Wage Theft Discovered Inside The Senate

If members of Congress want to learn more about wage theft, they should talk to some of the low-wage workers who serve them meals.

The Labor Department announced Tuesday that federal contractors had shorted 674 Senate cafeteria workers to the tune of $1 million. Two companies, Restaurant Associates and its subcontractor, Personnel Plus, violated the law by misclassifying workers into lower-paying positions and having them work off the clock, the agency said.

The Labor Department says it is considering whether to bar the employers from securing additional contracts going forward. David Weil, head of the agency’s Wage and Hour Division, said in a statement that low-wage restaurant workers “shouldn’t have to deal with paychecks that don’t accurately reflect their hard work and the wages to which they are legally entitled.”

In a statement sent by a spokesman, Restaurant Associates, which is owned by the food service conglomerate Compass Group, acknowledged that some employees weren’t properly classified in their positions, leading to them being paid below what the law required. The company attributed the mistakes to “administrative technicalities related to [workers’] evolving day-to-day work responsibilities.”

The company said it corrected the problem and has already compensated the workers.

Because the cafeteria work is funded with taxpayer dollars, the jobs are subject to prevailing wage laws, which guarantee minimum pay for particular positions. The laws are meant to discourage contractors from underbidding one another and bringing in cheap labor, thereby undercutting the local pay rates. In this case, the federal government determines the baseline pay for each position in the cafeteria, and contractors must abide by it.

‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Season Four Will Feature “Classic” Inhuman Characters

roduction is currently underway on the fourth season of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and it’s looking more & more like this will be the biggest season of the series yet. Speaking with iO9, series showrunners Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen discussed the future of the Marvel television series. While it’s clear that Robbie Reyes aka ‘Ghost Rider’ will play a big part in the season, expect Inhumans to play a significant part as well. With the movie being pushed back into Phase Four, this has allowed the series a bit more freedom as far as what they can use moving forward.

The showrunners then stated that this freedom would allow them the ability to use some of the “classic” Inhuman characters from the comics but they didn’t go into specifics as far as who we should expect to see. Whedon then went on to discuss the introduction of ‘Ghost Rider’ and being able to explain his presence in a way that audiences would believe. Don’t worry, he’s not going to be an Inhuman.

Grayson Freaks On Reporter Asking Him About His Ex-Wife's Abuse Allegations (VIDEO)

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) got into a tense confrontation with a Politico reporter who questioned him about domestic abuse allegations his ex-wife laid out in a report the site published Tuesday, threatening to have the journalist arrested.

As Grayson exited an event hosted by Politico at the Democratic National Convention, reporter Edward-Isaac Dovere approached Grayson to ask about his ex-wife’s allegations that he physically abused her for two decades of their 25-year marriage. Lolita Grayson provided police and medical records to Politico documenting four alleged instances of abuse; charges weren't filed against the congressman in any of those incidents. The congressman also stridently denied Lolita Grayson's allegations that he threatened to kill her and twice forced her to seek medical attention, according to the report.

Video captured by another Politico reporter showed the Florida Democrat repeatedly telling Dovere that he was keeping him from leaving the building.

“You’re getting in my way,” Grayson says in the video, placing his hand on Dovere’s shoulder as he moved through a doorway.

“You’re getting in my way,” Grayson repeats, again making physical contact with the reporter.

“I’m asking you a question,” Dovere insists.

“You’re assaulting a member of Congress,” Grayson replies. “You’re pushing me.”

Jiminy Cricket, MSNBC. Let them freaking vote!!!

I swear MSNBC spent all day trying to make a thing out of letting the delegates vote and not dragging Bernie in chains to make him nominate Hillary. The 2008 Convention was an odd case and the party will not crumble if it does not follow the same formula.
