The crash at SFO eerily reminds me of the last flight I was on.

Last summer when my son and I were flying home to SFO from Detroit, something happened during landing that scared the crap out me and I will never forget it to this day. The plan was in descent, landing gear down and I was feeling happy to know that we would soon be out of the plane (I hate long flights). All of a sudden, the engines powered up and we went straight up in as sharp an angle as I had ever been. As we left the are around SFO, the pilot said that there were too many low clouds around the runway and we had to flat back toward Davis and circle back. Uf ut really was an issue of low clouds or something else, I will never know, but I never want to repeat that experience again.

BART strike to continue another day.

For those who have endured a miserable commute this week because of the BART strike, heading to Fourth of July festivities around the Bay Area may be just as chaotic.

In San Francisco, about 200,000 people are expected at the northern waterfront to watch the fireworks display and the start of nearly three months of America's Cup racing. Across the bay, the Oakland Athletics are expecting near-sellouts for their home series against the Chicago Cubs.

Getting to those events, or any other event that normally involves mass transit, could be a challenge if the BART strike stretches to Thursday. Event planners are still encouraging revelers to come, but recommend they take other transit, carpool or at least check 511.org before heading to their destination Thursday.

"Obviously, the BART strike is going to throw a monkey wrench into all of it," said Troy Campbell, executive director of the Fisherman's Wharf Community Benefit District, where thousands typically watch the fireworks and live music on July Fourth. "I don't know how large the effect will be, but I definitely think it will affect a lot of people who need BART to get here from the East Bay."

CA: Yep, there will be a massive Bay Area public transportation disruption tomorrow.

BART unions and mediators walked out and Gov. Brown will not call a cooling off period. On top of that, AC Transit drivers appear ready to strike tomorrow as well. I got clearance to work from home but my productivity will be significantly hampered. I feel really bad for those who do not have the same luxury and do not have cars.

Union leaders walk out of BART negotiations as midnight deadline nears

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) —Leaders from two of San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit's largest unions walked out of negotiations with management Sunday night, making a strike all the more likely unless they can come to an agreement by midnight.

A BART strike means commuters must brace for potentially nightmarish journeys into work.

“While we do not have official word from the unions about a strike we must caution riders that a strike may commence after the end of regularly scheduled service today," said BART spokesman Rick Rice.

“We have a long way to go but we can’t get any closer if we aren’t at the table. We reached tentative agreements on 11 items today and we should use that momentum to reach a deal. Walking away doesn’t do any good," Rice said.
