Bernie Sanders: "Do I Want Or Need Rahm Emanuel's Support For President?..NO I DON'T."

"...But among all voters, the poll showed Sanders doing better than Clinton against the current Republican front-runner, Donald Trump. Against Trump, Sanders is favored, 51 percent to 38 percent. Clinton is backed 47 percent to 40 percent over Trump, the poll showed..."

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Wednesday took a not-so-subtle jab at Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a supporter of rival Hillary Clinton, in declaring he doesn't want or need the mayor's backing to win the White House. In a short Chicago visit ostensibly aimed at promoting ways to end what Sanders called "institutional racism" and improve the nation's criminal justice system, the Vermont senator sought to remind the city's Democratic progressive voters about the embattled mayor's backing of Clinton. Sanders first spoke of the need for immigration reform at a Latino forum in the Little Village neighborhood where he was joined by unsuccessful mayoral challenger Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, who is backing Sanders. Later, Sanders appeared on stage with Garcia and progressive activists at the Provision Theatre at the Village Leadership Academy, 1001 W. Roosevelt Road. There, Sanders recounted the need for policing reforms.

"I consider the issues of institutional racism and reforming a broken criminal system one of the most important things that a president of the United States can do," Sanders said.

"Lethal force should be a last option, not a first option," Sanders said of police-involved shootings— an issue that has prompted some calls for Emanuel's resignation in the wake of the recent release of police dash-cam video of the 2014 shooting of Laquan McDonald.

At the theater appearance — billed as a "press conference" although Sanders spoke for nearly 19 minutes before taking just two questions from one reporter — the candidate was asked about Emanuel's influence in national Democratic politics.

"If the question is, 'Do I want or need Rahm Emanuel's support for president?' with all due respect to the mayor: No. I don't," Sanders said. He noted that he endorsed Garcia just days before the city's first-ever runoff election for mayor in April.

"I came here to campaign for (Garcia) not only because of the ideas and programs he brought forth but, even more significantly, he was trying to do and is trying to do here in Chicago what I'm trying to do nationally," Sanders said. "He's bringing people together … to create a political movement so that local government and in my case, the federal government, works for us rather than just the billionaire class."

Sanders hasn't been shy about criticizing Emanuel, a former top aide in Bill Clinton's White House who is supporting the former president's wife, a Chicago native who grew up in suburban Park Ridge, for the Democratic presidential nomination. Earlier this month, he stopped just short of calling for Emanuel's resignation following the release of the McDonald shooting video. Sanders said "any elected official with knowledge that the tape was being suppressed or improperly withheld should resign."

Seattle Seahawks’ Michael Bennett On Why HE'S VOTING For Bernie Sanders

Seattle defensive lineman Michael Bennett stepped into the waters of politics Wednesday saying he plans to vote for Bernie Sanders for president.

Many athletes choose to keep political leanings and other sensitive topics to themselves, whether because they are advised to by others or simply because they want to. But it’s been clear for a while now that Michael Bennett is not like many athletes.

And Wednesday, when Bennett stepped in front of the cameras for a group session with the media, he did so wearing a Bernie Sanders hat adorned with a Bernie button.

“I’m going to vote for Bernie Sanders next year if he’s a candidate,’’ Bennett said. “He’s my pick, my choice so I’m wearing the hat that I got from him.’’

So why Sanders?

“I just like a lot of the things that he talks about, social injustice, the things about climate control and just a lot of different things that he does,’’ Bennett said. “I just think he’s an honest guy and one of the main people that really has a platform to really tell the truth to the people. And I think that’s what people need to hear is the honest truth and not so much hate from like Donald Trump and people like that and not so much about war but improving the people and improving the economy and just living good.’’

Bennett says he knows he’s likely to hear about it from people who don’t agree but said he doesn’t care.

“For me it’s just my opinion and who I like and what’s what I like,’’ he said. “Some people like red, some people like blue. I just happen to like Bernie Sanders.’’

The latest socially conscious Hip Hop artist to endorse Bernie Sanders is Brad Terrence Jordan, known as Scarface, he was in the Geto Boys, one of the first big hip hop groups out of the South in the 80's. He worked with Tupac, Ice Cube, Jay Z etc. Very heavily respected in music.

Bernie’s strong platform on racial justice is resonating with political and social activists in PoC communities, leading to increased support.

