Picaro's JournalEven the Supreme Court views the Constitution as just a piece of paper
As a country, were completely off the rails. The constitution mandates that Congress and only Congress has the power of the purse. It also is the only governmental body that can declare war. Well the whole thing about Congress declaring war went out the window decades ago.
But now money that was voted on to go to Defense spending is going to be re-purposed on the whim of the executive branch. That means the whole notion of constitutionality and following the constitution is affectively dead at this point.
The federal budget now is just a big slush fund that the executive branch can move around for whatever priorities they deem appropriate. We are no longer a republic governed by a set of rules.
We have slid into a dictatorship? Monarchy? Im not sure what this is. But I dont think that the country can be saved at this point.
Im close enough to the finish line that I can sit here and hope that they wont cancel Social Security or defund Medicare with an executive order. But my children are going to have to deal with this.
At some point this is going to get violent.
This one has been circulating for some time
A would be dictator
Trump crossed this line some time back. Hes said it before.
He believes that trying to hold him to account is treason because this shows that they are not personally loyal to him.
He craves the kind of power his idols have: Putin, Kim Il Jong, Bin Salmaneven Duterte.
For these views alone he merits removal from office.
Also reared Catholic
Im right there with Mr. CarlinI explicitly left the church at 13.
Have not been back except for weddings and funerals. I, of course, didnt take communion. Im an apostate not a barbarian.
Overpopulation
Every problem we have is caused by one thingas this piece saysthere are too damn many of us.
The world is several billion over its carrying capacity.
This means that deforestation, global warming, and general ecological destruction will continue.
The economic paradigm we operate underan economy where unbridled consumption is not only encouraged, but is necessary to forestall economic collapseis utterly unsustainable.
There will be war for what remainsas all beauty is despoiled and all morality is cast asidewhile we fight in the ruins.
Nothing is free
Nothing is free. Just remember that. And dont sign up for this crap.
I got nailed in the 90s for $800 worth of free golf clubs that of course were returnable until I read the fine print and realized that I had missed the return window.
Oh, and the clubs were complete shit. Didnt know that any golf club could be that bad.
The people running the scam ended up getting charged in federal court and going to jail.
But I didnt get my money back. No one did.
Since then I made a rule. If anything that is free requires me to input a credit card then its not free. And I dont don't do it.
Of course, Im drawn to this service or app or whatever it is...
Uh, your caps lock is on...
My post was in no way supporting Reagan. He was a good speaker. His speech writers, at times, put some nice words together.
Im fully aware that most of the disaster we are living through is due to Reagan successfully putting a genial face on cruel and damaging policy that has led to where we are today.
Thus, the final line, God curse his soul.
Regarding the Reagan quote
I am constantly struck by how old Trumps attitudes and ideas are...walls, tarriffs, Supply-side economics, misogyny, overt racism. Am I the only one that sees this?
Reagan got this one right. God curse his soul.
