How the Intercept Is Fueling the Democratic Civil War

Founded in 2014 by muckraking national security journalists Glenn Greenwald, Laura Poitras and Jeremy Scahill, the Intercept is still best-known for its first incarnation as an obsessive anti-surveillance reporting enterprise, and an activist voice for privacy and civil liberties—more anti-government than partisan. It built its reputation by publishing stories based on top-secret National Security Agency documents leaked by Edward Snowden; it also exposed the controversial U.S. drone strike program and revealed how a British intelligence agency sought to digitally surveil every Internet user.

But in the past few years, and especially in the aftermath of the 2016 campaign, the Intercept has taken a sharp turn into party politics. With a hard-charging Washington bureau chief, Ryan Grim, driving its political coverage, the Intercept has taken a more classic “gotcha” approach to campaign reporting, and landed in a unique spot in the media ecosystem—as the loudest voice attacking Democrats from the left.

As the party grapples with fractures emerging in its coalition, the Intercept is a crowbar working those fractures apart, probing hard at fault lines like criminal justice reform, “Medicare for All,” the “Green New Deal,” racial justice and corporate funding of candidates like Kelly. The outlet has become a routine headache for the Democratic establishment and its leadership. It published a leaked recording of then-House Democratic Whip now-Majority Leader Steny Hoyer pressuring a progressive Colorado primary candidate to drop out of a race. By far its favorite target has been the party organization that works to elect Democrats to the House, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which the Intercept has repeatedly pilloried for seeking to kneecap a new wave of insurgent lefties. In a March story, the Intercept hammered the DCCC for moving to blacklist consultants working with primary challengers to Democratic incumbents.

The Intercept has also offered a platform to the candidates it favors. During the 2016 presidential primary, the site was one of the few outlets to take Bernie Sanders seriously early on, and its coverage of the 2018 midterms helped to promote progressive outsiders like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib.

Trump wil skip ceremony for black Teacher of the Year

President Donald Trump is expected to take a pass on handing out this year's National Teacher of the Year award honors — forgoing a tradition that dates to President Harry Truman.

This year's award winner is Rodney Robinson, a social studies teacher in a juvenile detention center in Richmond, Va. Robinson will be honored Monday by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on the White House grounds, a DeVos spokesperson said.

Nancy Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the Council of Chief State School Officers, which organizes the program, said in an email that it's the council's understanding that Trump won't be in attendance. She said that while U.S. presidents have often given out the award, the group is aware of at least nine other instances when someone else — such as the vice president or first lady — has done so. The award program started in 1952.

Last year, Trump awarded the honor to Mandy Manning, who teaches English to refugees and immigrants in Washington state. At the White House event, Manning handed Trump a letter from a Rwandan immigrant student that urged the president to “take care” with his language about immigrant and refugee communities. She also wore a pin that read “Trans Equality Now.”

Avengers 4: Woman Reportedly Hospitalized Due To Uncontrollable Sobbing

"Avengers: Endgame" marks a major moment for Marvel and its cinematic universe, so it's no surprise that fans are getting emotional seeing the film.

But one woman was reportedly so overwhelmed she had to go to the hospital afterward.

According to reports, the 21-year-old woman in China was uncontrollably sobbing during the film and afterward she was short of breath and her hands and feet felt numb.

An emergency room doctor told Chinanews.com that they believe the woman was suffering from hyperventilation. The woman recovered after doctors gave her oxygen and got her symptoms under control.

"Avengers: Endgame" earned a record $60 million from Thursday night showings in North America, according to the Walt Disney Co. Internationally, Disney said the film has already brought in $305 million in its first two days in theaters.

Avengers 4: Man Reportedly Beaten Up For Revealing Spoilers Outside Theater

The Russo Brothers (directors of Avengers: Endgame) may have put out an open letter on social media for the public to avoid giving spoilers but that doesn't seem to have deterred those who have watched it.

Recently, a photo has been making the rounds online, showing a bloody man that seems to have been beaten up for giving out spoilers outside the cinema.

It's reported that this incident happened outside a cinema in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.

The highly anticipated film opened in theatres on April 24 in countries like Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea.

According to Taiwanese media, a man dressed in white, who seemed to have just exited the cinema after watching the three-hour movie, started revealing spoilers loudly by the entrance.

Cinemagoers who were waiting to enter the doors were fuming and some reportedly went to beat the man up to teach him a lesson.

Georgia High School Asks Students Not To Spoil 'Avengers: Endgame' In Class

Avengers: Endgame finally opens in theaters tonight and many Marvel fans are asking one another not to spoil the film too early. Marvel Studios has kept much of the story within Avengers: Endgame’s three-hour runtime under wraps, aside from leaked footage that hit the internet last week. Many fans would like to keep the spoilers as secret as possible until after the film opens this weekend, including the staff of a high school in Georgia.

One Marvel fan who attends the Lanier High School in Georgia recently took to Reddit to show a notice that the school sent out in regards to the opening of Avengers: Endgame. In the letter, the Georgia high school asks that students not spoil the film’s story tomorrow before everyone gets a chance to see it. Check out the full letter from the school in the post below.
