funded abortion and partial-birth abortion.”

MAYBE..

Over the course of the campaign, Romney assured the American public that his financial disclosure forms told the full story about his finances.

Now we know they didn't
-- when he released his 2010 tax returns, he was forced to amend those forms to include his offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, and Switzerland.

Mitt Romney wants Americans to "just trust him" when he hasn't been forthcoming in his disclosure forms and his running mate, Paul Ryan, has proposed a plan that would reduce his tax burden to less than one percent, while raising taxes on middle class families by an average of more than $2,000?

Mitt Romney should come clean with the American public, explain what he's hiding and why he thinks it's fair that middle class Americans should pay far higher tax rates than he pays now and what he would pay under Paul Ryan's plan.
