To Combat Trump, Democrats Ready a G.O.P. Tactic: Lawsuits

One attorney general, Eric T. Schneiderman, is already investigating Donald J. Trump over possible violations of New York State law at his charity foundation.

Another, Maura Healey of Massachusetts, has joined Mr. Schneiderman in an investigation into whether Exxon Mobil — whose chief executive, Rex W. Tillerson, is Mr. Trump’s choice for secretary of state — lied to investors and the public about the threat of climate change.

Ms. Healey also has a new fund-raising pitch: “I won’t hesitate to take Donald Trump to court if he carries out his unconstitutional campaign promises,” she recently wrote to supporters.

A third, Representative Xavier Becerra, who was chosen this month to become California’s attorney general, has dared the Trump administration to “come at us” over issues including immigration, climate change and health care.

As Democrats steel themselves for the day next month when the White House door will slam on their backs, some of the country’s more liberal state attorneys general have vowed to use their power to check and balance Mr. Trump’s Washington.

If the Trump administration withdraws from environmental, antitrust or financial regulations, the attorneys general say they will plug regulatory holes that may gape wide open, deploying state laws like New York’s Martin Act, which allows the state attorney general to pursue wide-ranging investigations on Wall Street.

Philippine lawmakers file criminal case against Duterte critic

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte's allies in Congress on Tuesday filed a criminal complaint against a senator who has been an outspoken critic of a surge of extrajudicial killings unleashed by the president's campaign against drugs.

The legal complaint against Senator Leila de Lima, who was justice minister in a previous administration, is the latest government action against her since she led an inquiry into the killings.

She has denounced the government attacks on her as "madness" and "harassment" and she has appealed to Duterte to stop the string of bizarre accusations and insults.

Senators loyal to Duterte ousted her from the leadership of the investigation in September.

Congressmen then accused her of disrespect in connection with criticism she made of her treatment and the fate of the inquiry. That led to a criminal complaint.

"Senator de Lima has shown disrespect to the House of Representatives," said Congressman Reynaldo Umali, head of the lower house's justice panel.

"We cannot allow this incident to pass, how can we earn the respect of the people when a senator insults us by calling the inquiry a sham and a kangaroo court."

De Lima is on an official trip to the United States and Europe and was not available for comment.

Duterte's war on drugs, the key plank of his campaign for a May election, has claimed about 5,000 lives since July 1.

Donald Trump Eyes Carly Fiorina for Director of National Intelligence

She met with the President-elect on Monday.

Donald Trump is considering Carly Fiorina, the former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard and Republican presidential candidate, for director of national intelligence, the New York Times reported.

Fiorina met with the president-elect at Trump Tower on Monday to discuss the role, an unnamed transition official told the Times.

“We talked about hacking, whether it’s Chinese hacking or purported Russian hacking,” Fiorina said. “We talked about the opportunity that the president-elect has to literally reset things, to reset the trajectory of this economy, to reset the role of government, to reset America’s role in the world and how we’re perceived in the world. And I think it’s why he’s getting such fantastic people in his administration.”

The director of national intelligence leads the U.S. Intelligence community and advises the president on intelligence matters.

Ivanka Trump's Boots Are Getting Some Interesting Reviews on Amazon

Ivanka Trump’s role as the placeholder for those who take issue with her father’s policy stances and public sentiments continues. First there was the letter from the jewelry designers who told the mother and businesswoman that the proceeds from her purchase with them were being donated to support organizations that do work that is threatened by her father’s stances. Next came the #DearIvanka vigil (and sardonic Instagram posts).

The latest form of peaceful protest? Amazon reviews.

And around Ivanka Trump brand boots, especially.

Reads one review, titled, “You get what you ask for. Boots edition.”:

These boots are perfectly designed to trample on fellow Americans’ Civil Rights Day or Night. Your legs will be enclosed in a tight, made-somewhere-that-is-not-America material that will squeeze all the blood from your brain, resulting in blind admiration of demagoguery. All the while, your feet will continue to atrophy as they are are squeezed into a fetishized version of the female body which likely will not include making decisions on its behalf. That said, you get what you ask for.

These are really really restrictive and tight – no wiggle room for any kind of freedom of thought. Can you get sued for writing a bad review of a product? Anyway, these boots might fit a person that is male, straight, white and Christian but if you don’t fit all these criteria, they are NOT the boots for you! They are made in a sweatshop by child labor in a foreign country because that’s called being smart. I heard they are going to move manufacturing to Taiwan, which may make them better but who knows. Everyone keeps telling me to wait and see. They are certainly not comfortable enough to stand in for four years.

I was feeling way over confident and I needed to be put in my place. These ill-fitting boots are a perfect reminder that I should be seen, admired for my womanly “virtues”, rated in a scale from 1-10, and occasionally grabbed by my kitty cat. With these boots I feel like I am closer to the beautiful glass ceilings that allow natural light in to our offices – but certainly not close enough to break them.

Ivanka Trump Auctions Herself for $50,000

Ivanka Trump is offering deep-pocketed bidders a chance to chat with her over coffee for a cool $50,000.

In a listing posted last week on auction site Charitybuzz, the daughter of the President-elect and Trump Organization executive vice president volunteered 30-45 minutes of her time for a “private meet and greet.” The two winners, who must pass criminal background checks and be approved by the Secret Service, will have the opportunity to meet with Ivanka Trump sometime in 2017.

Though the listing makes reference only to her business experience and family with husband Jared Kushner, it speaks to the blurred line between her political and business roles.

Winners will meet with Trump either “at Trump Tower in NYC or Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.,” depending on her schedule. The listing says Secret Service agents will sit in on the coffee date to ensure her safety.

Already, 14 bidders have ponied up huge sums in the hopes of meeting the real estate heir and beauty mogul. While the coffee date is valued at $50,000, the highest bid as of Monday afternoon was $23,000.

Donald Trump Interviewed Mitt Romney to Torture Him, Roger Stone Says

Donald Trump’s long-time but informal adviser Roger Stone says the Secretary of State job was dangled in front of Mitt Romney in order to “torture” him for previously opposing the president-elect.

During a Sunday appearance on InfoWars with Alex Jones, a conspiratorial media outlet that has become a mouthpiece of the next president, Stone called Romney a “choker” and said that Trump was simply toying with him.

“Donald Trump was interviewing Mitt Romney for Secretary of State in order to torture him,” Stone claimed on the program. “To toy with him. And given the history, that’s completely understandable. Mitt Romney crossed a line. He didn’t just oppose Trump, which is his democratic right, he called him a phony and a fraud. And a con man. And that’s not the kind of man you want as Secretary of State.”

Stone’s involvement with the current transition efforts is unclear as he is not formally advising Trump. But the two men have kept a close relationship for years and Stone claims that he was at Trump Tower last week. The transition team did not respond to a request for confirmation about his presence from The Daily Beast.

I'm not fighting over how we lost.

I don't have the mental strength to go over how we lost the election but suffice to say this deadest had many fathers. And I'm definitely in no mood to point fingers at anyone but Comey, the Russians and the MSM and what's facing us is bigger than any candidate, party or movement. If the country survives, it will be because the center, left And a few sane conservatives work together over the next four years.
