A question about religion and politics

I've read here several times, that due to their support Evangelicals aren't christian. White Catholics voted overwhelmingly anti-dem, should we consider that group no longer christian as well?

Those are the numbers.

I should ask the same question about Mormons as well.

Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore suspended for defiance over same-sex marriage

This is the second time Roy S. Moore, chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, has been effectively pulled from office, following his ouster in 2003 over his refusal to obey judicial rulings ordering him to remove a Ten Commandments statue from the Alabama Judicial Building.

A complaint was filed by the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission charging Moore with violating judicial ethics in issuing an order in January stating that probate judges in the state “have a ministerial duty not to issue” marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Pope Francis Voices Supports for Mexican Marchers in Anti-Gay Marriage Rally

After having remained quiet while Italy debated civil unions for same-sex couples in May, on Sunday Pope Francis expressed support for the Mexican bishops in their efforts to support the “family and life” amid a burgeoning national debate over gay marriage.
“I join willingly the Bishops of Mexico in supporting the efforts of the Church and civil society in favor of the family and of life, which at this time require special pastoral and cultural attention worldwide,” Francis said after the weekly Angelus prayer.

This should put the final nail in the coffin of any discussion about where the Pope stands. (although I seem to have a constantly replenishing supply of final nails, like Jesus, the Pope's bigotry keeps rising from the grave).

Mexicans march against gay marriage in 122 cities

http://www.catholicherald.co.uk/news/2016/09/15/march-against-same-sex-marriage-in-mexico/

Opponents to the change in constitution believe that reforms will make room for same-sex adoption (currently illegal in Mexico).

A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Mexico City has said that President Peña Nieto’s proposals felt like a “terrible stab in the back” to the Catholic hierarchy with whom he had previously had a good relationship.

A Grand National March in Mexico City has been organised for September 24.

Camden (NJ) Diocese: Student Athletes Who Don’t Stand for the Anthem Will Be Suspended… or Worse

Proud to have Colin Kaepernick on the 49ers, the issue here is police brutality. Makes it easy to spot the bad guys, for example:

Superintendent Mary P. Boyle addressed the letter to school presidents, principals, athletic directors and coaches.

“In light of the recent controversy regarding the NFL player’s refusal to stand for the National Anthem, I seek to clarify the position of the Office of Catholic Schools,” Boyle wrote. “… Our schools are founded on the teaching of respect and honor; respect and honor for God, country and duly appointed authority.

“It is expected that our administration and coaches as well as our athletes will show respect during prayer, pledges and the playing or singing of the National Anthem. … We are not public institutions and free speech in all of its demonstrations, including protests is not a guaranteed right. Failure to demonstrate appropriate respect will result in suspension from play (2 games) or dismissal from the team for subsequent offenses.“

Thank you Bernie for making California matter

Far too often California is disenfranchised and doesn't even get to vote in primaries, and in GEs they try to call it before the end of the work day to suppress the vote here.

They have been trying to tell us that our votes don't matter, that our voices shouldn't be heard. Ever since Clinton's big win in Iowa we've been told that the race is done. We have 700 delegates that only Bernie is honoring. Everywhere I have traveled has Bernie signs. He understands that we are far too often disrespected by the establishment.

Where California goes, the nation follows.
