PA-10: Editorial Board Eviscerates Perry for Endangering Safety of PA Children and Teachers

Teachers unions, families, and now a local editorial board are calling out Congressman Scott Perry for dangerously spreading misinformation about coronavirus – namely, that it is safe to open up schools in the fall, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Congressman Perry’s recklessness when it comes to endangering the health and well-being of children and teachers in the district demonstrates that he shouldn’t be the go-to voice for anything when South Central Pennsylvanians are concerned,” said DCCC Spokesperson Courtney Rice. “This isn’t the first time Perry has shown little regard for his district – from his callous comments that no one really lives paycheck-to-paycheck to his votes against those hardest hit by COVID-19, his recent downplaying of science should come as little surprise.”

NJ-02: NJ State Building & Construction Trades drops Van Drew, endorses Kennedy

The New Jersey State Building & Construction Trades Council has dropped their support of one congressman they endorsed in 2018, and have endorsed two House incumbents whom they opposed two years ago.

The powerful building trades organization is backing Democrat Amy Kennedy in the 2nd district They had supported Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) in 2018 when he ran as a Democrat, and had backed him in his past campaigns for the state legislature.

Van Drew switched parties late last year after refusing to back the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

Freshmen Democratic Reps. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) and Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) were endorsed by the building and construction trades council. In 2018, the group backed Republican incumbents Tom MacArthur (R-Toms River), who was ousted by Kim in the 3rd district, and Leonard Lance (R-Clinton Township), who was unseated by Malinowski in the 7th.

“I’ve worked hard alongside them to fight for better wages and conditions, for keeping jobs right here in New Jersey, and for getting more local work opportunities on the Joint Base,” Kim said. “We share a common commitment to support our veterans through efforts like the Helmets to Hardhats program, and I look forward to continuing this work together going forward.”

NY-24: John Katko Stands By Vote to Gut Health Care, Defends Tax Hike On New Yorkers

The Trump-Katko Tax Scam of 2017, which had a disproportionately negative impact on New York families, will continue to be a noteworthy issue in the race in New York’s 24th Congressional District this cycle. And according to the Auburn Citizen “nearly three years later, Katko stands by that vote.”

Katko was one of just four New York Republicans to vote for Trump’s tax law that offshores jobs and makes millionaires and billionaires even richer while punishing working New York families – which is why New York Republicans like Peter King opposed the law.

Additionally, the GOP planned to pay for their corporate tax cut by cutting Social Security and Medicare.

AZ-06: DCCC Statement on Schweikert Admitting to Eleven House Ethics Violations

Today, House Ethics Committee released their report on their years-long investigation of Rep. David Schweikert’s campaign finance violations. The committee unanimously found that Congressman David Schweikert violated House rules, the Code of Ethics for Government Service, and federal laws. Schweikert admitted to 11 rules violations and will pay a $50,000 fine.

In their release the committee specifically called out Schweikert for: “campaign finance violations and reporting errors by his authorized campaign committees; the misuse of his Members’ Representational Allowance for unofficial purposes; pressuring official staff to perform campaign work; and his lack of candor and due diligence during the investigation.”

Congressman Schweikert’s blatant corruption, self-enrichment, and total disregard for the law reveal a man without remorse, who is willing to betray his constituents and American taxpayers for his own gain. The $50,000 fine is a clear indictment of Schweikert’s illegal behavior and as such he has no place on any House committee, let alone the Ways and Means Committee. He must be stripped of all committee assignments immediately.

“The House Ethics Committee’s unanimous findings and the fine imposed on Schweikert are a black mark that will stay on his record until Arizonans summarily kick him out of office in November and instead elect the responsible and transparent Dr. Hiral Tipirneni.”

Reschenthaler (R-PA) Self-Quarantining After Contact With Gohmert

One member of the state’s Congressional delegation is now self-quarantining after coming into contact with a fellow congressman who tested positive for COVID-19.

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Allegheny) told KDKA on Wednesday that he will be self-quarantining at home for fourteen days after he was in close contact at the capitol with Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), who tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday morning. Reschenthaler said that he is “feeling fine” and will work from home, while he is self-quarantining.

Reschenthaler serves alongside Gohmert on the House Judiciary Committee and said he was with the Texas Congressman following a hearing on Tuesday.

The Allegheny County Republican isn’t the first member of the state’s congressional delegation to self-quarantine after coming into contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19.

Obama tells donors he fears voter suppression, Trump questioning election legitimacy: report

Former President Obama on Tuesday told donors ahead of the 2020 election that his top concerns include voter suppression and President Trump potentially casting doubt on the election’s legitimacy.

At a Tuesday fundraiser with actor George Clooney, Obama named the two potential issues when asked what keeps him up at night, The New York Times reported.

In a separate event with Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D), Obama warned that the president has cultivated a support base that “filters out any contradictory information.”

“It’s just glued to Fox News and Breitbart and [Rush] Limbaugh and just this conservative echo chamber — and so, they’re going to turn out to vote,” he said, according to the Times.

Dems pour record cash into battleground state parties

Once ignored, underfunded and often written off, Democratic state party organizations are harvesting record-setting cash heading into the 2020 election, reasserting their roles inside the Democratic infrastructure after suffering for years in competition with super PACs and campaigns.

Across 15 possible battleground states, nearly every Democratic state party group is hitting higher quarterly fundraising totals or holding more cash on hand in their federal accounts than they did at this point during the 2016 presidential campaign, and a majority of them did both, according to a POLITICO analysis of Federal Election Commission filings and in interviews with party officials. Many of these state parties — responsible for field operations and coordinating a ticket-wide campaign — are seeing three, four or five times the amount of cash they did before.

Those surges are happening in traditional swing states like Pennsylvania and Florida as well as emerging targets for Democrats like Texas and Arizona. The Arizona Democratic Party raised $4.6 million in the second quarter, a more than 300 percent increase over its haul at this point in 2016, while Texas is sitting on five times more cash than it had at this point in 2016. North Carolina banked more than doubled its 2016 totals, from $2.5 million to just under $6 million, and racked up its strong online fundraising numbers in June since late 2018. Wisconsin, a stand out among the states, brought in a record-breaking $10 million last quarter.

The influx of money is giving an organizing boost to Joe Biden, Senate Democrats and other candidates heading into November 2020. Presidential candidates typically spend the final months of an election anxiously shoveling money toward state parties to fund get-out-the-vote operations and other critical infrastructure, but Democrats are running ahead of schedule this year.

Meme group joins with Lincoln Project in new campaign against Trump

The group Meme 2020 is partnering with The Lincoln Project, a prominent Republican group opposing President Trump’s reelection, with a new campaign targeting young voters through popular Instagram accounts.

Meme 2020 made its first foray into politics earlier this year with a push backing Michael Bloomberg’s presidential campaign, but its latest project, which launched this week, is instead focusing on a broader voter mobilization effort.

“Meme 2020 is sort of laser focussed on sort of building up this new medium that has been kind of undeveloped in political advertising,” said Ryan Patrick Kelley, chief of staff of Meme 2020.

Partnering with The Lincoln Project, he said, seemed natural given the spotlight the anti-Trump GOP group has garnered in recent months. The Lincoln Project is run by Republicans opposed to Trump, including George Conway, the Washington, D.C., lawyer married to White House counselor Kellyanne Conway.
