I completely accept the bottom line of the OP and the spirit in which it is offered, but I don't think money has much to do with this.
They love Trump because he has the same enemies they do. ("owning the Libs" )
"Religious freedoms" (translation: Christian Privilege)
The Racism Agenda
Guns
Hate and terror of "globalization", "socialism" and "tyrannical government"
Living in a blistering red area, I see up close what the Trumpsters value. Many of them live in dilapidated homes and don't even know the names of our stock markets.
Katherine Stewart and Sara Posner, in their respective books, make a
powerful argument that Trumpism existed before Trump, and that it will continue on afterwards, although where it goes remains to be seen. They both argue that it can be traced back to the 1960s Civil Rights movement.
Katherine Stewart: The Power Worshippers
Sarah Posner: Unholy
I LOVE this line:
I mostly agree with you. However, I think there is some truth to the
"Hidden Trump Voter" too.
I don't think it's conspiracy thinking at all to wonder about Russian interference. Hell, the former Chief of the Counterespionage Section of the FBI, Peter Strzok, has warned about this, as have dozens of other current and former Intel people. The most worrisome scenario is one in which, say, every 15th vote is changed and it's not possible to see that something has been placed in the election system.
But at this point I'm leaning towards: USPS failure (by design) and the Unpolled Trump Voter who in some cases is a member of a far right Christian church (nationalist or reconstructionist).
Well, I love your post. But I also agree with Don Winslow's tweet:
https://twitter.com/donwinslow/status/1323912044559568896I'm sure it helped, but we have been moving in that direction for awhile.
Remember Kyrsten Sinema's decisive victory over Martha McSally in 2016. Sinema led in the polls the entire time, and her lead widened the more votes were counted, until the race was called five or six days later.
There's been talk about AZ going blue since Obama ran for re-election, so I don't think it's that much on Cindy McCain, although it was definitely a great endorsement.
I'm thrilled beyond words that we have two Dem senators.
Now we need to get rid of Doug Ducey and get a blue governor.
Let's bypass Impeachment and proceed straight to a Grand Jury. What DeJoy did was criminal.
I haven't made any predictions about who is going to prison except for one:
And that's DeJoy. He's going away when the dust settles.
I still love the country, but I despise that 40% of my fellow Americans
don't understand the fundamental principles of our founding, and are ready to give up democracy because they don't really understand why they suffer and have been told to blame progressive policies.
It comes down to: how much compassion can one have for people who are severely ignorant and gullible?
Exactly. I didn't understand how the interests of the Alt-Right and Christian
Nationalists intersected until I read The Power Worshippers by Katherine Stewart and Unholy by Sara Posner.
This is something we cannot ignore any longer. Although, I am not sure how we fight it. It is global and extremely well funded.
I'm on the same wavelength. It's very hard to accept what is becoming too obvious to
ignore. A huge segment of our population would accept authoritarian dictatorship and has had enough of democracy. People here will say, "We knew that," but in fairness I didn't know the number of them was so great.
This is going to be the conflict of our times. Hyperpartisan populism is on the upswing in Europe too.
It's almost unspeakable: people are rejecting Democracy. They want a strongman to tell them what to do and make every problem go away.
