Supergirl creator developing a Black Lightning TV series

Supergirl and Arrow co-creator Greg Berlanti is reportedly developing a series following Black Lightning, one of DC Comics’ first major black superheroes. According to Deadline, Berlanti is working with The Game creator Mara Brock Akil and her husband to get the drama off the ground, and the trio are currently shopping the project to multiple networks.

Black Lightning has the chance to be DC’s highest profile black superhero series to date. Created in 1977 by writer Tony Isabella and artist Trevor Von Eeden, Black Lightning, otherwise known as Jefferson Pierce, is an educator and eventual member of the Justice League with the power to control electrical energy. In the proposed TV series, Pierce will have retired from superheroics, but after his daughter’s life is endangered by his city’s underworld, he willingly steps back into his old alter ego.

The news about Black Lightning comes just weeks before the debut of Marvel’s own black superhero series, Luke Cage, on Netflix. (Interesting wrinkle: Tony Isabella wrote for the Luke Cage comic series before creating Black Lightning.) However, Pierce is far from DC’s first headlining superhero of color. The comics company also aired Static Shock, and is producing the second season of the Vixen animated series for CW Seed. Regardless, it’s a good time to be a DC Comics fan.

Colin Kaepernick Takes The Field In Socks That Depict Cops As Pigs

Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers will play their final preseason game tonight in San Diego, and Kaep has already announced that he will not be standing for the Anthem. Ironically, tonight is also the Chargers' annual "Salute To The Military" night at Qualcomm Stadium, as if this meaningless pre-season game didn't have enough of a storyline already.

If people weren't happy about Kaep's decision to sit during the national anthem, they'll surely have something to say about the socks that he's been wearing at practices during the pre-season. As spotted at a practice earlier this Summer, Kaepernick's sock depict little pigs dressed as cops.

Trump's Florida Ground Game Lags as GOP Rides to His Rescue

How many of the 24 field offices that Team Trump said in early August they’d open this month in Florida are now up and running?
None yet, according to Republican officials in the state.

The Republican presidential nominee has one of his campaign's weakest ground games in his most crucial swing state, several political insiders and donors told Bloomberg Politics.

Now, some Republicans are worried it's getting too late to recover, with vote-by-mail ballots going out starting in late September and Democrats pledging a big push in early voting.

“It’s troubling,” said David Johnson, a GOP political consultant and a former executive director of the Republican Party of Florida. “We hear the same thing from county party leaders – ‘Where are they? Where are they?’ We remain hopeful.”

Karen Giorno, a senior Trump advisor who oversees Florida operations, said the promised 24 offices are coming. “We are going to be opening them shortly. The leases are being signed,” she said.

Giorno said the campaign is empowering GOP chairs in Florida’s 67 counties as “CEOs of their counties,” adapting Trump’s spirit of entrepreneurship for the grassroots community. Giorno cautioned political pundits and strategists not to judge Trump’s campaign against metrics of previous cycles and previous candidates’ strategies.

Republican National Committee officials told Bloomberg they’re on a hiring spree with a slew of office openings in the works nationwide. They have the approvals to bring on 400 new staffers, and to bring the number of field offices to just over 100, said Rick Gorka, a spokesman for the RNC.

2 Canadian Women Allegedly Busted in Australia with $22 Million in Cocaine While on Worldwide Dream

A dream vacation around the world turned upside-down for two Canadian women Monday after police in Australia arrested them and a Canadian man on drug smuggling charges, according to a release by the Australian authorities.

Authorities say approximately 95 kilograms of cocaine were allegedly found in the suitcases of passengers arriving to Sydney on a cruise ship. According to the Daily Telegraph, the value of the drugs was $30 million Australian dollars, which is about $22 million in U.S. dollars.

According to multiple outlets, including the Sydney Morning Herald, the arrested suspects were two young women, 23-year-old Melina Roberge and 28-year-old Isabelle Lagacé, and a 63-year-old man, Andre Tamine. All three were originally from Quebec, according to the Toronto Star.

The bust came on the 51st day of a 68-day cruise on the Sea Princess, reports the Sydney Morning Herald. The Star states authorities were prepared to search the ship when it arrived in Sydney after a joint investigation which included the Canadian Border Service Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
