Gun nuts freak out over Texas students’ #CocksNotGlocks open carry protest

University of Texas students announced a plan to openly carry dildos in response to a new “campus carry” law that takes effect next year.

The Facebook page for the group Campus (DILDO) Carry has since been flooded with abuse, which moderators are leaving in place to show the kind of aggressive hostility open carry zealots display when they find out they’re being mocked.

The group was founded in protest of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R)’s signing of S.B. 11, a so-called “campus carry” law which says “license holders may carry a concealed handgun throughout university campuses, starting Aug. 1, 2016.”

According to the Houston Chronicle, the #CocksNotGlocks protesters intend to openly carry brightly colored sex toys on campus in protest.

“You’re carrying a gun to class?” wrote group founder Jessica Jin on Facebook. “Yeah well I’m carrying a HUGE DILDO. Just about as effective at protecting us from sociopathic shooters, but much safer for recreational play.”

Jin invited like-minded protesters to join the group on Aug. 1, 2016 — the first day of fall semester — for a group “strap in.”

As of press time, 2,000 people said they intend to go to the rally.

U.S. Deportation Rates Hit A 10-Year Low

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration deported fewer immigrants over the past 12 months than at any time since 2006, according to internal figures obtained by The Associated Press as Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton called Obama's deportation policies too harsh.

Deportations of criminal immigrants have fallen to the lowest levels since President Barack Obama took office in 2009, despite his pledge to focus on finding and deporting criminals living in the country illegally. The share of criminal immigrants deported in relation to overall immigrants deported rose slightly, from 56 percent to 59 percent.

The overall total of 231,000 deportations generally does not include Mexicans who were caught at the border and quickly returned home by the U.S. Border Patrol. The figure does include roughly 136,700 convicted criminals deported in the last 12 months.

Total deportations dropped 42 percent since 2012.

‘Jessica Jones’ Pilot Review: Marvel Goes Even Darker in Their New Netflix Series

With the final reels of Marvel’s first episode of Netflix’s Jessica Jones, the audience of nearly 5,000 people at the New York City Comic Con went silent. Having just entered the world of Jessica Jones, viewers traveled down a road of a former superhero, now private investigator, as she made a futile attempt to overcome the darkness of her past through alcohol, sex, and visits to a therapist. Krysten Ritter, no stranger to creating fully developed characters in series such as Breaking Bad and Don’t Trust the B– in Apartment 23, is able to fully flesh out the titular character here, delivering hard hits and even harder quips. Jones attempts to wade through the dark and gritty streets of Marvel’s New York City, taking jobs from law firms, distraught parents, and anyone who is willing to pay her fees as a private eye.

The world presented to us here is bursting with ancillary characters who are able to weave an intricate web around the proceedings, making sure that not a minute of story is wasted. It’s an admirable feat to see Marvel attempt to create a setting so mired in darkness and apprehension, while also remembering that Tony Stark is putting on a red and gold suit or armor, and Thor is hitting frost giants with his hammer worlds away. Jessica is joined in her “adventures” by another Marvel superhero, Luke Cage (Mike Colter), whose series from Netflix will follow Jessica Jones and the second season of Daredevil. The two certainly have a relationship here similar to the one they had in the Marvel Comic series, Alias (the original title of Jessica Jones’ first series), though there are enough questions presented here that viewers may not know exactly where it is headed by episodes end.

On the villain front is David Tennant’s gloriously horrific portrayal of Zebediah Killgrave, aka the Purple Man. Tennant is no stranger to being a villain, as he played the role Barty Crouch Junior in the Harry Potter series, but here, you can almost paint him as the Marvel Universe’s Freddy Krueger. His shadow claws across the episode. Like a ghost in the night, his name is mentioned with a hushed terror by every character who knows of him. His powers are downright scary, especially considering the character himself and how he utilizes them. Marvel’s Cinematic Universe has always had difficulty creating villains that had the same lasting power as their heroes, acting mostly as obstacles at best and stepping stones at worst for the heroes in their paths. Here though, expect to see Tennant ascend to the same level as Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Vincent D’onfrio’s Wilson Fisk as one of the cornerstones of villainy in the MCU.

Aside from Tennant and Colter, Carrie Anne Moss of The Matrix fame joins the cast as Jeryn Hogarth, a leading attorney at one of New York’s most prestigious law firms. Moss is on a similar level as Jones, able to keep pace with her sharp wit, and her character is draped in enough mystery to keep you guessing while also holding your interest. Rachael Taylor also joins the cast as Trish Walker, New York’s leading talk radio hostess. In the comics, she patrols the streets as the superhero, Hellcat. Her character acts as a nice foil to Jones, as she is almost a representation of Jessica if everything gone right in her life.

