Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Gets The Job Done – Mark Brewer, Not So Much

"Today, Mike Tait, chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party announced that Wisconsin has collected over 500,000 signatures for the recall of Governor Scott Walker.

Wisconsin is well on its way to an election to toss Scott Walker out of office.

As a member of the Democratic Party, I wonder why won’t Mark Brewer, Chair of the Democratic Party in Michigan, get behind a recall effort of Governor Rick Snyder. Snyder’s policies and those of the Republicans in Michigan have been even more devastating to democracy in Michigan than Walker’s policies in Wisconsin, yet Brewer sits on the sidelines, leaving the grassroots to try to recall Snyder with no assistance from the Democratic Party of Michigan.

Maybe it’s time to get elect a new chair of the Democratic Party of Michigan, one that will stand with the people of the state of Michigan in an attempt to get our democracy back from the radical politicians occupying the state house in Lansing."

I'm sorry, but I hate the title of this group with a passion.

Why do we have to turn a verb into a noun?

MN GOPer Resigns Leadership Post Over Alleged ‘Inappropriate Relationship’

Minnesota’s Republican Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch abruptly resigned from her leadership post this week, and there are now allegations that she had an “inappropriate relationship” with a subordinate staffer.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that Koch’s fellow Republicans confronted her about the alleged relationship. When Koch was confronted, she neither confirmed nor denied the relationship. “I think I need to consider resigning,” she said, according to the paper.

“There is no doubt that a manager cannot have such a relationship with someone they oversee, whose budget they oversee,” interim Senate Majority Leader Geoff Michel (R) said at a news conference Friday. “It’s pretty clear. That kind of relationship is inappropriate, it raises a conflict of interest and it creates … an unstable, unsustainable work environment for our staff.”

Did Chicago Bears turn a blind eye to Hurd's drug dealing?

The bigger the scandal, the harder people start trying to clear themselves and cover their backsides. So Chicago Bears receiver Sam Hurd appeared in shackles in court Friday on major drug charges, accused of being part of a drug ring and reportedly dealing to other players.

And the Bears? They cut Hurd on Friday, and then general manager Jerry Angelo spent the bulk of a news conference explaining how it wasn’t the Bears’ fault, how they couldn’t have known. By the time he was done, you’d have thought the Bears barely even knew who Hurd was, much less how he ended up on the roster.

“We do our homework on players,’’ Angelo said Friday afternoon. “We have a very sound and tested (methodology) ... For me to sit here and say we should have known something that we didn’t know, no, I can’t say that is the case. There’s no foundation for anybody to say that. There are no facts. There’s no flags that anybody could present tangibly to say that we should’ve known otherwise.’’

Oh, shut up. No one had even asked him about the Bears.

But now that he brings it up ..

Sandusky lawyer: Showers were lessons in hygiene.

The newest attorney to join the Jerry Sandusky defense team says that the former Penn State football coach showered with young boys because the kids lacked basic hygiene skills and needed to be taught.

Sandusky is charged with more than 50 counts of child sex abuse against 10 young boys and he has repeatedly admitted to showering with children he mentored through his Second Mile charity.

"Some of these kids don't have basic hygiene skills," attorney Karl Rominger told abc27 News Tuesday. "Teaching a person to shower at the age of 12 or 14 sounds strange to some people, but people who work with troubled youth will tell you there are a lot of juvenile delinquents and people who are dependent who have to be taught basic life skills like how to put soap on their body."

Rominger later clarified his statement to NBCPhiladelphia.com's Lu Ann Cahn.

"The question was, 'could you come up with any possible explanation why an adult male would be in the shower,' and gave a possible explanation," Rominger said.

Senator Cantwell Attacked By Challenger For Being Unmarried

From the department of inappropriate attacks, a challenger to Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) accused her of supporting access to Plan B for minors because she is not married.

In an email to supporters Thursday, State Sen. Michael Baumgartner (R), slammed Cantwell for her support of making Plan B available to minors — a policy recently supported by the FDA but overturned by the Obama administration. According to the Seattle Times, the email noted that Cantwell is unmarried and votes frequently - as the email put it - to “undermine the role of parents in child rearing.”

Last week, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius overrode a decision by the FDA to make Plan B available without a prescription to minors, questioning the judgment of minors who would be accessing it over-the-counter. Cantwell signed a letter with 13 other Senators asking Secretary Sebelius for a scientific justification for the decision.

Republican mayor caught spending city funds at gay sex shop.

Receipts from embattled Southaven Mayor Greg Davis reveal that he had the city pay for wide-ranging expenses including thousands of dollars worth of liquor, expensive dinners at a local restaurant and a visit to an adult store catering to gay men while on a recruitment trip to Canada.

As details emerged Thursday from the receipts, provided by state auditors to Southaven aldermen and subsequently obtained by The Commercial Appeal, Davis conceded publicly for the first time in an interview with The CA that he is gay and has struggled to keep the issue from affecting his public life as mayor of Mississippi's third-largest city.

"At this point in my life and in my career, while I have tried to maintain separation between my personal and public life, it is obvious that this can no longer remain the case," Davis said Thursday afternoon at his Southaven home. "While I have performed my job as mayor, in my opinion, as a very conservative, progressive individual -- and still continue to be a very conservative individual -- I think that it is important that I discuss the struggles I have had over the last few years when I came to the realization that I am gay."

As for the receipts, Davis, a Republican who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2008 on a conservative, family-values platform, said he couldn't discuss specifics on the advice of his attorney.
