Joe Biden reacts to NYT headline re. the CV19 death toll.

Joe Biden
@JoeBiden
This is jarring — and a heartbreaking reminder that the death toll we see in the news is so much more than just a statistic. Every single one marks a future cut short and a family and community that will never be the same. @DrBiden and I are keeping them all in our hearts.

Hairstylist with COVID-19 served 84 clients while symptomatic, Missouri officials say

A Great Clips hairstylist exposed dozens of clients to coronavirus while showing symptoms, Missouri health officials say.

The announcement comes as barbers and salon operators and their customers across the U.S. fight to reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Missouri state leaders allowed these businesses to reopen May 4.

“I’m very frustrated to be up here,” Springfield-Greene County Health Department Director Clay Goddard said. “And maybe more so, I’m disappointed.”

The hairstylist exhibited symptoms while working on eight days between May 12 and May 20, health officials said. The health department is providing testing to all people “directly exposed” to the hairstylist. The stylist and clients wore masks during the appointments, officials said.

Texas mayor defends comments saying women shouldn't lead prayer in public

A Texas mayor is facing backlash after he said women shouldn’t lead prayer in public before city council meetings because the Bible forbids it.

Wylie, Texas, Mayor Eric Hogue’s remarks were made in a email to fellow city council members, which was then shared publicly on Facebook this week, The Dallas Morning News reported.

The city’s mayor pro tem, Jeff Forrester, reached out earlier this month and asked for Hogue’s thoughts on having members of the Christian missionary group Youth With A Mission attend the city council's next meeting.

"Sounds good. I would like that. All I ask is that those leading the public prayer be young men," Hogue responded.

Hogue is also a minister of Cottonwood Church of Christ, according to the outlet. He followed up in the email by quoting two New Testament verses that he said his congregation takes “literally.”

Biden wins Hawaii primary

Joe Biden has won the Hawaii primary, picking up 16 delegates, the Hawaii Democratic Party says . Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, now has 1,531 total delegates, still short of the 1,991 needed to clinch the nomination.

Bernie Sanders won 8 delegates. In 2016, Sanders won the state's caucuses, taking 17 delegates to Hillary Clinton's 8.

Hawaii's primary was initially scheduled for April 4 with in-person voting, but was changed to entirely vote-by-mail and postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to CBS Honolulu affiliate KGMB, the decision to make the primary entirely vote-by-mail was made before the state's stay-at-home order went into effect, and most ballots were mailed in early March.

'Impressed you know my name': Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is taking on Trump over coronavi

Ahead of President Donald Trump's trip to a Ford Motor plant in Ypsilanti on Thursday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel wrote him a letter outlining the rules for visiting her state: Masks are required.

Nessel has spent the spring attempting to enforce the executive orders issued by Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, which included one of the nation's strictest lockdown decrees as well as the order mandating face coverings in public. Watching the disease ravage her community, she said in an interview, has been scary.

“At a certain point, my Facebook feed started to resemble the obituary section of a newspaper,” the Democrat told NBC News.

Trump, who has consistently flouted his own government's recommendation that face coverings be worn in public settings, wore a mask for the private portion of his Ford tour but took it off for the public event in front of cameras, despite the Ford facility's own mask requirement.

Frustrated, Nessel did something that caught the president's attention: She compared him to "a petulant child who refuses to follow the rules" on CNN.

Trump responded by trashing her in a pair of tweets, calling her the "Wacky Do Nothing Attorney General of Michigan, Dana Nessel" — to which she responded, in part, that she was "impressed" he knew her name, a nod to Trump's habit of bashing Whitmer as "that woman from Michigan" and his attack on Michigan's elections chief, Jocelyn Benson,as an unnamed "rogue Secretary of State."

“I was infuriated and exasperated, because I know that for every person who goes into a place of business where they’re told to wear a mask, and they see the president not wearing one, their reaction is going to be, 'The president of the United States doesn’t have to wear one. Why should I?'” she said Friday of Trump's Ford visit. “This isn’t funny, these are people's lives.”

Tuesday's Oregon Primary Broke a Turnout Record

Email from the Oregon Democratic Primary:

Oregonians just shattered voter turnout records.

More Oregonians voted in this week’s primary than in any other previous primary in Oregon’s history!

Despite the necessary COVID-19 restrictions and limitations, Oregon voters shocked vote-by-mail naysayers across the country and cast more than 1.3 million ballots in the 2020 primary, even eclipsing the records set in the 2008 and 2016 primaries.

What's more, Oregon Democrats had a higher turnout rate than Oregon Republicans.