Ant-Man Sequel Will Be Called 'Ant-Man and The Wasp'.

So, let's just go ahead and say that this wasn't news anyone was expecting to drop today. Following the film's massive success both critically and at the box office, Marvel Studios has made a "big" update to their Phase Three line-up. The sequel to this year's "little" surprise, titled Ant-Man And The Wasp, will be hitting theaters on July 6, 2018.

Additionally, to fit the film into their line-up, Marvel Studios will move Black Panther to February 16, 2018 and Captain Marvel to March 8, 2019. Surprisingly no shift in the release date for Inhumans though. With this announcement also came the reveal of three untitled Marvel Studios films that will premiere on May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020. It's highly likely that one of these could be a sequel to the currently untitled Spider-Man film. Keep checking back for more updates regarding these projects and let us know what you think in the comments below.

If you read only one comic storyline, it has to be Batman: Court of Owls.

I just finished Court of Owls and was blown away. It makes up the first 8 issues of Batman beginning in 2011 and crosses over in a few other titles (although you can just stick to the core issues). It's been decades since a comic story kept me glued to the pages and on the edge of my seat. I hope, I hope and I hope that this will be the story in the solo Batman film scheduled for release in a few years under the DCRU. WOW!!!

Urban Outfitters asks employees to work for free

With the peak shopping season approaching, Urban Outfitters is asking its employees to pitch in a bit more on the weekends. But there's a catch: they won't get paid for it.

In an email obtained by Gawker this week, the Philadelphia-based retailer told salaried employees that it was looking for weekend volunteers to help "pick, pack and prepare packages" for wholesale and direct customers.

Urban Outfitters, which operates its namesake brand along with Anthropologie and Free People said it would be a great "team building activity." Employees can sign up throughout the five weekends during the busy month of October. The company will offer transportation and lunch to those willing to show a little team spirit.

Urban Outfitters told CNBC it "received a tremendous response" from employees.

"Many hourly employees also offered to pitch in — an offer which we appreciated, but declined in order to ensure full compliance with all applicable labor laws and regulations," a company spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Holy crap the squirrels are working like crazy.

Almost ten years living in NorCal and I've never seen the squirrels work in October with the same urgency that I see now. Could that mean we have a tough winter ahead of us?

Kasich To Female College Student: 'I'm Sure You Get Invited To All The Parties'

Republican presidential candidate and Ohio Gov. John Kasich reportedly told a female student at the University of Richmond Monday that he was sure she was invited "to all the parties," according to the college student newspaper.

During a town hall campaign stop at the college campus, Kasich reportedly told a female student with a laugh, "I’m sorry, I don’t have any Taylor Swift tickets” when she "was nearly jumping out of her seat to get noticed," The Collegian reported.

At another point, he told another female student, "I’m sure you get invited to all
of the parties,” according to the college paper.

Several 2016 hopefuls have made offensive comments about women including Republican candidate Donald Trump who said Fox News host Megyn Kelly looked like she had blood "coming out of her wherever" when she asked about his derogatory comments about women, and Republican candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee who said before he launched his campaign that female presidential candidates should be treated with "a sense of a pedestal."

"Good guy with a gun" opens fire on shoplifter.

Auburn Hills — Police responding to a “shots fired” call at a Home Depot store said a customer apparently tried to stop a shoplifter by firing at a fleeing vehicle.

The incident occurred at 2 p.m. at the store on Joslyn, according to a police press release.

A 47- year-old Clarkston woman in the parking lot witnessed one of the store’s loss prevention officers trying to stop a shoplifting suspect getting into a dark colored SUV. The customer — identified as a concealed pistol license holder — reportedly fired shots at the dark-colored SUV as it sped out of the lot.

It’s unknown how many rounds were fired from her 9mm handgun, but police believe she hit and flattened one of the vehicle’s rear tires as it sped off in the direction of Brown Road.

Martin O’Malley: Sanders Doesn’t Think We Should Have “Common Sense Gun Safety Requirements”

Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley took aim at his Democratic presidential opponent Bernie Sanders on Monday, saying the senator from Vermont is out of step with the party on guns.

“I think his opinions and his position on this are different than the mainstream of the Democratic Party anyway,” O’Malley said of Sanders on local New Hampshire Concord News Radio.

“He voted against the Brady Bill and is someone who has at times even advanced pet pieces of legislation like the immunity for gun manufactures, one of the few things he’s gotten through Congress,” O’Malley added in a jab at Sander’s legislature career.

As O’Malley noted, Sanders as a member of House of Representatives voted against the Brady Bill — which instituted a waiting period for handgun purchases and required background checks for those seeking to buy guns from federally-licensed firearms dealers. Sanders said that year, “people pull the trigger, not the guns themselves.”
