The letter was penned by Londoner Arthur Hicks and titled "An Open Letter to LIAT."

Dear LIAT,

May I say how considerate it is of you to enable your passengers such an in-depth and thorough tour of the Caribbean.

Most other airlines I have travelled on would simply wish to take me from point A to B in rather a hurry. I was intrigued that we were allowed to stop at not a lowly one or two but a magnificent six airports yesterday. And who wants to fly on the same airplane the entire time? We got to change and refuel every step of the way!

I particularly enjoyed sampling the security scanners at each and every airport. I find it preposterous that people imagine them all to be the same. And as for being patted down by a variety of islanders, well, I feel as if I've been hugged by most of the Caribbean already. I also found it unique that this was all done on "island time," because I do like to have time to absorb the atmosphere of the various departure lounges. As for our arrival, well, who wants to have to take a ferry at the end of all that flying anyway? I'm glad the boat was long gone by the time we arrived into Tortola last night -- and that all those noisy bars and restaurants were closed.

So thank you, LIAT. I now truly understand why you are "The Caribbean Airline."

P.S. Keep the bag. I never liked it anyway.

Lt.Gov.Dewhurst & AG Greg Abbott Consider Charges Against Student Who Led Eyes of Texas Singing

Leigh Larson, a leader of and organizer with College Kids For Wendy, is now becoming another face of the movement to Stand With Texas Women. Much like Martha Northington, Larson has received a lot of plaudits for leading the "Eyes of Texas" in the Capitol Rotunda at the end of Tuesday night's citizen filibuster.

Now Lt. Governor David Dewhurst may have his eyes on her. She has received notice that the Lt. Governor and Attorney General Greg Abbott may be considering pressing charges on her along with others for "disturbing the peace" and "inciting a riot".

I was sitting with Leigh when she first heard the rumor and she had the following response:
"I'm not gonna worry about it, I have a Spanish test on Tuesday."

Brilliant. I imagine Ann Richards would be proud.

The past few days have seen Dewhurst go off the rails in his attempt to explain what happened that night the Senate gallery was forcibly cleared. Rumors are floating around that he is considering arresting House members who were on the Senate floor, and has publicly stated that he will look at tapes to determine if he can prove members of the media were stoking the crowd. However, he has since dropped the idea of charges for media.

The Archbishop Of Canterbury invites the moneylenders back into the church:

Two thousand years after the financial services industry was ejected from church premises, the Archbishop of Canterbury not only wants to invite the money-changers back in – he wants churchgoers to help them expand their lending.

Justin Welby is promoting credit unions as a credible alternative to the booming £2bn payday lending industry, and says it will help match often vulnerable, low-income borrowers with the most appropriate lenders. He is proposing that credit unions be allowed to use church halls and other properties in order to better access customers. Welby also wants to encourage churchgoers with financial expertise to help these lenders.

Welby, who sat on the parliamentary commission on banking standards and has been an outspoken critic of the financial industry, believes a successful credit union sector could pose a challenge to high-street and internet payday lenders, who target often vulnerable borrowers with expensive loans.

Malcolm Brown, the Church of England's director of mission and public affairs, yesterday said: "It is not about regulating them [payday lenders] out of business. If the market is functioning as it should, there should not be any need for them to exist."

The government has also pledged to spend £38m to strengthen credit unions.

Oregon cracks down on supposed charities:

A new law makes Oregon the first state in the nation to crack down on charities that spend little of their money on their missions.

House Bill 2060, signed by the governor this month, will eliminate state and local tax subsidies for charities that spend more than 70 percent of donations on management and fundraising, rather than programs and services, over a three-year period.

“No other state has done this. We’re the first in the country and we should be proud of that,” said Jim White, executive director of the Nonprofit Association of Oregon.
