Something stung my thumb last night.

I was almost asleep last night when my thumb began to sting. I mean fire ant type sting and I have had experience with that. I cut the light on and tried to find whatever it was that bit me but I found nothing. I can't think of any 'disease' that would cause this. I put some Benadryl on it and eventually it calmed down. I have a red area on my thumb this morning.

I have tiny monsters with teeth in my bedroom. Halp!

Oh hell no! Millions of spiders just rained from the sky in Australia

Millions of tiny spiders recently fell from the sky in Australia, alarming residents whose properties were suddenly covered with not only the creepy critters, but also mounds of their silky threads. But that's not where the frightful news ends: Experts say that such arachnid rains aren't as uncommon as you might think.
This month's spider downpour in the country's Southern Tablelands region is just the most recent example of a phenomenon commonly known as "spider rain" or, in some circles, "angel hair," because of the silky, hairlike threads the spiders leave behind. Ian Watson, who lives in the region affected by the spooky shower, took to Facebook to describe what this strange "weather" looks like, according to the Goulburn Post.



"Anyone else experiencing this "Angel Hair" or maybe aka millions of spiders falling from the sky right now? I'm 10 minutes out of town, and you can clearly see hundreds of little spiders floating along with their webs and my home is covered in them. Someone call a scientist!" So, here at Live Science, call a scientist (or two) is exactly what we did. Rick Vetter, a retired arachnologist at the University of California, Riverside, said Watson and his neighbors likely saw a form of spider transportation known as ballooning.

FBI investigating whether Amtrak train was hit by an object. Another train in the area was.

The National Transportation Safety Board has asked the FBI to examine window damage to determine whether an Amtrak train was hit by an object before it derailed in Philadelphia, the latest step after investigators on Friday questioned the engineer, who said he could not recall details of the crash.

Safety board member Robert Sumwalt said investigators asked the FBI to examine what appears to be circular damage in the left-hand lower portion of the Amtrak train’s windshield. No projectile was found inside the locomotive, he said.

An unnamed assistant conductor in the cafe car told investigators of a radio conversation she heard between Brandon Bostian, the engineer of the Amtrak train, and another engineer in a regional commuter train. The local engineer said the train had been “hit by a rock or shot at,” Sumwalt said. The unidentified assistant conductor told investigators that she thought she heard Bostian say his train had also been struck.

According to Andrew Busch, a spokesman for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), which operates the local trains, there was an incident involving a damaged windshield to one of its trains on Tuesday night, when the Amtrak derailment occurred.

I remember when I first read the story, there was a mention of another train being hit by something. I wondered why they weren't bringing that up.
I guess they were busy sorting out the basics and that was not on their minds. I'm glad they are looking into this.

Why is North Korea executing high-level officials with anti-aircraft guns?

North Korea has reportedly executed a top official, Defense Minister Hyon Yong Chol, in a most North Korean manner: by shooting him to pieces with an anti-aircraft gun in front of a crowd of hundreds of other officials.

That's according to South Korea's intelligence service, which has a history of exaggerating reports about North Korea that make the country look bad. But there's reason to believe this could have actually happened — and that it could speak volumes about North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's hold on power.

First, the official story, according to South Korean intelligence: Kim Jong Un allegedly deemed his defense minister, Hyon Yong Chol, disloyal for dozing off during high-level events and for second-guessing Kim's orders. (You can bet the truth is probably closer to second-guessing, or outright insubordination, than it is to unauthorized napping.) On April 30, Hyon was stood before an anti-aircraft gun — which is essentially a mobile platform of four machine guns large and powerful enough to shoot down an airplane — and executed.

The Humane Society there should be ashamed of their part in it.
If the cat had to be killed, they should have found a humane way. They obviously can't shoot worth a damn.