New CNN National Poll: Hillary's Lead DROPS By 12

Here is the poll: i2.cdn.turner.com/…

Her lead has gone from 58-30 to 50-34, which is still a sizeable lead. However, the nation doesn’t elect primary-winners, individual states do. But that means that he is succeeding in convincing Clinton voters to change sides, which, with plenty of time until voting starts, must be concerning to Team Clinton.

What seems to be driving Hillary’s drop is she is losing support from her base: older voters. In CNN’s November poll, she lead Bernie 70-17. Now, she leads just 59-24. This is going to be crucial for Bernie to have any chance at winning, so keep an eye on this.

Also helping boost Sanders is his increased support from nonwhite voters, which has gone from 28% to 32% in just one month.

I’m starting to understand why the DNC tried to give Sanders the death penalty. They are getting a little bit nervous that someone might interrupt the coronation.

RollingStone - Poll: Against Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump Would Get 'SCHLONGED'

Bernie Sanders would beat Donald Trump 51-38 in a general-election match-up, according to the latest poll from Quinnipiac University. Or — to put it in the course vernacular that Trump introduced to America this week — the billionaire would get "schlonged" by the democratic socialist.

"Sen. Bernie Sanders hammers him," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll. Hillary Clinton, the poll suggests, would also put Trump in his place — "Hillary Clinton tops him," added Malloy — though by a more modest 47-40.

That wasn't the only bad news for Trump, and by extension the GOP, to come out of the national poll: 61 percent of Americans say the Republican frontrunner "does not share their values," 58 percent believe he "is not honest and trustworthy,"and 57 percent say he "does not care about their needs and problems."

Hillary Clinton, LEAVE Our Grandmothers Out Of It

(CNN) She had to go there.

On Tuesday morning, Hillary Clinton's campaign released a post on her campaign site with the headline "Seven ways Hillary Clinton is just like your abuela." "Abuela" is the Spanish word for "grandmother," so presumably this list was designed to appeal to potential Latino voters. On the list were items such as, "She reads to you before bedtime" and "she had one word for Donald Trump ... 'Basta!' Enough!"

With all respect, Clinton's latest effort to connect with Latinos is beyond lame. Her campaign's list is an example of "Hispandering" at its worst. It is condescending to Latinos and has generated deserved pushback on social media. Clinton is an intelligent, accomplished woman and certainly presidential material. But let's be clear: She is not "just like" my abuela or those of most Latino voters. My grandmother did not go to Wellesley College and Yale Law School; she was fortunate to finish grade school. My grandmother did not give speeches for $200,000 a pop at Goldman Sachs; for most of her life, she cleaned other people's houses. My grandmother raised seven children In El Paso, Texas, yet did not live long enough to know most of her grandchildren.

The problem with Clinton's attempt at Latino outreach is that it talks down to Hispanic voters. The "Seven ways" posting seems to have been put together with little thought, as it consists mostly of GIFs and photos. The "reads to you before bedtime" item, which is accompanied by a picture of Clinton with two children who are not her grandchildren, appears to have been taken during the day. Her "one word for Donald Trump" is actually two words -- "Basta! Enough!" -- and "Basta" is not a commonly used expression. ("Ya," which also means "enough," might have been better.) What is conspicuously missing from this not-so-helpful list is any substantive discussion of the issues that matter to Latinos.

No wonder this effort backfired. By Tuesday evening, the hashtag "NotMyAbuela" was trending on Twitter. Latinos were quick to note the dissimilarities between their grandmothers and Clinton, saying, "My Abuelas survived poverty, abusive husbands, and dictatorships -- Hillary wears designer pantsuits" and "My Abuela worked as a meat cutter in a packing house until she was 66 years old." (@metalbones59). Others raised important policy points, such as "Unlike HRC, my grandmother's bills aren't paid for by lobbyists, PACs, and private prisons" (@lowsell) and "My abuela wouldn't support the deportation of central american child migrants to the violent countries they tried to flee from" (@paulinecstasy). The negative reaction was so bad that the Clinton campaign later changed its original headline from "Seven ways Hillary Clinton is just like your abuela" to "7 things Hillary Clinton has in common with your abuela."

Why Does Bernie Sanders POLL BETTER Than Hillary Clinton Against Donald Trump?

