Berkeley Law Dean returns to campus after resigning over sexual harassment.

Former UC Berkeley Law School Dean Sujit Choudhry, who resigned in the spring amid sexual harassment allegations, returned to campus last week after a six-month absence, drawing student ire and concerns about his presence and future role at the university.

Choudhry has stayed away from his office in Boalt Hall since March, after his suspension and resignation in the wake of a lawsuit filed by his former assistant.

At the time, UC President Janet Napolitano reportedly requested that Choudhry be barred from the campus for the rest of the term and as his case proceeds through a faculty investigation into possible code of conduct violations.

Whether Choudhry was officially barred or chose to say away was unclear. UC Berkeley officials would say only that university procedures “do not provide for automatic exclusion from campus of accused faculty while the process is pending.”

On Thursday, the interim law school dean, Melissa Murray, advised faculty, staff and students that the former dean would be back in his office this semester.

Chris Wallace Won’t Call Candidates On Their Lies During Last Presidential Debate

Chris Wallace says it won’t be his job to separate truth from fiction in his historic role as moderator of the final debate before the November election.

Wallace, who earlier this month became the first journalist from Fox News to be chosen to moderate a presidential debate , spoke to the network’s Howard Kurtz about the difficulties of the job and his aim to “ask smart questions” and “engage the two [candidates] in conversation.”

But when Kurtz asked how Wallace planned to negotiate a campaign fraught with falsehoods and unfounded accusations, Wallace’s answer was less than comforting.

“That’s not my job,” Wallace, who hosts Fox News Sunday, said. “I do not believe that it’s my job to be a truth squad. It’s up to the other person to catch them on that. I certainly am going to try to maintain some semblance of equal time if one of them is filibustering, I’m going to try to break in respectfully and give the other person a chance to talk.”

Chuck Todd: ‘It bothers me as an American' that FBI didn’t record Clinton interview

NBC’s Chuck Todd says it bothers him “as an American citizen" that the FBI did not record its interview with Hillary Clinton on the handling of her emails.

he FBI only took written notes of the July 2 interview with the former secretary of State, and did not record it or create a transcript.

"It bothers me as an American citizen," the usually-reserved Todd demonstratively declared Friday to a panel of guests on MSNBC's "Meet the Press Daily."

"It's insane. We're relying on notes on this!" he continued.

"The Trump campaign wants to show [Clinton] lied to the FBI. Maybe she did, maybe she didn't. We have no proof. And never will."

Is Rudy Giuliani Losing His Mind?

Anyone just tuning in must be wondering: What happened to “America’s mayor”? For millions of people outside New York, the lasting image of Giuliani is that of the man we all rooted for as he pushed his way through the streets of Lower Manhattan on September 11, 2001, and told us afterward, with almost heartbreaking gentleness, that “the casualties will be more than any of us can bear.” Giuliani that day went on television not only to urge calm, but to remind New Yorkers not to take out their grief on Muslims—“We should act bravely. We should act in a tolerant way”—and just days later held an interfaith prayer service in Yankee Stadium that brought Islamic clerics together with Christians and Jews. This season in political hell, Giuliani has seemed so addled, so much the campaign tool, alternately vicious and clownish in defense of The Donald, that at one point he even stuffed his most famed accomplishment down the memory hole, insisting of the Bush presidency, “Under those eight years, before Obama came along, we didn’t have any successful radical Islamic terrorist attack in the United States.”

It might seem like this summer has marked a sad break with that old Rudy, or proved him a sellout. But if you’ve followed Giuliani’s career, in fact it’s clear he swallowed the whole Trump persona many years ago—the race-baiting, the law-and-order pose, the incessant lying used to both steal credit and avoid responsibility. What we’re seeing this summer isn’t a crackup: It’s the inevitable, supernova explosion of what long ago became one of the most toxic and overrated political careers in our history. It’s tempting to count the 72-year-old Giuliani one more addition to the Island of Misfit Toys that Trump has gathered around him—another one of the political relics who, seeking to restore relevance, have found themselves denatured by the strange public power of Trump. But a better way to see it might be as a man seizing the star turn he never quite got—grabbing time in slow stretches of the campaign to stand on the national stage and play the role that was supposed to be his, exactly the way he thinks it should be played.

What lies at the heart of Trumpism, and Rudyism, is the same, nostalgic impulse that has driven reactionary Republican populism for a half-century now—“The shining city on the hill!” as Giuliani managed to splutter at the convention, just before, “Greatness!” It’s no coincidence that Trump and Giuliani both came of age in the New York of the 1960s and ’70s, the time when the dream seemed to die, during the nihilistic, wholesale destruction of our cities.

The iconic science fiction monster Godzilla makes landfall in the U.S. and Canada this October with the North American theatrical release of Shin Godzilla (aka Godzilla: Resurgence) from Toho Company, Ltd. Fans have been clamoring for news of the film’s theatrical dates ever since Funimation Films made its surprise acquisition announcement in July at the San Diego Comic-Con 2016. And today, the company revealed that Shin Godzilla will roar into theaters for a limited engagement on October 11 – 18. The movie will screen in more than 440 theaters across the U.S. and Canada. Tickets for Shin Godzilla will be available for pre-purchase on the official film website beginning on September 9.

“We are thrilled to bring ‘Shin Godzilla’ to theaters across North America this October,” said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and President of Funimation. “Toho established Godzilla as one of the most iconic monsters in science fiction history and we’re honored to now be a part of that history with the theatrical release of this new movie. Fans will not want to miss this limited theatrical event.”

Co-directed by Hideaki Anno (creator of “Evangelion”) and Shinji Higuchi (director of Toho’s 2015 Attack on Titan live action movies), Shin Godzilla is the 29th Godzilla film produced by Toho and represents a brand new chapter in the 62-year history of this celebrated movie monster. The film stars Hiroki Hasegawa and Satomi Ishihara – both also from the Attack on Titan live action movies – as well as Yutaka Takenouchi .

“Movie audiences can look forward to a great time watching ‘Shin Godzilla’ this October,” said Mike DuBoise , EVP and COO of Funimation. “A larger than life monster like Godzilla has to be experienced on the big screen. And we expect this movie to sellout in numerous theaters so we encourage fans to purchase tickets in advance.”

Latinos for Trump founder warns of ‘taco trucks on every corner’

A founder of the Latinos for Trump group on Thursday warned that without Donald Trump in the White House, there would be “taco trucks on every corner” in America.

“My culture is a very dominant culture,” the Mexican-born Marco Gutierrez said on MSNBC’s “All In With Chris Hayes.” “It is imposing and it’s causing problems. If you don’t do something about it, you’re going to have taco trucks on every corner.”

Joy Reid, who was guest-hosting Hayes’ show, cut him off, saying, “I don’t even know what that means, and I’m afraid to ask,” before going to New York state Sen. Adriano Espaillat, a Dominican, for a reaction.
“I’m offended,” Espaillat said.

Gutierrez defended himself, saying, “We have a lot of good things that we’re bringing to the United States, but we also have problems.”
