NOT QUITE, NIGE Labour wins Peterborough by-election as Nigel Farage's Brexit Party falls short

LABOUR has won the Peterborough by-election, denying Nigel Farage's Brexit Party a first seat in parliament.

Unite activist Lisa Forbes was elected with a majority of 683 over the Brexit Party's Mike Greene in a closely-fought contest.

It is a disappointing result for Mr Farage's party, given 60% of voters in the area backed Brexit in the 2016 referendum.

He had been hoping his party would secure its first MP less than six months after it formed.

The by-election was called after Peterborough's previous MP Fiona Onasanya was forced out after she was jailed for lying about a speeding offence.

Onasanya was elected as a Labour MP with a water-thin majority of 607 and was suspended from the party after she was sentenced.

I'm coming forward

I've always had a degree of anxiety, but work and family recent put me over the edge. Thankfully, after what I thought was a heart attack, the people at Kaiser have really stepped up and provided a system of support through a combination of therapy and Lexapro (that's still in the process of kicking in).

Please, if you have any resources be it only friend and family, don't bottle yourself up or you'll end up like me.

AND THANK YOU, PRESIDENT OBAMA, FOR ADDING THE MENTAL HEALTH COVERAGE MANDATE TO THE ACA.

China's new high-speed train will 'float' over tracks to hit 370 miles an hour

A sleek prototype of a high-speed train unveiled recently in China is designed to carry passengers at a speed of 600 kilometers per hour, or 370 mph. That’s more than 150 mph faster than the world's fastest passenger trains now in regular intercity service, which touch 217 mph on runs between Beijing and Shanghai.

The new train, under development by the state-owned China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRCC), is designed not to run on rails but to float above the track using a technology known as magnetic levitation, or maglev.

Given the train’s tremendous speed, a trip by train could be even faster than traveling by air under certain circumstances, Ding Sansan, the head of the team developing the new train, told the Chinese newspaper Qingdao Daily. He said a trip from Beijing to Shanghai that might take four and a half hours by plane could be completed in about three and a half hours by the new maglev train.

Some media outlets reported that the train would begin service in 2021, but the company didn’t give an exact date — and rail experts say years of testing will be required before the train is ready to carry passengers.

San Francisco supervisors strike deal to expand forced treatment of mentally ill

San Francisco supervisors struck a deal Monday to support a controversial law that would expand the city’s ability to force seriously mentally ill people into care — but the plan will likely help only about five people.

The Board of Supervisors is expected to approve the legislation on Tuesday, following months of debate over how the city should deal with severely mentally ill people on the streets. The supervisors battled for months over the proposal. But even the legislation’s most ardent supporters say it isn’t the answer to the city’s broken behavioral health care system.

The proposal expands the definition of who is eligible for conservatorship, which is court-ordered mental health treatment. If it passes, the city can impose in-patient treatment on someone if they are severely mentally ill, addicted to drugs and have been taken to an emergency crisis unit — known as a 5150 hold — at least eight times in a year.

While the city’s Department of Public Health estimates the expanded law would help only about five people, the board was fractured over whether the city’s already clogged mental health care system could adequately help more patients.

Gov. Newsom rejects parole for Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California Gov. Gavin Newsom has overruled a parole board's decision to free Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten.

Newsom said Monday that the 69-year-old inmate shouldn't be released. She's spent nearly half a century in prison and received reports of good behavior and testimonials about her rehabilitation.

Van Houten was 19 when she and other followers in Manson's cult fatally stabbed wealthy Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, in August 1969.

The killings came the day after other Manson followers killed pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four others. No one who took part in the Tate-LaBianca murders has been released from prison.

Governors have rejected parole three times for Van Houten.