There are many reasons why Bernie Sanders poll better than Hillary Clinton against Donald Trump. Pundits may be underestimating voter intelligence. Lawrence O'Donnell presented an interesting segment that should give Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, and political pundits alike pause. A new Quinnipiac poll shows that Bernie Sanders would beat Donald Trump by twice as much as Hillary Clinton would in the general election. Clinton beats Trump 47/40 while Sanders beats Trump 51/38. It's a mix bag for the other GOP candidates. O'Donnell used the similarities between Trump and Sanders to identify the reason. In effect many Trump voters that are anathema to Clinton would switch their vote to Sanders if he were the nominee. Why?

O'Donnell played clips that clearly show why. Trump claims he is self-funding on the stump. Bernie highlights that he has no super PACs. Both speak out vociferously against lobbyist and big donors. They are both against trade deals like NAFTA, CAFTA, and TPP. They both slam bankers and Wall Street. In effect, Donald Trump is usurping Bernie Sanders' populous message. Unfortunately for Trump many of his voters would migrate to the real populous candidate.

Pundits on O'Donnell's panel were a bit skeptical. One panelist said that these numbers did not mean much because Bernie Sanders' Democratic Socialist moniker was not yet challenged. It is likely that most likely voters know that Sanders has in fact labeled himself a Democratic Socialist. So far Sanders has been doing a good job of defining it in bread and butter terms Americans understand.Pundits have been undermining and misreading the populous all year. Donald Trump should have been knocked off the leader's board in the GOP race. Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, or Marco Rubio should be on the ascent by now as everyone coalesced next to an establishment candidate.

This year could be a change election above and beyond 2008. The fallibility of the punditry in their prognostication so far may in fact be probative.

Bernie Sanders: 'NOT For Sale, NOT For Sale'

PRESS RELEASE

‘Not for Sale, Not for Sale’

DECEMBER 22, 2015

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – “I am getting a very good feeling about Iowa,” Bernie Sanders bellowed to a roaring crowd of 1,800 supporters packing an arena at the Iowa Western Community College on Tuesday.

Midway through the senator’s remarks, the crowd began to chant “not for sale, not for sale,” a rallying cry for Sanders’ people-powered presidential campaign and a rebuke to politicians bankrolled by millionaires and billionaires.

Sanders’ grassroots campaign has been propelled by a record 2.3 million donations averaging less than $30 each. Hillary Clinton’s campaign on Tuesday tried to cash in on Sanders’ success by making the unlikely claim that Sanders might raise more campaign cash than her. “Probably not,” a Sanders’ spokesman said, “but what is certain is that they will have more total money because they have established super PACs.”

Sanders has rejected super PACs, which may accept unlimited sums and are the key part of a corrupt political system that props up a rigged economy.

Addressing the crowd here in Pottawattamie County, Sanders welcomed the “fantastic” turnout three days before Christmas and 41 days before the Iowa precinct caucuses. All told, more than 31,000 people have filled school gyms, convention centers, churches and other venues for rallies and town meetings. “So keep it a secret. Don’t tell anyone, but I think we’re going to win here and make history,” Sanders said.

Earlier Tuesday at a town meeting in Storm Lake, Iowa, Sanders brought up an exchange during last weekend’s Democratic debate when David Muir of ABC News asked the former secretary of state, “Should corporate America love Hillary Clinton?” Quipped Clinton, “Everybody should.” In Iowa on Monday, Sanders was blunt. “I do not want to be liked by everybody. I want to be liked and supported by the middle class and working families because I am going to take on Wall Street and the billionaire class. They do not like me today. They will like me even less if I am elected president. I welcome their dislike.”

The rallies and town meetings on Sanders’ latest swing through Iowa came on the heels of a new CBS News Battleground tracker poll released on Sunday which found that Hillary Clinton is leading Sanders by only five points here in a state where pundits once deemed her the prohibitive favorite. He was 14 points ahead in New Hampshire.

This Iowa swing came in the wake of major developments in the Sanders campaign. Last Thursday he won the endorsement of the 700,000-member-strong Communications Workers of America. The same day he won the backing of the progressive grassroots group Democracy for America. Sanders was favored by 88 percent of those participating in an online poll.

Sanders will wrap up this trip to Iowa on Wednesday but return next week.
