Poetry seems to capture things best

I think often of the poets that I’ve read. I love TS Eliot and his work “the wasteland” and “the hollow men”.

And I love Yeats. I don’t think a day goes by that I don’t think of this particular poem.

These poems were written in times worse than these although I fear we are headed in a direction that will prove bloodier than even WWI and WWII.

Again this poem resonates with our times. Mere anarchy has been loosed upon our world.

All these works are about dissolution and decay.

The final line of The Hollow Men is memorable. This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but a whimper...

Democracy died in 2000. It went quietly and with little protest. Gore v Bush and it was all over. Now we are seeing what happens when a malignant narcissistic madman takes over in a country where the people have no power.

The knee will soon be on all of our necks.

Let's get him a plaque for The Resolute Desk...

Rather than “The Buck Stops Here” it will read “The Buck Stops Anywhere But Here”...

I want to know who funded this crap

Who paid for that fake flag with the orange fuckstick’s face on it?

Looks pretty expensive.

This is serious astroturfing here.

Media needs to stop acting like this is a large number of people and that this was a spontaneous set of protests.

Extreme minority

While the Trump liberation tweets are truly alarming and break completely new ground in terms of Executive malfeasance please note the tininess of these radical fascist nihilist "crowds".

Seems like this much ado about nothing.

If these fools did cross over into armed insurrection there are so few of them that any rebellion would be over almost instantly.

Trump's only hope now is to short circuit the election. He knows he can't win. Not enough of the crazies.

He has committed a very clear impeachable offense which is clearly covered under the Constitution. If the election happens he loses.

He's panicked and thrashing.

But he's occupying the presidency and his actions and words are going to be used to inflame the crazies and give him an excuse to impose martial law.

Things are going to get very weird, very fast.

Prescient

This catastrophe belongs to Trump. He is buying it with the thousands of dead his dismantling of the global pandemic infrastructure made possible.

No way he wrote this

This was authored by Stephen Miller I’d bet. But I’m sure the pus bag loved it and gleefully signed his name to it.

This is the norm there

Colombia is as close to a pure oligarchy as you can find anywhere. If you get sick and have money the medical care is excellent. If you don’t have money well...

I lived there almost 50 years ago and this was normal then. There was 0 safety net. Orphans roaming the streets whose parents had made the oldest leave the family when the newest child was born. Homeless and skilled in theft and begging.

Utterly dirty because there was nowhere to bathe. The older ones taking care of the younger ones—forming into feral family units. Some of those boys and girls ultimately joining FARC and, after I left, became the cartels.

Colombia is why I’m an unreserved liberal social democrat. This is what the world that Grover Norquist and Newt and the Koch brothers want to create. If you are born into the right family life is very, very good indeed. If you are one of the campesinos the best you can do is serve your masters and hope that they are kind and just—but have no expectations at all.

And if you are below the campesinos then you exist in one of the vast shanty towns and live and breed like cattle without running water or electricity and human waste mixed with animal waste runs down the unpaved paths in torrents when it rains.

Colombia can be so beautiful and so awful. In the time of pandemic there will be little mercy to spare for the peasants.
